>> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now wur "news 9 daybreak." erin: all right. good morning to you. you've made it to friday. thanks for joining us. i'm erin fehlau. sean: i'm sean mcdonald. we've been talking about it all week. the storm that is not coming to new hampshire. it is impacting travel. it is going to be a big deal. hayley: even as close as comments to the south of us in boston, it is going to be such a sharp cut off on who is going to get a good amount of snow. we're on the northern fringe of this. looks like southern communities from keene to salem and plaistow, portsmouth may get a dusting. that's looking less and less likely as we push forward here. almost a complete miss across the state. in the meantime the weather has been really nice, hasn't it? sunshine and temperatures getting in to the 20's. the winds have been a problem. we're in the teens right now across the state.

tolls down in to nashua. it looks great as you are making your way in massachusetts. i'm deb davidson. erin: several states plus the district of columbia are under a state of emergency as the powerful winter storm bears down on the mid atlantic. sean: a blizzard conditions are expected. the director of the national weather service says the storm could cause more than $1 billion in damage. we have a reporter in new york city this morning. the snow should start falling later today. is there good morning. the storm hasn't hit. there are penalty of major cancellations to report. especially in washington where millions of people have already begun to hunker down. this morning one last mad dash to prepare for a potentially historic blizzard. outside of a costco in virginia, lines to get

out as stores try to keep up with the demand. >> d.c. is really not ready for this kind of weather. reporter: the same scene as the trader joe's super market forced to limit customers to ten at a time. shelves are water are now virtually empty. snow shovels are disappearing just as fast. also preparing the federal government which announced it would be closing at noon today ahead of the epic winter storm. d.c.'s public transportation will be closing later today too. >> we're seeing everything line up for a major storm system affecting the eastern third of the country and affecting east 50 million people. reporter: at reagan international the deicers on standby as they offer passengers waivers to rebook their flights. there's no doubt washington will be hit the hardest with more than two feet of snow expected to fall during

a state of emergency has already been declared there. five states have also fold suit. abc news, new york. erin: even though the storm isn't going to hit new hampshire, it is already causing problems for people that are traveling. this is a live look at the departure board at manchester. you can see there are a number of flights that have been canceled. ray brewer is live at airport for us this morning. ray: if your plans call for you to travel, especially if you are heading south, whether it is by car, by train, by plane, by bus, you might have to rethink those plans. especially when it comes to the airlines. thousands of flights have been canceled. many more expected other the next couple of days. that's having a big impact here on operations at the manchester boston regional airport. even though condition here are fine other major hubs will likely be all but shut down. now we caught up with

getting going. this thing has blossomed in to a huge storm. you see the line of thunderstorms extending across the panhandle there of texas getting in to atlanta, georgia, and all of the snow and ice on the northern edge of the system. it's been a battle of high pressure over us and then this storm system approaching. high pressure is going to wind out the battle. that's going to help keep the storm to the south of us. it is going to be a big one. blizzard warnings have been posted for washington, d.c. winter storm warnings in the pink color. even extending in to new york. it is going to accumulate. the snow is going to be fluffy. upwards of two feet possible up to a foot possible in new york city. here's the timing of it all. you can see up in new hampshire this afternoon we're bright and sunny. just a few passing clouds. the snow just arriving in washington, d.c. this evening. then by early tomorrow morning in knock and it creeps closer to boston about midday tomorrow

24-year-old keith hutchins. he is a suspect in a yesterday afternoon on bay road. the 24-year-old victim was stabbed in the neck and abdomen. his injuries are not life threatening. sean: two new hampshire men are among four men accused of holding a family at gun point in lyman, maine. xavier watson and vincent casazza have been charged. the home invasion happened last friday. five victims reported to four then entered the home and stole several items, including guns, money, and medical marijuana. watson is accused of sexually assaulting one of the victims. the victims were able to identify the suspects when they removed their masks while in the home. erin: is search is underway for two people wanted in connection with a beating and robbery in somersworth. they are looking for joel leary and another man who massachusetts not been identified.

police say the victim responded to an online ad to meet a woman. he went to an apartment where smart was waiting for him. soon afterward dorr, leary, and a third man attacked and robbed the victim, leaving him with facial injuries. there may be other victim who's have chosen ore main quiet. >> probably an embarrassment issue and things like that. we are asking if anybody has been involved and they've been a victim of this type of thing in the seacoast to please give us a call. especially if they recognize any of these individuals. erin: they claim they have evidence that dorr indicated that someone posting ads online and robbing were things they did on a regular basis to support themselves. sean: the wife of a franklin man convicted of human trafficking has entered a guilty plea. julie shine entered a plea. she will serve 11 to 30 years in prison. her husband tried to sell the 14-year-old
