sean: now on "daybreak," flaming burned an historic home to the ground this weekend. now neighbors say there's a hole in their community. kevin: liker breeze with sunshine around. we'll talk about the couple of systems we're tracking during the week ahead. erin: the storms moved out. several states are still digging out from a lot of snow. it could be days before air travel is back to normal, even here in new hampshire. >> it is tipped in the air. it is intercepted. sean: the patriots were that close to overtime. their season is over this morning after

manning and the broncos. >> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now wmur "news 9 daybreak." erin: that was a tough game. rough one for the patriots. especially tom brady. sean: he took a beating. we need to go back and replay the game. can we do that? erin: i'd like a do over. do they have a mulligan? kevin: that was a cher thing. turn back time. i don't know if we can do that. it would be interesting if we could. we start with partly cloudy skies. temperatures in the teen and 20's. not really a chilly start. winds on top of mt. washington only around 20 mile an hour. that means a fairly light breeze for us today around five to ten miles an hour. with highs from the upper 20's to mid 30's, it is going to feel good through the afternoon. it looks like warmer temperatures make their way in tomorrow. a couple of systems watched through the week.

the granite state. we're joined live by deb davidson. good morning. deb: good morning. we're beginning to see some slow-moving volume right around exit ten. that should continue to move through the area. traffic will ease up. otherwise that we're not seeing any major delays through the state of new hampshire. 101 eastbound is a good ride at the time from bedford through manchester and making your way out to the seacoast. 95 is up to seethe speed through the construction zone between exit two and one. do stay to the right to avoid any delays through there. 93 south is already a tough ride from exit 45 down to exit 41 through andover. this report is brought to you by dunkin' donuts. from the wzid traffic network, i'm deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. erin: investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a massive weekend fire in new castle. neighbors say the fire

their community. sean: crews spent much of the day yesterday checking for hot spots. ray brewer to explain the loss. ray: good morning. the flames burned for hours at the multi-family home in new castle saturday night. by the time the flames were out, nothing left but a pile of rubble. everyone inside the home got out safely. they lost everything. when firefighters arrived, the flames were shooting out the windows and through the roof. many in the community feeling the lost as well because of the historic significance of the building. the house dates back to the 1800's. according to neighbors a well known local painter lived and worked there. >> it was just devastating. i think it is the most important house in new castle from an artistic and historical perspective. it is really devastating and sad to see that. of course, everyone is out safe. that's a good thing. i know that they lost everything. ray: the fire chief wasn't available yesterday to comment

there's no word yet on how it may have started. we are told though at least one family plans to live in a hotel for the next week. in the studio, ray brewer, wmur news 9. sean: the fire chief says smoke detectors likely kept a bedroom fire from turning very serious. crews were able to contain the flames to a bedroom and say the fire was caused by improper disposal of smoking materials. all three people inside were able to get out safely. one firefighter was treated for a knee injury. erin: right now concord police are looking for the robber who stabbed a convenience store clerk. police say the man in these surveillance pictures entered the concord mart on north main street about 2:30, pulled a knife, and of coursed the clerk if he wanted to die. when the robber started grabbing money from the register, the clerk got a stick and started fighting back. during the struggle, the clerk suffered a cut to his hand. the suspect is described as a white man in his

air. police are looking for the man in westchesterfield that pulled a gun and robbed a store. he grabbed some money and man toward red road. a canine was able to track the suspect. the robber is described 5'2" and thin. state police say a man was driving drunk after leading police on a high speed chase at nearly 130 miles per hour. kenneth coogan lost control after getting off exit nine, went airborne, and came to rest over an embankment. injuries. sean: a massive clean up effort continues to the south. a powerful storm dropped two feet or more of snow. it could be days before travel is back to normal from this.

modified schedule. air travel is still a mess as you can see by the number of canceled flights of a lot of them with stranded. aftermath this morning. >> this weekend's storm was one for the record books. nearly two feet of snow washington, d.c. it was the biggest storm ever in baltimore at 29.2 inches. in new york central park a new 24-hour record with 26.8 inches of snow. it grounded almost all forms of travel. drivers on a interstate were stranded for hours creating sunday mass. blocks of ice floated down flooded streets. the snow building continue outlies throughout the weekend. in virginia and up and down the coast the

snow too much for area roofs. even the ambulance was stuck. this morning the east coast will be digging out. >> a record amount of snow must be removed. when i say removed, that doesn't mean we can just push it out of the street. it has to be lifted and taken away. reporter: for many there's one more snow day ahead. if you are wondering, the snow jackpot winner seems to be glen gary, west virginia with 42 inches reported. air traffic is going to continue to be snarled. remember airlines have to make up for the 14,000 flights that were canceled this weekend. in washington, lana zak for abc news. sean: and the clean up did turn deadly in boston. a man was struck by a neighborhood yesterday. a shovel was found a few feet away. the victim's name has the driver is cooperating.

they are looking in to weather the sun and glare may have been a factor. erin: a hampstead police officer has lost his battle with cancer. officer matthew moore passed away on saturday. he joined the department in 2009 after working as an officer in pelham and sanddown. he was a marine corps vet and served in iraq. he was 38. he's survived by his wife and two children. public calling hours are on thursday from 4:00 to 8:00. sean: even though the primary is two weeks from tomorrow, it is a quiet day on the campaign trail here in new hampshire. new jersey governor has stopped plans in greenland, merrimack, and hooksett. "the boston globe" is throwing its support behind hillary clinton. they added she's more conditioned, grounded,

erin: monday morning, january 25th. temperatures in the low to mid 20's. we're looking at partly skies. lighter breeze today. temperatures in the mid 30's. we'll look at the temperatures back up near 40 starting tomorrow coming up. sean: the cold weather has arrived here in new hampshire. the ice castles are back in lincoln. night. this year's design featured water falls, a maze, a throne, and one of the longest ice slides in the world. it is one of three ice castles in america and acre. >> we just opened. it was a slow start to the winter. it was very, very warm. we have a great team. once it was cold we were fast. now we're open and we're as big as good as we've erin: he's very chill.

open until mid march. the weather. that looks like the ice chandelier. sean: very pretty. winter enthusiast are getting in on the activity that's getting more and more popular. it is called fat tire bike racing. they have larger, wider tires that make them easier to ride on the snow, providing a different way to enjoy the outdoors in winter. they are best on groomed trails. new hampshire has a fat bike series as well. they started their season last week. they are under inflated to ride on mud, sand, and snow. they are great fun. erin: now we need to have a race around the beach. sean: we could do it. for sure. erin: 6:14. coming up, hundreds of movie theaters were empty because of the storm. sean: lobster is a huge part of the economy.

erin: it is a bit of a slow weekend at the box office. not because of the movies, but so many movie theaters were closed because of the snowstorm. "the revenant" took the top spot followed by "star wars: the force awakens." several places were closed for one day if not two in washington, d.c. taking a big bite out of hollywood. changes could be coming to the lobster fishing licenses. the catch has been huge. there's a long waiting list of people trying to get in on the action. now there's a proposal with a new license with limited number of traps.

lobster men get on the water faster. sean: speaking of the ocean, a guest at a resort in hawaii lifetime this weekend. check out the scene as a humpback whale breeches off of the coast. seat. they wanted to see this. okay, as long as you are breeching the other way, not toward me. that could do some damage. erin: i bet they wish they had their water proof cameras. if anyone is going to believe that story. kevin: the waves are always high in ohio. -- hawaii. i didn't say how. we start off with a nice start. partly cloudy to mostly clear skies. quite a few more clouds this morning. it should be a nice day. temperatures in to the afternoon will be making their way back in to the 30's. low to mid 30's. with a light wind, that's going to feel good.

that are in the mid 30's likely get up in to the lower half of the 40's tomorrow with the southerly and southwesterly breeze. we're in a situation now where we have the weak disturbances gliding across the northern tier. they are fairly fast moving. we have two such systems to track this weekend. one that is located just off shore of the east coast by the time we get toward friday morning that we're watching on the maps to see if there's any trends to try to get that closer to the shoreline and more direct effects for us by the time we get toward friday. as of right now, things are quiet. temperatures from the teens to lower range of the 20's. temperatures this morning running a solid 20 degrees warmer than we were yesterday at this time in the north country and five to ten degrees milder than yesterday in southern new hampshire. a little bit of a flow today. five to ten miles an hour continuing to go. you'll notice the wind speeds on light as well. that means a light wind kind of day. with clouds giving way to partial sunshine up

areas. in to the afternoon. it is about four or five degrees warmer than the average. still running four and a half degrees warmer than normal for the month of january. we're looking at partly cloudy skies. starting with sunshine tomorrow. clouds will start moving in during the day. just a couple of sprinkles is a possibility. all the way southerly and southwesterly winds push temperatures up. we'll be in the 30's to near 40 degrees on early. a breeze will pick up during the afternoon. the breeze brings in the cooler air. temperatures will slip back. all eyes on the system that will be moving of the united states. it will be located off morning. most of the maps right now keep that far enough away. maps may trend closer to the shoreline. it is a stay tuned friday's forecast is

we are beginning to see some building, traffic continues to move well. 293 is also a bit busy through the mill yard. just a minor tap of the breaks through the lane shifts between exit five and the everett turnpike. if your travel plans are taking you in to massachusetts, at this time we're seeing some exceptionally heavy volume on 93 south through andover, then again from woburn to boston. i'm deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. erin: thank you. the season has come to an end after they lost to the denver broncos in the afc championship game. sean: there were all kinds of missed opportunities, particularly in the fourth quarter. peyton manning played well in what may have been his final game. he through a pair of touchdown passes, including one from 21 yards out that gave denver a 7-0 lead after the opening drive.

sparked a fire that destroyed a home in new castle. erin: the fire broke out in a home on portsmouth avenue. neighbors say the house was an historic landmark. ray brewer live in the studio to tell us what neighbors are saying about the fire. ray: they are telling us the families that live in the multi-family home lost everything they own on saturday night. phyllis lives across the street from the house that caught fire. she described the scene as the home went up in flames. >> i've never seen anything like it. it was ferocious fire. sparks were flies. the flames were just shooting out of the roof, the windows. outside safely. the loss is being felt not just by the people who lived there but by the whole community. edmond tarbell lived and worked in the house. >> it was devastating. i think it is the most

was hit from behind. gelinas was rushed to the hospital where he later died. the driver, 28-year-old paul larkin of east bridgewater, massachusetts was arrested on a charge offing aggravated dui. >> whether you are coming from out of state or local and want to go out to dinner. we ask people to be careful and responsible. >> it can happen. it can happen anywhere. when you are walking down the street. you have to be careful. erin: larkin is free on bail and due in court next month. sean: right now a boil water order is in effect for the town of lisbon. they are advising people to boil their water for at least two minutes before drinking it. the order comes after e. coli was found in a testing sample from the town's water system. the issue has been addressed. they are waiting for more test results before lifting the order which could happen by wednesday. erin: fish and game along with

a crash. authorities say a car and pickup truck collided on the ice early yesterday morning. both vehicle were badly damaged. the driver of the car were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. anyone who may have witnessed that accident is urged to contact fish and game. sean: a plan to build a new back county hut is sparking some debate. the appalachian mountain club has a hut proposal less than two miles to the woods. it would be close enough to the main road so that people who do not get in to the mountains can experience more easily. some hikers say the area is too crowded. that debate continues. erin: coming up, a bizarre end to a police chase in california. two men had to call 911 after they fled from police in the middle of a snowstorm. sean: you often feel under the weather during the winter months? you may be allergic to the cold. kevin: we continue to watch a

the mid 30's. for the southern half of the state. up north clouds giving way to sun. two systems that we're week ahead. the details on that and which days are above 40 degrees coming up. sean: this is what it looked like to the south. that's the white house. out. 30 deaths have been blamed on the storm which dump more than two feet in parts. nikole killion was in the middle of it all. we have an update live. things still aren't back to normal yet; right? nikole: not yet. the nation's capitol remains shut down. this will be a multi-day clean up effort. now the biggest challenge right now are the roads. of course they are pretty clear around here. it is the secondary roads that are very problematic. some of them haven't been touched. now because of that and the frigid temperatures, many area dismals are closed. so is the federal

house even postponing it to vote in congress until next week. keep in mind other parts of the country aren't getting back on track. slowly but surely in new york city, train service is resuming there later this morning for the commute. also in pennsylvania all of those folks who got stuck on the turnpike over the weekend are finally free and back home. one thing not back to no, ma'am -- normal yet is air travel. here in d.c. both of the airports are re-opening. hopefully that eases some of the backlog. sean: i know there's some debate. how much snow did washington, d.c. get? nikole: just under 18 inches. some parts of the city got more. you can see the snow bank here which is pretty tall. probably if i stick my foot all the way down

some parts got 20 inches or more. inches. i'm here on the outskirts of the city. not clear why we have so many disparities. apparently during the storm the weather measuring device that they used to measure all of the inches somehow got lost. happened. whether observers at one of the airport claims the readings are still accurate. they stand by them in spite of the conditions. sean: maybe it is buried in the snow. we'll have to find it. >> when all else fails, use a yardstick. erin: does that work when you have 27 inches? a chase in california turned in to a less cue mission. the chase started on friday when an officer tried to pull over a car for swerving. the two men inside jumped out and took off running with winter storm in full force.

with murder, attempted murder, and kidnapping. they are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to their capture. turning now to sports, the celtics played the 76ers in philadelphia. they had no problem beating the nba's worst team. marcus smart buried the three pointer to put the celtics up 43-26. they kept the momentum going throughout the game. the celtics play the washington wizards tonight. video. a skier took a nasty fall. 1,000 feet down a mountain as she tumbled out of control, she narrowly missed some jagged rocks. the skier sat up after and they say she's okay. she only just broke a couple of fingers after that huge fall. 1,000 feet. wow. she's very lucky. sean: i'm sure he's going to see the video later.

a surprise after the officer showed up fgr a noise complaint. someone said they were playing basketball too loudly. instead of reprimanding them, he jumped in. the next time he came to the neighborhood -- recognize that guy? he brought shaquille o'neal with him. he's pretty good at basketball. he has some reach too. that is some backup right there. if you tend to get headaches, sneeze a lot, or have watery eyes, you may be alargic to the cold. >> erin: it is most common in young adults. they may experience redness, itching, swelling, and in severe
