sean: now on "daybreak," it is make or break time for many presidential hopefuls. the iowa caucuses are today. the first chance for voters to weigh in and start picking the nominees. erin: many candidates are dividing the attention with a focus on new hampshire as well. several are spending the day here hoping to pick up key support before the primary next week. kevin: a lot of areas in the 50's. how long it can last with future cast ahead. sean: the zika virus is quickly becoming a major concern. not only for people who live in affected parts of the world, travel plans are changing as well. >> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now wmur "news 9 daybreak." erin: good monday morning to you. thanks for joining us today on the first day of february. i'm erin fehlau. sean: i'm sean mcdonald. the day before ground

yesterday felt like late march or april. back. we're going to hover on thursdays. we start off with quite a few clouds making state. you notice a couple of light showers back to the west. the front will bring us the chance of a shower this morning. the winds pick up in to the afternoon out of the west with skies clearing to partial sunshine. it eventually sets up temperatures by later on today working their way up in to the 40's and 50's. we'll have much more on that forecast coming up in just a bit. let's look at your monday morning ride here in the granite state. we're joined live by deb davidson. good monday morning, deb. deb: good monday morning. no major problems. all roads are moving well. interstate 89 looks great from concord to the upper valley. on the southbound side of 89 we're not seeing any problems at the bow junction.

erin: some of the hopefuls are state. commitment coverage with that part of the story. reporter: even as voters gather to select their choices, john kasich, jeb bush, and chris christie, are meeting with voters here in new hampshire highlighting the importance of the granite state. even for the candidates who aren't here themselves, the volunteers aren't taking a break, spending as much time as possible making phone calls and trying to reach as many voters as they can between now and next tuesday. john kasich spent the weekend in new hampshire as he closes in on 100 town halls in the state. kasich promising to lower tax rates, reduce spending, and address climate change. one-time candidate, lindsey graham was here saying the former florida governor is best prepared for the white house and has plans that can be accomplished, unlike donald trump.

even any smoke. police would like to hear from anyone who has information about what may have happened. a snowmobilers is safe after spending the night alone in the woods. a 74-year-old left saturday morning and maine. he nerve returned. another snowmobilers found him sunday morning. fish and game say the man got stuck after getting lost and slept on a bed of branches on the snow. erin: two people are due in court after police found a one-pot meth lab in lebanon. they went to a condo on wolf road after getting a tip that the bank robbery suspect out of north carolina was staying there. police arrested 29-year-old jamie smith and also found 28-year-old samantha renehan who was wanted in vermont for failing to appear in court. when officers searched the home, they found evidence of meth, including chemicals that had been flushed down the toilet. a massachusetts man is accused of driving so fast on interstate 93 in ashland that the wind caused the state police troopers cruiser to shake. troopers say they

andrew tham at 116 miles per hour. he is now charged with reckless operation. sean: the zika virus continues to spread. there are growing concerns surrounding the olympics in brazil and whether athletes and fans will travel. at least three dozen americans have been diagnosed with the mosquito-borne virus. the biggest risk is to pregnant women. that's forcing some people to change travel plans. a family from londonderry was scheduled to visit st. thomas. they canceled the trip. >> my doctor advised me she would tell us not to go on the trip if the zika virus came too close to the area or in the area. sean: it is important to know that the type of mosquitoes that transit the zika virus do not live in new hampshire. the state is preparing to help anyone who gets infected somewhere else. erin: still ahead, getting exercise while easing the stress at work. it is a growing trend

that emergency dispatch centers across the country. that's exercise equipment at the dispatchers desks. sean: in south burlington, verse, two desks have been outfitted. that allows dispatchers to get some exercise while answering calls. it will also help them stay calm during what can be stressful ten-hour shifts. >> mainly just used to dump the adrenaline. we get hyped up. the officers are out on the road. they get hyped up as well. they have ways to dump it. they can get out of their cruiser. go get lunch or something. we're kind of confined to the space. any outlet for a dump -- for dumping that adrenaline is helpful. sean: the equipment will also track calories burned, miles covers, and the number of steps taken. erin: the black ice pond hockey tournament in concord is over. the competition looked different than in years past. temperatures well above freezing, the competition had to move inside.

prices for farmers in california have dropped off. last summer they could get $5 a pound. now the same is fetching $3. that's higher than the average for the last decade. lower prices have helped sales pick up. erin: general motors is kicking the efforts to self-driving cars. they have a team that will start working today. the goal is to make gm the leader in self-driving technology even though several other companies are working on similar projects. it seems that pluto is holding on to more water than scientists thought. according to data gathered by the new horizon spacecraft, the dwarf planet is coated with a large amount of ice, including ice mountains and ice volcanos. pictures also show a blue ring around pluto's atmosphere. it is caused by sunlight

temperatures everywhere across the state are above the freezing mark early this morning. there will be the risk of a passing rain shower today along the front. behind it will be a westerly breeze. notice the temperatures early this morning. they are running a solid 10 degrees in most locations higher than the normal highs. it will only head up from there. 34 on top of mt. washington. wind direction will be out of the southwest and out of the west. you'll notice the wind pick up out of the west in to the afternoon. that will push the milder air in for one those are the spots that tend to hang on until the wind picks up. it may be a stubborn locations. still you are starting off in the 30's. in to partial sunshine for the afternoon. then clearing skies

we drop back in to the 20's to lower range of the 30's. concerned, a good deal of sunshine. lighter breeze. temperatures mid 30's to mid 40's. tomorrow evening. it sets up the chance of a little bit of an initial wintry mix in western and northern areas early wednesday. otherwise 95% of what we see on wednesday will be in the form of rain. it will be heavy at times in to the afternoon before letting wednesday evening. then the cooler air starts to come back in slowly but surely mid 30's to mid 40's on thursday with sunshine and then back in to the 30's for highs starting on friday. high temperatures today again reaching up in to the 50's. record highs in the 60's. we're not going to get there. we'll be within shouting distance. we'll drop back in to the 20's to lower 30's later on tonight with mostly clear skies and cooler conditions across the area. your extended forecast shows temperatures back in to the low to mid 40's tomorrow and back

sean: you can see more of the one-on-one interviews by heading to the web site. erin: a new poll is showing where the candidates stand in new hampshire. the poll released yesterday shows bernie sanders with a big lead over hillary clinton. 57% of likely democratic voters say they would vote for sanders. 34% said they would vote for clinton. donald trump remains the front runner for 34% saying they would vote for him. ted cruz came in second with 12% followed by marco rubio, john kasich, and chris christie. sean: once the caucuses are over, the candidates will turn their focus back. some of them are here trying to drum up support ahead of the primary. ray brewer live in the studio with the latest from the campaign trail. good morning. ray: good morning. even though most of the candidates were not in new hampshire, they were campaigning and making phonals and trying to

modell's sports goods and peer one imports after workers reported smelling gas. firefighters found above average levels of carbon monoxide and evacuated them for about an hour to ventilate. officials believe the demolition crew at former michael's location was not properly exhausting their power equipment causing diesel and carbon monoxide so leak in. sean: a chair lift accident sent two people to the hospital on wednesday. a pair of chairs collided leaving two people trapped. crews were able to recipe them and get them down the mountain. five other people had to be helped off of the lift. the fire department said not to operate the lift until it can be inspected by the state. erin: a public hearing in concord on a proposal to launch the bobcat season. the fish and game is

fernando esquales. how do you compare? >> they are common. they have commonty. voters in iowa and new hampshire really take their responsibilities of meeting the candidates and questioning them very seriously. at the same time, both states seem to have a trend in which large chunks of the electorate moment. even though the polls show bernie sanders well ahead in new hampshire and hillary hillary clinton behind, we won't know until the last minute. some of the polls that's done at the end tends to be directally correct. it will have some surprises. there's a dynamic situation here. what happens in iowa? who comes out there looking like a winner? not necessarily winning, but looking like a winner. who comes out looking hopeless and helpless trying to make some sort of reason and logical argument for why they

sunshine for the afternoon. with clearing skies tonight, a lot of areas dropping down in to the 20's as we only see temperatures tomorrow getting back from the mid 30's to mid 40's. that's still 10 degrees above the average for this time of year. from there, clouds will start increasing later tomorrow evening and eventually the next system arrives early on wednesday morning. if it is early enough, then we're talking just after sunrise. we could have a wintry mix or even some light snow in the north country or in a few western areas. i think most of what we see out of the system on wednesday is going to make for a pretty wet wednesday in the way of rainfall before pulling away. that will get us back to fair skies on thursday. temperatures much like tomorrow behind today's system will be from the mid 30's to mid 40's. truly starting to drop back with the northerly flow by friday. high temperatures in the upper 20's to mid 30's. much closer to where we should be. that holds in to next weekend. temperatures today in the 30's to near 40.

first in the nation primary next week instead of stopping in iowa, jeb bush, chris christie, and john kasich will be campaigning here instead. sean: achier lift accident sent two people to the hospital. a pair of ski lift chairs collided. they told granite gorge not to operate the lift until it can be inspected. erin: a man is accused of driving so fast the wind caused the parked cruiser to shake. they clocked 19-year-old andrew tham at 116 miles per hour. kevin: a little bit of sunshine. a gorgeous sunrise this morning. we have a front from the west. could be a shower between now and lunchtime. another mild afternoon. 40's and 50's with a breeze out of the west. and as you'll notice through thursday, we'll remain mild until we ebb back closer to the averaging by the end of the week.
