on the democratic side hillary clinton was declared the winner of the iowa caucuses in a tight race with bernie sanders. the vermont senator holding a rally in claremont right now, and that's where we find wmur's mike cronin. mike? reporter: senator bernie sanders will be taking the stage here in a few moments and it is a packed house. this will be senator sanders' second appearance in new hampshire since he narrowly lost to hillary clinton in iowa. this is video from his first stop at the colonial theater in keene. sanders briefly addressed the results of the iowa caucuses at the start of his speech. but then went right into talking address as president. he had a similar tone as previous rallies as sanders attacked wall street, talked about raising the minimum wage and making public colleges and universities tuition-free. but here's what he had to say about iowa.

political organization in this country. last night we came back from a 50-point deficit in the polls. [cheers and applause] reporter: in what has become a slogan in his campaign, sanders said that a political revolution began last night not just in iowa and new hampshire but across the country. we'll have more coverage later tonight on wmur. mike cronin, wmur news 9. tom: thank you. sanders' opponent is tonight also in new hampshire, hillary clinton will hold a town hall in hampton tonight. and has spent the day refocusing on the granite state, trying to energize supporters and undecided voters alike. wmur political director josh mcelveen spoke to her one on one about her approach. josh: the primary is near with scenes like this one inside of market basket in manchester.

the one earlier in nashua where hillary clinton also received a special introduction from a familiar face. >> i urge you to send a clear message to america and support the best change maker i ever met, hillary rodham clinton. >> i am so thrilled that i'm coming to new hampshire after winning iowa! [cheers and applause] reporter: it was a razor thin victory in iowa, though shed apits an important one. >> to be able to now come to the first in the nation primary with that behind me and knowing i'm going onto nevada, south carolina, states after that. reporter: trailing sanders badly in the polls, clinton chalks it up to being in the vermont senator's back yard. but e she also had had praise for the new hampshire senate delegation for working together to combat the heroin and opioid crisis. >> that's when i find when i say let's find common ground wherever we can. we need to start acting like

reporter: over the next eight days clinton says she'll spent the bulk of her time in new hampshire, the state that has also placed clinton in ton expected role of underdog. josh mcelveen, wmur news 9. jennifer: now to the other side of the aisle tonight, republican ted cruz was also campaigning in the granite state, riding the wave out of iowa, where he beat donald trump. wmur's amy coveno live tonight with why senator cruz will need to refocus now that he's vying for a win here in new hampshire. reporter: in iowa, cruz did very well with the evangelical voting block. but in more secular new hampshire, the approach will have to be different. palpable energy and not enough seats at the light crossing church tuesday. the junior senator from texas asked the crowd to help him win by bringing in 10 extra votes apiece and by praying for him. senator cruz hit rubio and trump on immigration, citing his own 36 word amendment as the clear remedy to illegal immigration.

prevent anyone who comes to the u.s. legally from becoming a u.s. citizen. cruz also took swipes at president obama, vowing to dismantle obamacare and isis. >> we will have a commander in chief who stand up and says to the world we will defeat radical islamic terrorism. reporter: this was the senator's only stop in new hampshire today. he's in south carolina right now for a rally this evening. senator cruz has five scheduled events in new hampshire wednesday starting with a town hall in henniker. tom: right now we're about an hour away from donald trump's first campaign stop after iowa. the republican frontrunner in new hampshire and will be holding that rally soon. adam sexton joins us live from hampshire mills. reporter: there's always a bit a biz around these donald trump events because the crowds are so enormous typically.

notch, you can sense in the atmosphere, you've got ann coulter doing a radio show. the atmosphere is definitely the final week of the new hampshire primary, it's turning into make or break in new hampshire for donald trump. he was a big lead in the polls but now after finishing second in iowa this is kind of a situation where he needs to deliver on what those polls have been saying this entire time. today he's also going to be picking up the endorsement of massachusetts senator scott brown, former massachusetts senator, that is, and former new hampshire. they'll do a joint press conference together in about 45 minutes. we'll bring you the vts from this event on wmur.com with a full wrapup at 11:00. jennifer: right now a crowded exeter is awaiting marco rubio. the candidate will hold a town hall meeting there a few minutes from now. he made a lunch time stop at the puritan restaurant in manchester to greet voters there this afternoon. he says this is a pivotal

can't afford to lose. today he described himself as the anti-establishment candidate. >> i'm not the establishment candidate. i've had $40 million of establishment money spent attacking me, more than every other candidate come pined. so i got to the u.s. senate running against the establishment, i've had to run for president against an establishment that thought i needed to wait my turn in line. reporter: rubio also shrugged off a comment by governor christie describing him as, quote, the boy in the bubble. christie accused rubio of always offering canned and rehearsed answers to questions. tom: onto the governors, chris christie, jeb bush, john kasich all still in the state today, arriving early yesterday before the votes were counted in iowa. kasich says what he says is his 91st town hall meeting this afternoon in claremont where he said he knows the importance of a very strong showing in new hampshire. bush was in the western part of the state where he talked about how voters here are strong and independent. and christie was in bedford this
