jennifer: and i'm jennifer vaughn. the winner of the iowa caucuses remains here in new hampshire as he tries to go two for two in the early contest states. wmur political director josh mcelveen kicks off our campaign coverage tonight. josh: it wasn't that long ago that ted cruz was seen as donald trump's closest ally in the republican field, even fueling chatter of a trump-cruz ticket down the road. after the iowa caucuses that kinship appears to be gone now. but neither is a fan of the media. >> one of the problems in the global warming debate is far too much of the debate is driven by politics and political agendas. reporter: and that can be blamed partly on the media, he says. >> the media is not going to pick the next republican nominee, with all of the media saying this guy is too far to the right. the media tells us, well, you can't deport.

onto hooksett, we joined cruz aboard his bus for a one on one interview. where is the media getting you wrong? >> well, listen, the media has their favorites. reporter: according to cruz that includes donald trump, who oh spent much of the day on twitter accusing the texan of stealing the caucuses in iowa alleging that his campaign fueled a rumor that ben carson was dropping out of the race and as a result picked up his votes. >> it's yet another trumper tantrum. listen, donald is so erratic, you wonder do you really want his finger on the button? he's meeting down. i don't think the american people are interested in a circus or side show. you need a commander in chief who doesn't break into tears at the latest opinion polls. is donald likely to wake up one morning and nuke denmark? josh: ted cruz says he will spend the bulk of his time in

lead bernie sanders has in new hampshire, chalking it up to a neighborly advantage. but going on the offense about her record as a progressive, reminding the pro hillary crowd about health care and other big issues. >> i think it was a good day for progressives when i helped to get 8 million kids health care under the children's health insurance program. [applause] and i think it was a good day for progressives when i joined with colleagues in the senate to stop george w. bush from privatizing social security. reporter: clinton will be at the mclaughlin middle school in an hour, then she heads back to derry for that town hall with bernie sanders where the progressive issue will likely come up early. tom: bernie sanders just wrapped up a news conference in concord talking about the transpacific partship, a trade agreement he

topic he says highlights the differences between his approach and his rivals. wmur's adam sexton live in concord tonight, covering the sanders campaign. adam? reporter: tom, we're live on airport road in front of the ibew hall where senator sanders just spoke, and this was about the transpacific partnership. obviously senator sanders very opposed to that. he was backed by a number of union members who were applauding his stance on that issue. he's definitely trying to draw contrasts with secretary clinton as we head toward the final few days of campaigning here. certainly the contrast was there on the t.p.p., but the reporters were also asking him about when he thinks about her record in terms of what she's been saying on the campaign trail in terms of trying to downplay expectations and saying that he's got a home field advantage here being from vermont, senator

had, he started to complain about what he sees as the clinton campaign ability to spin things in their direction. >> they are fantastic spinners. they can spin anything. and somebody from the clinton campaign was going bernie sanders has run the most negative campaign in the history of the democratic primary process. total absurdity. reporter: senator sanders' stance on the t.p.p. all the puts him in opposition to president obama, as far as he would go on that was saying that he disagrees with the president on this issue. this is a stance on write the president is a moderate and bernie sanders is a progressive, but that's about all he had to say on that. the candidates meeting up tonight in derry for that town hall, we'll be there to cover it live. adam sexton, wmur news 9. jennifer: senator marco rubio made three stops so far today,

suit that you see there that yet toed him, he called it good for the heat building in this campaign. he didn't mention republican rivals by name, but he struck familiar themes in a town hall in laconia. rebuilding the military, reducing the debt and securing the american dream. when asked if he thinks of himself as an anti-establishment candidate, he says that he shuns labels, but claims the establishment didn't want him to run. >> i've had close to $4 million of attack ads run against me. that money didn't come in $50 increments, those were multimillion dollars checks from people who have been involved in politics for a long time. so we've always taken on the establishment. jennifer: he told the crowd he wanted to keep his introductory speech short to spend more time taking their questions. tom: and three other presidential hopefuls were in the state today, jeb bush was at colby sawyer college in new london this morning, where he

and disabled vets. i disagree. in fact, not only should we not cut benefits -- we should expand them. my plan for social security increases benefits and cost of living adjustments and raises minimum payments for low-income seniors. it will ensure that all seniors can retire with dignity and respect. i'm bernie sanders, and i approve this message. car repairs, home improvements, a family trip ...it's not easy to afford them. what did marco rubio do? he put $22,000 in personal expenses on a republican party credit card. rubio's bad judgment caused a scandal and for five years rubio refused to release the credit card records. marco rubio: skipping major votes... all over the place on immigration... bad judgment. r he's just not ready to be president.

should be at least 6 inches. >> if you go around lake winnipesaukee, there's nobody out there, it dangerous. reporter: it's having an effect on many winter staples in new hampshire like the ice fishing derby. that's been postponed. and the sled dog derby canceled. >> there's no ice on the lakes, so we've definitely had had to make a decision to cancel the event. reporter: jim's grandfather started the derby in the 1930's. this is one of the mildest winters they've seen. >> they haven't even opened the snowmobile trails, so we haven't been our trail once this year. also called off. but there is some good news. the hockey classic in meredith is still a go, but had to be moved from lake winnipesaukee to lake walkewon. the event draws in nearly 2,000 people and right now organizers are doing all they can to deal

>> we drilled a few test holes. hopefully it freezes. mike: looks like temperatures actually climb through the course of the night. take a look at time lapse out at the coast today, the dreary weather locked in early and hasn't given up just yet, as we still have some showers moving through parts of southern new hampshire. looking ahead, shower threat for the most part tonight will be in extreme southern new hampshire as temperatures head higher statewide. right through the course of the night. into early tomorrow morning. speaking of early tomorrow, could be a couple of showers mainly along the coastline, outside of that it dries out and stays warm before it begins to cool back closer to normal by friday and over the weekend into a good part of next week as well. notice steady rain shifting to the east right now, a couple of lingering sprinkles across the mountains and great north woods.
6:16 pm
farther south steadier light rain manchester and points south. a lot of that will move off to the east in the next couple hours and that means mainly dry weather in terms of steady rain. having said that not a big wind field developing to dry us out, solo level cloudiness, fog, sprinkles here or there overnight. the wind flow out of the southeast, so that's beginning to drive temperatures up in many spots, where it's been cool all day long. take a look at manchester, about 10 minutes ago checking in at 43 degrees. now up near 50. speaking of the 50 club, you're in it, all through the monadnock region, from 52 to 56 at this hour. even through the great north woods in the upper 40's and 32 over 6,000 feet up is very warm for the summit of mount washington this time of year. where do we go tonight? temperatures hold steady or even rise in some cases, it's 40's and lower 50's through the course of the evening and those temperatures could fall a little
6:17 pm
the most part stay well into the 40's to near 50. there's much cooler air upstreaming back through the great lakes, plains states, rockies, and that's marching in our direction, about tomorrow might into friday and a good part of the weekend we're going to share the this cooler air. the big question when we cool down, do we see any snow chances. initially the first wave that will move along this same front that scoots just to our east late tonight into tomorrow, that should primarily miss new hampshire early friday morning. having said that, there is a chance in southeastern areas of a few flurries early friday morning. steadier snow southeastern parts of massachusetts, cape cod and the islands. tonight, clouds, fog, a few sprinkles. tomorrow quick drying during the my morning, into the afternoon. temperatures staying warm before we begin to cool back down with developing sun on friday. speaking of friday, can't rule out a few flurries. south and east of concord early morning, before it dries out statewide.
6:18 pm
season my chilly. then monday mainly dry, a few flurries possible late. two storms that we're tracking, right now looks like the first one stays far enough out to sea that could zap energy from the second one, so that even though i'm predicting snow on tuesday, at this point any way, six days out, looks to be on the light side. so coating, couple of inches, that sort of idea. but if it becomes stronger, we're doing more of this. tom: here in new hampshire we'll get to the polls no matter what.
