winter cold, kind of hits you just like that, especially when the winds crank up. today winds were gusty at times, but nothing compared to what's heading in our direction this weekend. we still have a few left over snow showers, isolated squalls around parts of the lakes region, including belmont. i can't rule out a snow shower anywhere up until about mine this evening. but the focus on the colder temperatures, near eight far north. much colder upstream. take a look at where temperatures are headed in the coming days, a high of close to 10, that's it. by sunday, of this weekend. what about the birth wind chills. tom: tonight a mother is speaking out after police say her daughter was the target of an online sexual solicitation.

accused was communicating through facebook with her and another 12-year-old girl. andy hershberger live now with what allegedly happened here. reporter: the mother of one of the victims says she came to court to make sure that earnest hardy would stay behind bars. 32-year-old earnest hardy faces a total of five charges, after police say he used facebook to ask a 12-year-old girl for a nude picture and to solicit a sexual encounter from a different 12-year-old girl. >> older men should just leave little girls alone, i don't understand it. reporter: this woman who did not want to go on camera and used the name tammy is the mother of one of the 12-year-olds. >> disgusted, very, very disgusted. my daughter is 12. she should not be subject to something so horrible by such an older person, an older man. reporter: dam my says her daughter told an older brother what happened and it was eventually reported to the police. hardy faces two counts of

child, and three counts of certain uses of computer services prohibited. >> during an intervifw with the detectives he admitted that he's attracted to young females that that he was using the internet to solicit them. reporter: police say cases like this should remind all parents to monitor their children's use of social media. a message that tammy also wanted to stress. >> i just want parents to know to watch, be very, very cautious with their younger kids, the daughters especially. it's a horrible, horrible thing. reporter: hardy told the court today that he is on disability and is scheduled to be back before a judge for another hearing later this month. andy hershberger, wmur news 9. tom: tonight threatening charges have been dropped against the man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a teen-aged girl. nathaniel kibby faces more than 200 charges for the october 2013 kidnapping of a 14-year-old girl that lasted nine months. he was also charged with making

prosecutor in the case, senior assistant attorney general jane young. those have now been dropped. his case goes to trial in june. jennifer: right now an update to a story we told you about last month. an upper valley hospital is working to revaccinate hundreds of children. so far 250 patients of alice peck day memorial have been revaccinated after it was discovered the vaccines had been stored at the wrong temperature. the hospital has offered to revaccinate 827 patients at no cost. tom: so stocks finished down 254 points today, and oil prices san tok their lowest level since 2003. we'll we're enjoying lower price tess pump, the average person may still feel some pain in other ways. suzanne roantree here to explain why.

state, we're paying on average 1.74 for a gallon of gas. while we're enjoying these low prices, we are finding that we're going to have some 401-k's. experts say in the long run investment portfolios will be fine, but in the short term it's bad news. financial advisor marshall rowe says that's because energy company shares are way down and while. also, some banks that have led to a lot. money to the energy industry may lose money, causing stress in the financial markets. but with gas and crude oil supplies at record levels, rowe says oil prices are likely to stay lower for quite some time. >> they'll likely use those savings to buy bigger cars, more cars, newer cars, and also as they are looking at their homes and thinking about the extra money they have in their pocket, they're likely to put additions on, by new appliances, upgrade their homes, so consumer

of this. reporter: also the airlines, the rail industry and the trucking industry all will reap the benefits of the lower costs of the fuel. but they're going to take a while for those costs to, rather the benefits to be brought down to us. suzanne roantree, wmur news 9. jennifer: the new numbers are in tonight, new hampshire's secretary of state says more than 538,000 people voted in tuesday's primary. that is a record turnout. in the meantime, the democratic presidential candidates are preparing for tonight's high stakes debate, while the republicans focus in on voters in south carolina now. now to the high profile u.s. senate race here in new hampshire. tonight republican incumbent kelly ayotte has made a challenge to her opponent, governor hassan. tom: senator ayotte called on hassan to sign the peoples

would keep third party money out of the race. josh mcelveen is live now to explain. josh: under this agreement the candidate would publicly call on outside groups to stop spending on behalf of their individual campaigns. the enforcement mechanism, if a third party does spend money despite that call, the campaign benefiting would give half what was was spent to charity. it promises to be one of the most expensive in state history. it was an agreement born in the 2012 senate rice in massachusetts between scott brown and elizabeth warren. >> i want in race to be about new hampshire. reporter: the high profile race, ayotte's preemptive move -- >> since she's gotten into the senate race she has repeatedly railed against third party special interest groups. and if she really is concerned about this and this is not just

>> this proposal really deserves a good look. reporter: governor hassan appears to be considering the pledge. she also questions the timing of the offer. >> i'm also, though, a little bit interested that it is coming from senator ayotte now, after outside groups have spent already $5 million to benefit her. and having said that i will certainly review the proposal carefully. reporter: the in 2014 brown refused to sign the pledge, but it was offered, when it was offered by jeanne shaheen. but in this race strategies on both side have doubts about the impact it would have. >> there's going to be plenty money rolling around no matter what the source is. >> i just don't belief in ten it going to happen. josh: ayotte said in a followup statement that if the pledge is good enough for that reason and warren, it should be good enough for maggie hassan, urging her to sign the pledge immediately.

in addition to metal detectors, people coming to the arena may also be subject to patdowns. no large bags are allowed and that includes backpacks. purses and diaper bags will be allowed but they'll be searched. cell phones will be allowed unless banned by a particular performer. and of course no weapons of any kind are allowed. arena officials say they are trying to be pro-active with safety. >> we're just trying to stay ahead of it, so that people know that we take safety seriously here. but there are no credible threats against us, there have not been. but let's just be at the forefront of everyone's mind that safety is our priority and when they come to a show they'll enjoy it and be safe. shelley: if you're coming out to a show, you're asked to give yourself a little bit of extra time.

ponds should not be considered safe. jennifer: fish and game officials say conditions vary widely around the state, but in general ice conditions are poor right now. one problem is that most of the ice is white ice, which means it has more air in it and it's affected by constantly melting and refreezing. the cold weather this weekend will help, but officials still say everyone needs to check for thickness. >> we're going to make a lot of ice this weekend, but next week as the temperatures get warm it could melt. the shorelines are extremely weak as well because of all the thawing and freezing that we've had. but things are starting to freeze up more with the cold weather we've had lately. jennifer: fish and game recommending that ice be 4 to 6 inches thick in order to support a few well dispersed people. mike: focus certainly on the cold air heading in our direction, but changeable skies out there at newfound lake today.

times, a few snow showers, not much more than a dusting to a half inch in spots. not a lot on doppler radar, but there are heavier squalls off shore. approaching rochester as well. scattered snow showers could deposit a quick dusting to half inch of snow and then after about 7:00 or 8:00 this evening the snow shower threat will diminish. temperatures again become the big focus from here on out, down to 15 below atop mount washington, single numbers in the great north woods, near zero along the canadian border. upper teens to around 20 elsewhere in central and southern new hampshire. overnight tonight, heading for near zero if not a little below in the great north woods, and just a little bit above that zero degree mark in southern new hampshire. speaking of zero, we have not gone below zero so far this season, and what about those bitter win chills. for more on the cold stats for

hayley lapoint the windham. hayley: yes, i can tell you first hand, it definitely feels really chilly. over the past couple of minutes even and there have been a couple of wind gusts that almost take your breath away. you can feel the arctic cold almost setting in here. so i want to talk a little about this cold. in concord, as mike mentioned, we haven't gone below zero yet so far this season. north. but it's been over 340 days since we've gone below zero in concord and much of southern new hampshire. the last time, march 7th of 2015. so we wanted to give you an idea of just how cold it's going to feel. look at this computer model, this is forecasting the wind chills, so the temperature with the wind. and over the weekend once we get to about saturday afternoon, saturday night, it's going to feel like 20, maybe even 30 degrees below zero. that's dangerous cold. take a look at some of these tips and things to keep in mine. yes, can you go skiing, yes, you

but cover up your skin. give yourself plenty of layers. keep in mind your pets and kids, they can't necessarily tell you when they're really cold socker it's a good idea to limit their exposure outdoors. back here live in wind ham, i'm actually standing, you can hear it, you can hear me stomping on the pond, it's now refrozen at least by the edges. way out there it's actually still open water. so at least the good thing with in, more colder air that is coming in, it will start to freeze up the lakes and pond around here so that people can get back out and it would be be as unsafe as it's been recently. hayley lapoint, live in wind ham, back to you, mike. mike: thanks. we're talking about the cold air as you menged with the wind and of course the origin for this, the arctic and that continues to drive the that frigid air in our direction. so overnight tonight we'll be a little below zero up north. and then that real surge of the

season, builds right on top of us, not only in new hampshire, but in the eastern part of the lakes region, all the way back into the great lakes, and lifts out by sunday night and monday, so that by presidents day the afternoon we're back into the 20's and the winds a lot lighter. and that will also set the stage with warmer air by tuesday, for the next storm to actually be snow to a mix and maybe even rain in some spots. so snow showers end quickly this evening. then we're back to clear skies later on tonight. sunshine early tomorrow before more clouds roll in. those clouds along the leading edge of that frigid air that moves in for the weekend. so we could see a snow shower or brief snow squall friday night through mid to late morning saturday. and any one given community the wind crank up, that high temperature of 15 on saturday will be reached at about 10 or 11 in the morning, temperatures slide all afternoon long. the coldest will be on sunday, when temperatures may struggle

on the jets in winnipeg tonight. b's coming off a 9-2 loss to the kings on tuesday. game time tonight 8:00. by sunday fight we'll know which three men and three women will make up team u.s.a., the olympic marathon trials are saturday in los angeles. seven new hampshire runners qualified and will be competing on the streets of l.a. here are two of them. >> it's going to be really exciting, you know, i'm going there mainly for the experience, there's not really a possibility that i was going to qualify for the team, so it's really for the experience. so just to even be in that venue with those type of athletes is an honor. >> it's a looped course, which i think will be an advantage for me. i do better when i know exactly what's coming and when it's coming, so being able to loop around it four times will definitely be a huge advantage for me. jamie: about 350 runners total,

andrew hubner the only guy. good luck to all the runners. there is a successful new hampshire history at the olympic trials, dartmouth grad bob kemperinwon, taking home $100,000 for the win. now a doctor he's living in his native minnesota. his running career included second place finishes in new york city and l.a., he had a 7th place finish at boston in 1994. this past weekend bishop guertin senior nick won the indoor in the high jump and will play at u.n.h., nick lorton. >> i chose u.n.h. football because i any the program is the best fit for me. their offense is very similar to what we ran this year, so i think that will be the best fit

i'm the best teammate i can and give 100% to every my. making plays and who ever wants it more is who ever is going to make the biggest play. i started high jump in 8th grade because my parents and coaches encouraged me to participate in track because they said it would help with football. i tried high jumping one day and my coach said i did pretty well, so i just carried on with that. if you have strong legs and a good vertical, that doesn't mean anything in high jump, you have to have the technique to get over the bar, it all about how you go over the bar, when you bend your back. i was hoping to beat my high school record. i'm expecting it to be a lot more difficult than high school football. with the teammates and the new hampshire guys who will be with me eventually i'll fit right no.
