announcer: no one covers new hampshire like we do. now, wmur news 9 at 6:00. stephanie: u.s. marshal service confirms supreme court justice antonin scully has died. sources say the 79-year-old justice died in his sleep at his ranch in south texas. good evening, i' m stephanie woods. adam: i am adam sexton. i aixa diaz has the latest. reporter: the u.s. marshal service in washington has confirmed his death at a private residence in southwest texas. the chief justice of the supreme court, john roberts, issued a to report the death of his ordinary individual and jurist. robert says his passing is a loss to the court and country he loyally served. the conservative justice was appointed to the court by

tonight. even if it is someone who has caused trouble in the past, the shelter has a room or they can be safe. several people have been dropping off donations. we spoke to one woman collecting blankets and clothing for manchester' s homeless. >> when it is this cold, i feel for these guys. i don' t want anyone to be outside. it is terrible. >> if anyone needs a roof, absolutely come here. if you have questions about your eligibility, give us a call. mike: shelter is staffed normally with two people. the program director says when you consider upwards of 80 people staying here tonight, they could use additional help. reporting live in manchester, mike cronin, wmur news 9. stephanie: mike looks cold out there. many people across the state are thankful or the cold temperatures. the bitter temperatures are helping several events today. including a hockey tournament in londonderry. that' s where wmur'

carosa. kristen: organizers are grateful for the cold weather. take a look behind me. last week, the rink was a puddle but now the ice conditions are perfect. the ice conditions are perfect in this outdoor rink in londonderry just in time for roy' s cup. the 9th annual event is being held for dan smith' s daughter, samantha. she passed away in 2004 from a boating accident. money from the event will benefit her foundation. >> we have 12 different teams with 12 different sponsors and we have three different divisions. we have an over 50, we have a pink and purple which are samantha' s favorite colors, we will have three champions by this time tomorrow. kristen: people headed out on snowmobiles for a good cause. she organizes the pink ride in hollis each year, a fundraiser held to fight breast cancer. but up until last week, the event was in jeopardy because of

>> we had no snow on the ground, we had that first storm, and i have been praying for snow. kristen: thankfully they got what they wanted and ended up raising more than $25,000 for st. joseph hospital breast care center. >> it is for technology, software enhancements, early detection. it is saving lives. kristen: and in manchester, a road race took off this afternoon, making for a chilly run through the city. but it didn' t appear to be hard for this guy. >> i had a goal for the year. no matter what temperature it is i will only wear just a shirt , and shorts. adam: that was kristen carosa reporting. three families are temporarily in manchester. firefighters happened to be corner from this building on concord street when the flames

that made for a quick save and relative little damage. >> we only have to replace one half of the building. three families will be displaced. everybody else will be able to go back tonight. adam: the owner tells news 9 he will be paying for hotels for those displaced. one firefighter suffered a hand injury but he is back at work tonight. stephanie: a pair of breast cancer survivors are holding a pink carpet party at the bravo boutique in concord. five women battling breast cancer will get a chance to put on fancy gowns, have their make-up done, and professional photos taken. that is a nice thing they are organizing. a 10-year-old boy is battling a second round of leukemia. >> it is endless. all the little things people do mean so much. stephanie: how the community is coming together to find him a cure.

we have upped them in the last half-hour. concord has constant winds at 21 miles an hour. we have had gusts well above that. tonight when you have the wind blowing that cold arctic air, it have surrounding your body. colder. you cannot get warm. any bearskin, you can get frost within moments this cold. wind chills already close to 30 below. concord, 14 below. this is bone chilling cold air. this is 9:00 tonight. you see wind chills across the state getting below 20, even 30, possibly below 40 below up north. this is very cold stuff.

it gets better with single digits below for wind chills by sunday afternoon. even that is brutal. here are the things you need to know tonight. cover up and later up. put on has and gloves, anything you need, even a facemask if you have to spend extended time outside. cover your face because you can get frostbitten on exposed skin. limit exposure, especially for children and animals. not a night to keep the dog outside. take everybody inside. and stay warm. wind chill warning across the state tonight with the exception of the seacoast where there is an advisory. all of us will have wind chills 20 below overnight. clear skies with temperatures on the way down. that cold. they could be that much colder for this time in february. problem. overnight tonight, clearing skies. maybe a few clouds up north.
