the pilot side and the back seat and saw him and then saw the seat was twisted. instant. >> all five on board were rescued. a teenager was taken to the hospital in critical condition. the helicopter belongs to a company that's conducted tours for more than 15 years. a woman who's already been busted for trying to sneak on to airplanes without a ticket has done it yet again. marilyn hartman was arrested wednesday at o'hare airport and being held on $150,000 bond. in the past, hartman has tried to illegally board planes numerous times succeeding at least once. she's now charged with a probation violation and trespassing and airline travel complaints were up last year for many travelers. that's no surprise. there were more than 20,000 passenger complaints in 2015. that's up 30% from the previous year. the three worst airlines were envoy, frontier, spirit.

hey, why do you need a roller coaster when you have waves like this off cape cod in the coast guard post there had video of a crew train ing inheavy surf. the recent film "the finest hours" about a rescue more than 60 years ago also in rough seas. >> to houston now and check out this video of a school bus coming dangerously close to being hit by a train. the driver said the students were being too loud for him to drive safely. at first, the driver was suspended while the incident was investigated but the investigation found that the driver failed to follow proper procedures when crossing a railroad track. and the driver was then fired. turning now to another danger on america's highways. the bridges that connect them. a new report finds one in ten bridges across the country are structurally deficient. and in need of repair. >> and among them are some of

heavily traveled bridges. here's abc's gio benitez. >> reporter: that new government study paints a frightening picture of bridges in need of repair. more than 58,000. so many, if you join them all up, you would have a more than 1,300-mile bridge from new york to miami. among them, the brooklyn bridge, memorial bridge in washington, d.c. and heavily traveled bridges on interstate 405 in los angeles, several on i-95 in philadelphia. for many of them, the problem is age. of the 250 most heavily traveled bridges, 85% were built before 1970. we've seen disasters in recent years. >> a catastrophic event would not be an understatement. >> reporter: in 2007, 13 people died when a minneapolis bridge collapsed during rush hour. >> look at the rust. >> reporter: in 2013, "20/20's" deborah roberts went to look at one bridge that was once called the most dangerous bridge in the

>> holy crap! >> reporter: bystanders jump in to help the five people on board. a knife reportedly needed to free one of them. all survived. one in a neck brace. a 16-year-old male in critical condition. the chopper coming down in pearl harbor near the uss arizona memorial. >> that was scary. we were thinking we were going to see a dead body come up. >> reporter: it's clear in the video the tail rotor is not turning and the sound from the engine is erratic. scott reiff is a helicopter pilot for kabc. >> it appears at some point he lost some type of power, that he disengaged the rotor system from the engine. he may have flared a little too high. it's hard to say for certain. just didn't have enough energy in the rotor system to cushion the landing. >> reporter: the bell 206 is a single engine, five-seat aircraft. this one built in 1979 and owned by what appears to be a one-helicopter tour company called genesis. the surviving pilot should be able to tell investigators exactly what went wrong. the navy aided firefighter crews

the ntsb is saying they are launching a investigator to hawaii to try and learn what happened. david kerley, abc news, washington. >> we move on to more dramatic video as firings near kansas city battle a huge brush fire. they believe it was sparked by grass cutting equipment. but the heat from the blaze and the high winds fanning it korea add fire tornado. the fire is on prison property. but it closed a nearby highway. consuming about 1500 acres and is about 75% contained this morning. no homes are threatened at this time. not so in eastern oklahoma where there are more than two the most in years. officials say numerous homes were lost. but they don't know how many as yet. the city of tulsa has been filled with smoke from the fires. firefighters are using see there on these fires and officials say they are so intense right now. well, in northern california, the threat is much more wintry. a powerful system brought nearly a foot of snow to some of the

strong winds are also limiting visibility with whiteout conditions. many truckers pulled over till the roads were cleared. >> and it may take as long as a week to clean up this weather a strong wind storm followed by a hailstorm and heavy snow. the winds blew vehicles off the road, uprooted trees and knocked a highway sign into power lines. power in the salt lake city area. temperatures fell 30 degrees within a short period. >> speaking of today's weather and the forecast, windy conditions will continue to threaten the great plains and midwest with high fire danger. downpours in the pacific another foot of snow is possible in the sierra nevada and cascades. snow and freezing rain in western new york. >> and we're talking record warmth in the midwest 56 in chicago, 70 in kansas atlanta, 80s in dallas and phoenix.

>> well, a few storm cloud rums through last night's democratic town hall in las vegas. hillary clinton booed by the crowd when she accused bernie sanders of not being a real democrat until he decided to run for president. she also criticized sanders for his attacks on the two most recent democratic presidents. bernie sanders had a few harsh words for clinton, as well as the two candidates battled it out ahead of tomorrow's primary in south carolina and tuesday's vote in nevada. in an interview with b.e.t., sanders questioned clinton's admiration for president obama saying it's just her way of trying to win black votes. don't you think they should all do the lip sync showdown to determine who wins the primary? >> lip sync battle? >> that would be kind of fun. so this we know, donald trump is well-known as you know for picking fights with anyone who questions or criticizes him. and his popularity never seems to waiver. but now he's going head to head with one of the most beloved men

doctrine rejecting abortion as a response to the crisis. pregnant mothers are among the most vulnerable to the zika virus. there's a new argument against breastfeeding too long. children may get too little vitamin d that way. breast milk does not provide enough vitamin d particularly in northern areas. so canadian pediatricians are recommending that children who are breast fed take vitamin d supplements for their first year. now to some news we can relate to on this shift. sleep deprivation. this is breaking news and ground breaking. a new study from the centers of disease control finds that one in three americans don't get enough sleep. the shocking news says that at least seven hours of sleep we're not getting, that could lead to some serious health issues like heart disease. the study also features a state by state break down of sleeping patterns. people in south dakota get the most sleep but folks in hawaii get the least sleep. >> that's interesting. it's warmer in hawaii.

department to take additional steps in court to force apple to open that iphone immediately. pierre thomas, abc news, washington. now to a missouri woman who is in federal custody this morning after showing support for isis in social media. the fbi searched her home in an early morning raid after knocking down the doors with a battering ram. federal investigators say she used a twitter account associated with isis to call for the murder of two fbi agents. she allegedly even posted their home addresses, as well. and as if that weren't enough, there are also fears isis may get its hands on the makings for a nuclear bomb. radioactive material that was stolen a few months ago from an american company's facilities in iraq was supposed to be used to help find leaks in oil field equipment. iraq has been looking for the material without any success. >> pope francis raised eyebrows with a comment about the zika virus outbreak.

wint killed an executive, his wife, his son and their housekeeper, then set their house on fire before fleeing. he was linked to the crime by dna found on a pizza crust. the stakes may get higher for the so-called affluenza teen today. a judge will decide whether to move his case to adult court. the transfer would happen when ethan couch turns 19 in april. the convicted drunk driver has been in a maximum security adult facility for nearly two weeks. the judge may also decide to keep him there until his birthday when the penalties for violating probation will become more severe. >> firefighters near kansas city are battling a huge brush fire. they believe it was sparked by a lawnmower. with the heat from the blaze and the high winds fanning it created a fire tornado. you saw that. the fire is on prison property but it has closed a highway nearby. it has consumed about 1500 acres and is about 75% contained.
