the police alerted salem police about pope. they say he was involved in a domestic incident. the mall. when he tried to pull him over, 2. out of public safety police say they called off the chase because of his excessive speed. he crashed nearby into a telephone pole. police and his parents talked to him on the cell phone and convinced him to come out. during the chase, 16 local officers and a half dozens state police troopers were involved. >> that's probably the, you know, primary concern people's safety including his own. i'm glad nobody was hurt during the initial ea -- attempt to stop. that's the reason why i called it off because it was go getting too changes.

conduct, conduct after an incident. stephanie: one man is in the hospital after a serious crash in se lem. police say an 18-year-old pizza delivery driver was pulling out of a prasa on north broadway just before 7:30 when he crashed with a motorcycle. he was metflighted to a boston hospital with unknown injuries. police say the teen didn't see the biker. right now rain showers are moving out of the granite state. you're taking a live look in concord where it's a mild 45 degrees. hayley lapoint is here. hayley, how long can we expect this warm weather to stick around? hayley: it's incredible to see temperatures at night that warm. remember last weekend at this time? it was easily close to like 20 below in concord at this time and with the wind chill it felt like 30 below. so a huge difference between now and then. rain showers, though, we had moving across the state are basically dwindling.

injury but was treated on the scene. >> there was significant smoke fire damage. the garage is totally destroyed. >> it's a very nice community over here and everybody watches out for everybody else. i'm sure everyone's going to be asking them if they need help. stephanie: the flames and smoke caused several hundred thousand dollars of damage. the state fire marshall says 59-year-old stephen gracyalny was arrested and being held on $50,000 cash bail. he intentionally caused fire, injuries. a fire in campton destroyed a snowmobile.

responded to a snowmobile fire near the campground. firefighters were ablele to put time-out flames in a few minutes. the cause of the fire is under investigation. tonight, marks the 13th year anniversary of the rhode island nightclub fire in west war wick. 100 people died when the fire broke out. the band great white set off fireworks which ignited flammable foam inside the club. organizers have raised $1.6 million of their $2 million goal. tonight, a university of new hampshire student is recovering from a stabbing. durham police arrested 20-year-old matthew gibbons and 21-year-old eric denning on assault charges. both are students at u.n.h. and they will be arraigned in court on monday. the injured student had surgery at wentworth hospital and is

a record-breaking number of overdoses in manchester this month. in manchaster, 12 of those overdoses were deadly. that number surpasses the worst month on record. >> the numbers that we're seeing are unprecedented. i just got from my national meeting from a.m.r. and speaking to my colleagues, nobody's experiencing it like we are in new hampshire. stephanie: it's taking its toll. they say it affects every facet of the system. firefighters were out on the ice today practicing ice rescues. four different types of rescue scenarios were set up to give the crew the training they need if an animal or person should fall through the ice. these trainings are held twice a year. >> we're looking at an opportunity for us to fine tune our skills in ice rescue.

they are, we know the risk. so we want to make sure that our penalty nell are comfortable with their skills with ice rescue and are familiar with the quill. stephanie: the chief says if someone falls through the ice it's important to call 911 right away so that crews can get on scene as fast as possible. lack of snow is forcing the team with sled dog race to cancel. it was scheduled for next weekend but the new england sled dog club says there's not enough snow for races. the club has postponed the race in january because of the weather and now they're forced to cancel. the tram at cannon mountain is closed for repairs. the tram trapped nearly 50 people 40 feet off the ground will not be operating this weekend. this is exclusive video from the scene. officials say mechanical malfunction was the cause and they're working complete a repair project.

motel here in the nation's capital. nikole killion, wmur news 9. stephanie: right now the governor is in washington, d.c. with a meeting from governors from across the country. governors are discussing threats of terrorism and the economy during the three-day meeting. she will speak about the drug crisis. on monday the governors will discuss their priorities with president obama. the u.s. government wants to catch him and today he appeared in manchester via scape. edward snowden delivered this weekend's keynote address at the new hampshire liberty forum. he spoke from russia where he's been granted asylum. he went public with the full extent of secret mass surveillance programs. >> the government was warrant lesley and unconstitutionally spying on billions of people around the world and millions of people in america and he let

stephanie: while wmur was prohibited from video recording, and listen. he says he's ready to accept extradition to face charges under if espionage act. middle and high school students from new hampshire and vermont came together in concord today for the annual state vex robotics competition. the day long competition took place at the new hampshire technical institute. teams battled together. the day started with practice rounds andened with qualifying rounds. >> it teaches about mechanical, electricity, electronics and programming. these robots have mechanical components, sensors and they all tie together. stephanie: the winning teams from today's competition will go on to the world championships. >> now meteorologist hayley lapoint.

it was a beautiful day in southern new hampshire. we had bright sunshine. there's a times lapse from portsmouth and then late in the day clouds began to increase. that's how it's been throughout the evening. we do have a lot of clouds overhead but those should be thing out pretty soon as this latest threat of rain showers ends. but it was a different story in the northern part of the state where clouds and even some showers held on for much of the day. but statewide it was incredibly mild. look at the temperatures that we got today. 58 in concord. 59 degrees in manchester. 58 in nashua in the upper 40's state. this is definitely warm stuff when you consider the average high is only in the mid 30's. look at where we stand now. still 50 degrees in manchester. 49 in portsmouth. 45 in concord. we have temperatures in the mid 30's when you get upnorth.

the winds are out of the southwest. so it's bringing in the mild. the winds are relatively light at this hour. the latest three-hour loop of the satellite radar shows you where the rain had been coming down especially in central new hampshire. but it kind of fizzled out. and we just have a few lingering rain showers and spits of rain over the white mountains and even some higher elevations snow showers too. but that's all that we've got from this system. it's wrapping up. you can make out how the clouds are beginning to clear out. i wouldn't be surprised by early tomorrow morning almost all of us get to see the sunshine. it will be a brighter day tomorrow. we'll call it a mix of clouds. this is about 7:00 and you see the clouds lingering north of the natches. but southern new hampshire looking good with sunshine. a few passing clouds but it will

to today maybe a bit cooler. on monday, temperatures a little bit cooler. we'll have highs back in the 30's, a little closer to average for this time in february. tomorrow, near 50. 47 degrees in derry. about 49 when you get into chester. 47 degrees in hillsborough and in boston and into the lakes region mid 40's. conway, tamworth to in the low to mid 40's. freedom, you'll have temperatures in the 40's tomorrow. we're looking at upper 30's even way up north in the state. it will be cloudier up there maybe a few snow showers in the higher elevations. it's one of those days where we'll have clouds and very mild temperatures. there's the temperature cooldown a libby early next week. temperatures will be in the 30's. about 40 degrees on wednesday with some mixed showers arriving by the evening.

showers but then some much milder air comes in. look at this. we'll have high temperatures on wednesday and into thursday in the 40's. so with this next storm system approaching, it will easily be bringing in mainly rain for us. it looks like it could even be some heavy rain by the time we get to thursday afternoon. but then we're back to cooler temperatures by the end of next week friday and saturday. dryer. but temperatures will be in the 30's for high. stephanie, it's kind of one of these crazy examples today again of how extreme this winter has been. a week ago, you know, i was running out to warm-up my car and now it's 50 degrees in manchester at this hour. stephanie: only in new hampshire. that looks like a spring forecast. today. stephanie: the bruins are
