crews use excavators to knock down what little was left of the building here on mass road after flames had raged for several hours. we have exclusive video of that massive three alarm fire just minutes after it broke out around 1:30 yesterday afternoon. firefighters say there was several explosions inside the building which had been vacant for almost two years. the north garden chinese restaurant next door was evacuated. there's some damage to that building. the owner says she will likely be closed for a couple of weeks. investigators are trying to figure out why the fire got started. >> being a vacant building and nobody was able to deem it suspicious. >> that was double of the height of the north garden. there was black smoke way higher than that. reporter: flaming embers sparked several minor roof fires nearby. crews were able to quickly put those out.

ash falling at the verizon wireless arena. there were no injuries. reporting live in goffstown, i'm andy hershberger. erin: maggie hassan is urging the state public utilities commission to investigate another issue with liberty utilities distribution system in keene. the propane plant briefly caused a problem with the mix of gas and air flowing to customers. officials say it was fixed in seven minutes thanks to new measures. they dealt with a similar problem in december, but it lasted for more than 17 hours. a report from the puc is due by the end of next month. sean: we expect to learn new details about a robbery that resulted in a murder charge. 22-year-old gedeon karsai beat the clerk of 61 market with his fists and a baseball bat before grabbing some cash and running off.

to stop karsai after a short chase. the store owner says the clerk will be okay. this is the second time the store has been robbed this month. two u.n.h. students charged in connection with a stabbing are due in court today. durham police say the victim was stabbed twice. he is in stable condition. 20-year-old matthew gibbons of salem is charged with first-degree assault. eric denning is charged with second-degree assault with criminal and criminal liability. erin: donald trump and hillary clinton are riding new waves of support this morning after picking up wins over the weekend. meantime bernie sanders, marco rubio, and ted cruz are all scrambling to make up ground. kenneth moton is following the canes. reporter: this week it is the early presidential contest switch. >> we just won nevada. reporter: it is the democrats turn in the deep south while the republicans are out west in nevada for tomorrow's caucuses.

lukewarm reception at the african-american church. tomorrow night sanders and clinton will hit the stage for the democratic town hall at university of south carolina. the republicans will spend today rallies in nevada where the latest poll has trump leading by 26 points. kenneth moton, abc news, washington. erin: governor hassan is scheduled to meet with president obama to discuss the drug and opioid crisis facing new hampshire and the country. today is the final day of the national governors association winter meetings. drugs have been a major topic of discussion. hassan is the chair of the health and human services committee. highlighting the problem, there have been 41 doses in manchester alone with 11 deaths. the supreme court will be back in session this morning for the first time since the passing of justice antonin scalia. oral arguments begin at 10:00. chief justice john roberts is expected to

from the bench. sean: a man accused of running a meth lab is due in court today after he overcome by the fumes. 52-year-old robert acheson spilled some chemicals. he was found by a caseworker who was concerned for his well being. the drugs weren't found until police tried to lock up the house as acheson was being rushed to the hospital. he tried to jump off of his stretcher and keep the officers from going inside. erin: still ahead, it may sound like a nightmare to some people. officials in massachusetts are really considering creating a massive colony of rattlesnakes on a local island. sean: this is the damage caused when a train slammed in to a van trapped on the tracks. the driver walked away without a scratch. erin: in your next half an hour, should prisoners be allowed to vote? lawmakers are considering a bill to change the law in new the new caramel macchiato

average natural gas explosion leveled a home this weekend. a salesperson for the new housing community was checking on the sprinkler system. he smelled gas when he opened the garage door. he only took five steps away before the home exploded.

the massive damage there. isis is claiming responsibility for a series of bombings in syria yesterday that killed nearly 100 people and wounded more than 170. at least five bombs went off between damascus and the city of holmes including some that detonated near schools. the attacks come as secretary of state, john kerry, says there's an agreement for a ceasefire that could start soon. all parties might not comply right away. erin: marvell's "deadpool" continues to rule. it hauled in $55 million over its second weekend. it is now poised to become one of the most successful r rated movies ever. goffstown are back here at the scene of the fire on mass road. just a brief -- a few minutes ago they arrived back here on the scene. they are working to put out a couple of hot spots that have cropped up again overnight. they say it took minutes for the flames to engulf the building. there were several explosions inside. at this time, officials do not know what set those off. around 1:30 sunday afternoon flames engulf this vacant building on mass road in goffstown. smoke could be scene miles away. >> i was probably double the height of the north garden at its highest point. there was black smoke way higher than that. reporter: next door a full house at the chinese restaurant had to be evacuated. >> it was not panicky at all. nobody thought it was going to be the fire that it was. reporter: the restaurant has smoke damage and the vinyl siding melted. firefighters from about a dozen towns saved that building. business owner is grateful for their work.

can. >> at least a couple of weeks. because the power is gone and gas is all off. reporter: sunday night crews took down the empty building. they are trying to figure out what sparked the blaze. the building has been abandoned for almost two years. >> a vacant building. nobody was in the building. we'll deem it suspicious reporter: it was built more than 100 years ago. it has seen several businesses come and go. >> it was a trolley re-charging station when they had trolleys in the streets here. erin: -- reporter: no one was injured in the fire. back here at the scene, they are working to put out -- you can see them in the back there. they are working to put out some hot spots. we understand the

several minor roof fires that were quickly put out. ash was reported over at the verizon wireless arena in manchester which is about two miles away. live in goffstown, i'm amy hershberger. erin: thank you. a fire is under investigation this morning. the fire started about 5:30 yesterday evening inside a second story apartment on harvell street. no one was home. the sprinkler system put out most of the flames. they say the fire appears to be accidental. sean: a somersworth man accused of crashing in to a car while trying to escape an officer is due in court today. when a police officer tried to pull over a buick on north main street. the driver fled, ran a red light, and crashed in to a kia. three people suffered non-life threatening injuries. the driver of the buick, timothy sprague, was

charges, including dwi. erin: a candia is man, 59-year-old stephen gracy-alny, was charged with setting fire last week. he's being held on $50,000 cash bail pending his arraignment later this morning. the state fire marshals office says the investigation is ongoing. a pittsfield man is accused of fleeing the scene of an accident involving a stolen suv. 37-year-old daniel chambers crashed the stolen suv in to a guardrail on route 11 and andover and just took off. he was arrested after being spotted hitchhiking in the area. chambers is set to be arraigned on a water of charges today. sean: dartmouth college is the latest school to tell their students to leave the hover boards at home. they sent out an e-mail. they are a safety concern. they will be prohibited on all dartmouth-owned properties. the ban is temporary until safety concerns are addressed.

reports of hover boards capping fire. more than 30 universities, including u.n.h., have banned hover boards. erin: state lawmakers are considering a bill that would allow prisoners to vote. the proposed issue would like convicted felons vote behind bars. vermont and maine are the only two states where felons don't lose their privilege. they can become eligible right now once they are released. sean: the maple syrup season is off to an early start. the trees are tapped and farms. jim snyder began his day. that's when he usually others started earlier. >> some people tapped in really early in january. it is very unusual. traditional we don't tap late february. i know some people made a lot of syrup in january.

reporter: the prosecutor describing the calm man in which uber driver carried out the shooting spree. >> this wasn't hurried in any way, shape, or form. they are on video. we've watched the video. reporter: his rampage played out over the course of seven hours starting at an apartment complex. he gunned down a woman in the parking lot. hospitalized and expected to survive. her neighbors describe the horrifying attack. >> he was here to kill. reporter: more than four hours later another attack a father and son shot a car dealership. minutes after that, he opened fire on five people in the plot. a passenger who rode with dalton before the rampage described his troubles behavior. >> he got maybe a mile from my house. he got a telephone call. that, he started driving really erratically. we were driving through medians and the lawn. once he came to the

the car and ran away. reporter: perhaps even more bizarre, he picked up passengers between shootings. he was looking for more fares after the final attack. wmur news 9. erin: the death toll from a vicious cyclone has now climbed to 18. authorities are still struggling to communicate with some islands that suffered the worse damage. more than 6,000 people are now staying at emergency shelters. underground winds reached 177 miles per hour. making it the strongest storm on record in the southern hemisphere. sean: frightening moments in illinois. they had to evacuate. the bus was traveling on a busy road. passengers say the driver pulled over after hearing a loud pop and saw smoke coming from the tire. they had to get off of the bus and move back about 50 feet before it

no one was hurt. erin: bill cosby's wife, camille, is scheduled to give her deposition today in a defamation lawsuit. they are fighting to stop the deposition. right now it is expected to go ahead and 9:00 a.m. in springfield, massachusetts. eight women have sued for defamation. they claim he portrayed them as liars as they accused him of sexually assaulting them. sean: pope francis is speaking out against capital punishment. the pope is proposing that leaders who are catholic suspend executions during the holy year of mercy which runs through november. the pontiff is also throwing his support behind a conference set to begin today he hopes will help bring an end to the death penalty. erin: turning now to sports, it was an exciting sunday on the race rack. nascar drivers hit the gas for the daytona 500. chase elliot was the youngest driver to

his number 24 car ran in to some trouble on lap 19. elliot got lose and found himself in the infield. he avoided the wall. they ended up finishing 37th. on the final lap it was quite the finish. matt kenseth tried to hold off. there was contact and both cars were able to hold on. hamlin just barely edged out martin truex jr. at the line for the closest daytona 500 finish in history. denny hamlin gets his first daytona 500 win. sean: celtics took on the nuggets in denver. boston lost two of the last three games coming in. they bounced back in a big way. isaiah thomas lead with a double-double, 22 point and 12 assists. avery bradley added 20 points helping them build a lead in the first quarter. the nuggets made a run in the second half. the celtics were able to pull away winning the game 121 to 101. boston playing in

you make can apparently impact how long you live. that's according to a new study by the brookings institute. the study says that men who earn in the bottom 10% of income can expect to die about 12 years earlier than men who earn in the top 10% of income. researchers say one reason for this is that people are retiring at a much later age. and the longer a person works the more money that they receive from social security each month which enables them to live a much longer life. sean: a woman in iowa wants her pet snakes to be considered service animals. there's one major issue: the city she lives in bans people from owning snakes. she says she suffered from anxiety. medication has never helped. her only relief has been her pet ball pythons. if things do not change, she will consider moving

north and out west. those will continue to dry up. all eyes on the one system that comes at us in two parts. it will be the weaker version on wednesday in to the afternoon. the heaviest portion of it wednesday night in to thursday. you'll notice temperatures early this morning. not too bad to take. especially when you consider this time of year. we're running a solid 15-20 degrees cooler than yesterday at this time. there are some single digits up north. i suspect tomorrow morning you'll be down around 10 below in southern parts of coos county. the rest of us in the single digits below zero. single digits above zero in southern areas. maybe mid teens closer to the shoreline. for most today we're up in to the 30's. maybe a few spots touching 40. that's will be just a number. upper 20's up north. you'll notice the temperatures will fade back quickly. clear sky and light winds. thereby a lot of areas down below zero.

fall in to the teens. any sort of sunshine tomorrow giving way to high clouds should be a mainly dry day tomorrow. no problem through the evening commute tomorrow. it is later tomorrow night and in to wednesday where we'll start to see the moisture run in. it may be just cold enough that what we see at the start of this could be a little bit of light snow or light winter remix. a lot of that by later wednesday and a lighter version will change over to rain shower activity. it starts to pick up later wednesday night and thursday morning. could be over an inch of rainfall from that alone. once it pulls away, the winds pick up thursday afternoon and thursday night. we start cooling off for the end of the week and likely in to next weekend. temperatures in the 30's for the most part. we'll have the breeze out of the northwest through the day. mostly clear skies tonight. single digits above and below zero for cases tonight. we'll be in the lower range of the teens. the extended forecast, there's one day where temperatures will not be highs in the upper 20's to upper 30's. that looks to be on thursday.
