stephanie: tonight, a warning from fish and game officials. be careful during the ice fishing derby this weekend. recent rain and warm temperatures have weakened the ice and many of new hampshire' s , biggest lakes are not safe to go on. good evening, i' m stephanie woods. adam: and i' m adam sexton. meteorologist hayley lapoint tells us about another warm-up on the way. hayley: it is amazing. it has been this way all winter. today, temperatures were about average. tomorrow, we will have high temperatures getting close to 50 in a lot of spots. this is the forecast for tomorrow. if you have plans to fish, mostly cloudy skies in the morning. a mix of sun and clouds in the afternoon. look at the high temperatures in meredith. they will get close to 50 tomorrow afternoon. a big precaution about ice conditions across the state. 35 in concord now. 36 in manchester.

s up north. we do have clouds starting to stream in in northern new hampshire. there will be a few snow showers. you see those in vermont and new york. those will move across northern new hampshire tonight. the rest of us will have clear skies overnight. i will have more on your sunday forecast and a look toward next week ahead. stephanie: thanks so much. these mild temperatures mean there' s still open water on many of new hampshire' s lakes. you can see last year on the left and today on the right. this is video of the ice fishing last year, compared to this year. fish and game has increased haven' t had any safety problems wmur' the derby with more. dispersed for the evening. with the turnout. they say it has been bigger than they thought it would be. be careful around the ice. the great meredith rotary ice fishing derby is a statewide event which lasts until sunday.

for anglers that caught the biggest fish in each category. the big prize winner gets $15,000. recent rain and warmer winter had been thinking of canceling the derby, but they decided there is still safe ice to fish on. the lake was crowded again today. there is a lot of safe ice there to fish on. >> you' ve got to be really careful where you go. we normally don' t fish this area. we are here because there is ice. >> family and friends cooking and hanging out. we usually have 10 or 15 people. really a family and friend tradition. mike: new hampshire fish and game say there have not been reported issues of safety on the ice. reporting live in meredith, mike cronin, wmur news 9. adam: thank you. right now, health officials are warning of a mumps outbreak at st. anselm college. there are two confirmed cases

doctors say there is a the spread of the virus. health officials at st. anselm college thought they had a case this week. the symptoms matched, but tests came back negative. the men' s hockey team who came in with the same symptoms, low-grade fever and swollen parotid glands. reordered more intensive tests and confirmed two cases of mumps with three others classified as suspected cases, all of them students with routine contact through the hockey team. state epidemiologist dr. benjamin chan says even though the vast majority of students on campus are immunized, the vaccine isn' t a brick wall. >> with two doses of the mumps vaccine, it' s estimated to be 88% effective at preventing mumps, so it is still possible the students could get mumps. adam: any future cases are expected to be mild, but doctors want to be proactive to protect more vulnerable populations on campus. >> we do want to prevent this from spreading to other

totally immune. people that may not be able to get the vaccine, that includes pregnant women and the immuno-compromised, they can develop more serious infections, so we want to take precautions to prevent the virus from spreading. adam: any possible spread of mumps here is also expected to be blunted by the fact that everyone is now gone on vacation. >> typically the mumps incubation is 25 days, so we are in that window. our students now are on spring break, so hopefully that will decrease the risk as far as the close contact goes. stephanie: new tonight, check your bank statements if you filled up at a shell station in dover. police say shell stations on longhill road and central avenue had skimming devices on multiple gas pumps. the devices were hidden inside the pumps and not visible to customers. police don' t know how long the devices were on the pumps or how many people are affected. adam: the city of portsmouth said goodbye to former portsmouth mayor eileen foley today. the 8-term mayor died monday at the age of 97. friends and family attended her

immaculate conception church. wmur' s kristen carosa joins us with more on her final farewell. kristen: it was an emotional day as they honored eileen foley at the place she was baptized. foley is being remembered as a dedicated public servant. she held numerous terms on the city council and eight terms as mayor. foley also served seven terms as a state senator and was an ambassador for the city making trips to japan, ireland, and england. she retired at the age of 79. and while she known for her leadership, she was also known for being a loving mother and grandmother. three of her grandchildren shared stories about her today. >> she was not a politician to me. she was a warmhearted, italian, strong, which he grandmother who treated me as one of her own. home was where nana was.

helped me shaped my career path towards empathizing with people and helping them overcome extreme travesties. >> thank you, nana. i love you so much, so does portsmouth and everybody in this room. kristen: foley' s funeral procession passed by city hall for a final salute from the police and fire honor guard before heading to calvary cemetery this afternoon. live in studio, kristen carosa, wmur news 9. stephanie: thank you. hundreds of granite stater' s gathered to send off nearly 100 soldiers before they go overseas. two battalions of the new hampshire national guard are deploying to the middle east for a year. governor maggie hassan, senator kelly ayotte, senator jeanne shaheen spoke at the deployment ceremony this afternoon. colonel spencer, commander of the new hampshire national guard, told friends and family not to worry. >> to the family and friends in

announcer: now, meteorologist hayley lapoint and your stormwatch 9 forecast. hayley: we had a beautiful sunny day. in claremont, the last light in the distance. we are starting to gain more daylight at the end of the day. in plymouth, clear skies, a few high clouds overhead. you probably have noticed more daylight at the end of the day. the sunset is getting later. tonight, the sunset in concord was officially at 5:32. two weekends from now on march 13, our clocks spring forward. the sunset will be happening at 6:51 in the evening. may 11 is when we will have sunsets at 8:00 at night. we are starting to gain more daylight as we push forward.

look at temperatures across the state. we are all in the 30' s. 31 in portsmouth. 33 in rochester. 35 in concord. 36 in manchester. in the northern part of the state, lower 30' s. the winds out of the southwest have been might near 10 miles an hour across much of the state. since they are out of the southwest, warmer air is on the way again. tomorrow, temperatures in many locations cracking 50 degrees on another february day. it will be feeling more mild. clouds starting to stream in from the north. we are going to have even a few snow showers overnight. you see this line of snow showers extending from quebec city toward montreal and northern portions of new york state. this is going to slide across northern coos county.

county may get an inch or two out of this system. otherwise, light accumulation for most locations north of the notches overnight tonight. by 8:00 tomorrow morning, most of that snow shower action is over. across the rest of the state tomorrow, clouds and sunshine. at times, he might be more cloudy. by the evening, we will clear out. it is a temporary thing. monday morning, we are getting back to work and school. there may be some rain showers. with the timing of it, about 8:00 on monday to starts to move through, i' m willing to bet there will be slick spots up north and along the connecticut river valley as the cold air stays in place longer in the morning. be careful of that early monday morning.

jason: the red sox begin spring training games on monday. they play northeastern and boston college. a lot of young talent on the sox roster, players that came into their own last season and will likely have starting jobs this year. utility man brock holt expects to continue to see time at multiple positions, while mookie betts should be a fixture in the outfield. >> any baseball player would tell you they would like to have one position to focus on and they know they will be playing. but for me, moving around has become what i do. it has gotten me a job in the big leagues. it has helped me stay. i enjoy it. i enjoyed moving around and playing different positions. i like helping out when and where i can. it is a thrill for me to be able to do that. >> i love playing no matter what. that is the main thing, not taking anything for granted.
