and prompting warnings of rough surf and possibly riptides along the coast. good afternoon. i'm amy coveno. the storm won't directly hit new hampshire but it is affecting some labor day plans. meteorologist josh judge is here with what to expect. josh: amy, it is certainly getting close and is only going to get closer in the next day or so, and certainly makes you uneasy. but the effects, at least the worst of them, will be missing new hampshire. thicker and thinner at times, depending on where you are. there it is, the center of it slowly moving closer towards us. it is going to make a bend and turn in the other direction towards the next day or two. because of that we have a high surf advisory for tomorrow. also, the chance for showers.

battling rising waters where hermine made landfall as hurricane friday. >> we have an ocean on our front porch. elizabeth: flooding neighborhood of neighborhood from florida to virginia. thousands spent the weekend in florida without power, and officials warn the danger there isn't over yet. >> there is a lot of water that still has to move througho elizabeth: officials here in atlantic city will continue to monitor what you see right there, those ways. the officers out patrolling the area told me that as long as the recurrent dangers remain in place for the ocean rain off-limits to swim -- the ocean remains off-limits to swimmers. amy: with cape cod acting as a buffer zone, new hampshire is being spared the worst of the storm, but that doesn't mean

creating dangerous conditions for swimmers and boaters alike. ray brewer has been at the coast throughout the morning. ray, have you noticed any change in condition? ray: the waves are definitely stronger than one week got here around 4:30 in the morning. the waves are also picking up. in the early morning hours, surfers took to the water in rye hoping to take advantage of waves kicked up by now former hurricane herm but it was a struggle. the waves anything but uniform and that wasn't the only problem. >> the rip current is going pretty hard that way down the beach. i don't think i've ever experienced anything like that. >> today shouldn't be a day for inexperienced surfers at all : . definitely going to have issues with current just because there's too much surf out there and it's definitely not as organized with how heavy the winds are going to be today. ray: at hampton harbor the sightseeing, charter fishing

the first one happened sunday afternoon at the intersection of court and fair streets. police say a bicyclist was hit by a blue nissan altima that took off from the scene. the victim was taken to a local hospital. witnesses identified the driver as 54-year-old juan padua. police say an arrest warrant has been issued for him for charges of felony conduct after an accident and operating while being a habitual offender. and laconia p say hit an 11-year-old boy in the endicott street cumberland farms parking lot. officers say the boy was hit last night when a red car backed into him. a female passenger was heard yelling stop as the car drove away. it was last seen turning down tower street. the boy who was hit was treated at the scene. anyone with information on this hit-and-run is asked to contact laconia police. an 11-year-old boy is recovering after suffering serious injuries while hiking in franconia notch. just after 4:00 yesterday, the young boy slipped and fell on

rescuers were called and reached the boy and his family just after 7:00. the boy was then taken to the hospital. a hiker had to be rescued after suffering a medical emergency while coming down the huntington ravine trail on mount washington. fish and game officials say a 62-year-old man from massachusetts started feeling ill yesterday afternoon. the national guard sent to a helicopter to the area and a medic was lowered into the ravine. the hiker was airlifted to memorial hospital in north conway. at this time there is no word on his condition. how is your condition? you have been wrestling with hermine all morning. josh: hermine has been varying a little bit so the forecast continues to vary. amy: ok, and next on "cook's corner," we're making sausage on stick and lobster rolls all , simple meals for this labor

on this labor day monday, manchester favorite. chef fred, owner and head chef. fred: hi khomeini. -- hi, immigrant it -- hi, amy. it is labor day. no laboring unless you are a first responder or somebody on tv or a chef. amy: that's right. you have some beautiful things co modified to whatever your taste preferences are. sometimes this is stuffed in the casing. in this case i put it on a couple -- kabob, similar to a traditional middle eastern. -- turkish or middle eastern. cumin, coriander, hot seasoning -- i used chorizo but it could be anything you want.

could use all hamburger mix them up because lamb is a little expensive. in this case, i fire them up on a griddle here. they have browned up pretty nice. when they are done, you just put them right here. amy: can we talk about the skewers? we were talking about those off-camera. fred: these are real easy to find, pretty much anre you use them on the grill, so they resist burning. pretty much -- again, paper plate. a little bowl. you can throw it away when you are done. amy: it is a small bite. fred: the -- exactly. amy: can you talk about the sauce? fred: creamy garlic. amy: is it based on sour cream

caesar dressing. perfect with that. amy: oh, my gosh, hard to take our eyes off the lobster rolls. fred: a couple things about this that you will not find at any fast lobster roll or back in season type of thing. this is fresh lobster. if you can take a look, there are big chunks in their and i use the tail meat. the key is to not use too much mayonnaise. use good mayonnaise. not to say a namebrand, but a local brand, all-natural, and that is what i use. a little bit of lemon juice. don't overdo the mayonnaise. i took some small rolls, grill them on this griddle. real butter.

amy: an annual labor day tradition kicked off this morning at the pease international tradeport. it was the 20th running of the st. charles children's home road race. abilities on a certified course around pease. its an important fundraiser for the great work of the st. charles childrens home, providing behavioral treatment to children that allows them to better integrate into their school systems. >> i think it is important because they do wonderful work with the community. we picked u-- they have the run for god also and we picked up one of their bracelets. it is nice to do faith in doing something good for the community as well.
