sean: a lot of folks wanted hermine to come to new england and dropped some rain. we are getting a little bit. it all helps. josh: it all heavens. we got .06 of rain in portsmouth. people are excite the about it. we were happen to see it. it was a light, steady drizzle in parts of southern new hampshire. that's why it certainly was noticeable if you were awake. that certainly helps. youan over the southern part of the state. and, you know, a lot of people are screaming out at it. they are saying, hey, don't go away. they are sort of right now drizzling and drying up. more could be on the way. right here the center of hermine sitting and spinning to the south. that could spin a few more showers in the direction as we go through the day today and tomorrow as you can see. it is not forecast to

that's when we find ray brewer with what we know about the case this morning. good morning, ray. ray: good morning, sean. what we know unfortunately at this point is very little. we're at the intersection of milky way and caramel drive in danville. you can see the headlight and also the crime scene tape. at the point, the attorney general's office will only confirm they are investigating a suspicious death at the address. athi about how the person might have died or whether or not the victim was male or female. we do hope to learn more information later today. reporting live in danville, ray brewer, wmur news 9. sean: this morning we're waiting to learn more about a suspicious death in dunbarton. 38-year-old wendy tefft died. her manner of death is unclear.

said whether anyone has been arrested or whether they are looking for a suspect. erin: today calling hours are scheduled for a leading veterans advocate in new hampshire. griffin dalianis passed asquare last thursday after a lengthy battle with an illness. calling hours are today from 4:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home in nashua. funeral services will be tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. dalianis was 73. sean: we're continuing to follow the latest on post tropical storm hermine. they didn't see much action, warnings and watches are in place throughout new england. in new hampshire a high surf advisory is in effect. conditions along the seacoast are expected to worsen today. visitors will not be allowed to swim in the water. this decision only happens once every three or four years. >> we lost --

hampton beach will be totally restricted. not allowed. sean: the beach itself will remain open. life guards on patrol to keep people out of the water. erin: it is a big day for students. many have gone to class. students in district will head back today. across the country close to 50 million student wills attend public schools this fall. that's slightly more than last year. that's a slight drop. the average cost is $659. a middle schooler $757. it goes up to $1,500 for high schoolers. sean: a fire at the resort in laconia is under investigation. it started in one of the secondary buildings. they were able to put up most of the flames with fire extinguishers.

uninhabitable. right now a 47-year-old man is recovering after he amputated his foot. it happened on highland street. an ambulance was sent to the scene just before 4:00 on monday afternoon. no word on the current condition or if his foot was able to be saved. erin: new details now police arrest a man in connection to the theft with a tip jar from a portsmouth diner. christopher mcphee of dover misdemeanor charge for taking $60 out of the jar last week. surveillance video shows him picking up his foot and taking money from the tip jar. police say that he turned himself in over the weekend. still ahead, commitment 2016 coverage, the candidates are back on the campaign trail in swing states today. one candidate received a big endorsement over the weekend. the latest on the race

erin: firefighters spent the night making sure a fire there does not reignite. they evacuated the area. it took hours. complicated the effort, two hydrants were not working. crews had to lay down around 2,000 feet of fire hose. a connecticut day care was shut down after more than $1 million worth found in the backyard. police in west haven found 600 plants, some as tall as ten feet. state inspectors found the marijuana growing in the backyard during a check and called police. police found a newly built fence at the home that kept the marijuana plants hidden. no arrests have been made yet. suspects face several felony charges, including risk of injury to a minor and operating a drug factory.

here's a look at the current temperatures. warmer than yesterday. a touch more humid. the humidity levels will continue going up through the day today and the next several days. here's a snapshot. you'll see we head up near 60 degrees today for dewpoint. higher the next couple of days. it will be much more humid and the heat will be turning up as well. so as we go through wednesday, thursday, friday look for humid conditions and hotter as well. concord today. we may just hit that right square on the nose with 76 degrees. we'll put that on the five-day forecast, seven-day forecast for today. that will be about the average. if you are farther to the southeast, it will be cooler. farther to the north and west it will be warmer. we're looking and letting you take it in here. we haven't seen this in a while. green on the radar and rain in extreme southern new hampshire from

south ward. there were light showers. more throughout the day today, tonight, and tomorrow as well as hermine just sits there, spinning and turning and ever so slightly around the area. not moving a lot now that it is sort of found its place, found its groove right here and not going to move a lot from there. we'll show you the high surf advisory that are in effect because of hermine. five to ten foot waves and dangerous rip currents are a possit be any swimming allowed in a lot of locations. tropical storm warnings in effect. these are the current wind gusts going on in the last 20 minutes or so. you can see it is not as high as it was yesterday. yesterday wind gusts as high as 60 miles per hour. we're being clocked in the regions. today not quite as bad. they are going to have a rough surf as well. 65 mile per hour winds.

nearly hurricane strength. that would be 74 miles per hour or higher. it won't do that. but it will just sit there and not really go anywhere. finally we get to wednesday. it begins to fall apart and full away through the day. a closer look showing the chance for more scattered showers. sprinkles or drizzle at times today, tonight, and into tomorrow. you get the idea. esal both today and tomorrow the farther north and west you head the warmer those temperatures will get. for today look for the temperatures to top off in the 70's. as i mentioned, 76 for concord. there it is. lower 70's toward the seacoast, and near 80 in western and northern new hampshire. clouds and sun. scattered showers. for tomorrow about the same but warmer and more humid. the heat and humidity starts to take over.

taking part in the riding club horse show on friday. her family says she will be remembered as a happy little girl with a spitfire personal by. calling hours from 5:00 to 8:00 tonight. a grave side service will be held tomorrow morning at woodstock cemetery. sean: a third death has been reported. a south carolina man was killed when he was hit by a car wile trying on the highway. a truck driver was killed when powerful winds ticked over the 18 wheeler. and in florida, a man died after being hit by a falling tree. now the remnants of hermine are prompting more warnings here in new hampshire today. there will be rough surf and strong rip tides. because of this, swimming won't be allowed at hampton beach. the warning is not stopping surfers are making advantage of the larger waves. they will keep hanging

is gone. >> surf in new england. you wait for the september. you wait for the storms. i've been tracking the storm for 18 days now. >> we were down here two nights ago. nothing. a couple of days it is going to be a surfers dream. obviously that's the case. sean: they will be patrolling the beach to keep swimmers out of the water today. erin: new on "daybreak," a hiker is recovering after being air lifted off of mt. washington. fish and official 60-year-old donald thomson suffered a leg injury. carrying him out was too difficult for rescuers. a dhart helicopter was called in to get him out of the mountain and to a hospital. sean: they are investigating a deadly motorcycle crash. it happened around 4:15 yesterday afternoon near the rochester country club. it appears that the harley-davidson was heading south when it veered off of the road and hit the guardrail.

the operator was killed in the crash. his passenger, 40-year-old leona ran ade was taken to the hospital. erin: a marine patrol says 23-year-old was stopped yesterday afternoon when another jetski hit her while traveling about 15 miles per hour. co w injury. no one else was hurt. sean: state police are on the lookout for a pembroke man that led them on a chase. the chase started yesterday morning when troopers pulled over 29-year-old jacob jason for a motorcycle. shortly after being stopped, he took off. he eventually hit some stop sticks before crashing on the exit 13 off ramp and taking off on foot. anybody with information

police. erin: voters across the state will cast their ballots in new hampshire's primary one week from today. this is the last day to register with the secretary of state. you can still register to vote on election day. you'll have to show an approved voter i.d. or sign an affidavit, have your picture taken, and verify your i.d. with the secretary of state. there's an exemption for voters who have religious objections to being business zest weekend in labor day history. officials estimate visitors spent about $88 million during they stay. properties across the state say they were booked way in advance with travelers from all 50 states and across the globe. >> the woods, the scenery, the nature. the possibility of seeing a bear and moose. all kinds of stuff. just relaxing. >> it was beautiful.

>> something like that. to know it is gone forever because someone chose to go up and knock the rock over is wrong. erin: once identified, the people responsible will face hefty fines and possibility criminal charges. sean: now that school is back in session, there are growing concerns over the spread of super lice. the bugs have built up a tolerance to drugs and can no longer be eliminated with chemicals. last year 25 states were impacted by the drug-resistant lice. every state has them. erin: a man in virginia is trying to provide comfort to children with disabilities. bob norris makes leg braces for dolls. they are typically made for the american girl dolls and cost between $50 to $60 a pair. he says it makes him about five hours to make each pair. norris sells the doll braces on his etsy shop. he's working with a

sean: turning now to sports, the red sox took on the padres. drew was back for the first time. adam goes deep for a blast. in the top of the eighth, chris young hit a solo homer, his seventh of the year. that's all the offense they would get. the last place padres went on to win -- season finale here. they said thank you to the ollie the bat dog. the 8-year-old retriever is retiring after spend the last six seasons catching bats. they took on the portland sea dogs. new hampshire was down 1-0. fisher cats ended up winning 3-1. they finished the season with 69 wins and 73 losses ending their --

erin: runners and walkers of all abilities took part in the 5k run. yesterday was the 20th running of the st. charles children's home road race. it is an important fundraiser which provides behavioral treatment to children that allows them to better excel -- integrate. >> i think it is important. we picked up some of the we picked up one of their bracelets. it is nice to do faith and doing something good for the community as well. erin: the event has raised more than $150,000. another charity run was held at storyland yesterday. this was the scene at the annual labor day fun run hosted by memorial hospital in north conway. this race is part of the hospital's let's go initiative to reduce childhood obesity.

one through 12 took part in the event. sean: a new study shows the typhoons that slam into the land have gotten stronger since the 1970's. the study found that asian typhoon has increased by about 12% in the nearly four decades. the change is most noticeable with category four and five storms. since 1977 they've gone from a once-a-year to four times a year. strengthening to warmer water near the coast. much of the asian coast water has warmed by 1 hundredth 4 degrees since the late 1970's. warm water provides the fuel for the storms. there you go. this is a logic there. josh: yeah, you can't have a hurricane without water temperatures at least 80 degrees. isn't that interesting? it is very major factor. that's part of the reason the storms fall apart. there's no more warm

tropical storm or a post tropical storm to the south. that means used to be a tropical storm. the temperatures in the 50's and 60's, warmer and more humid out there. and the storm here's something good bringing some light rain to the southern new hampshire region. we all need rain. it is most needed in southern new hampshire. south eastern new hampshire in the worse shape. but some of those showers even we'll take anything. there's the chance there could be more through the day today. notice there was some overnight and a little bit of a lull. more has begun to crop up. some light showers and drizzle at the moment. we could see a shower really at any time. the best chance is in southern new hampshire today. it is possible they could drift farther north as well and more tonight and tomorrow as well. there it is. there's hermine. notice how just kind of sitting and spinning.

doing that over the next few days. pause of that -- that's the biggest effect is the choppy seas. we have a high surf advisory. dangerous rip currents are likely through the day today and the tropical storm warning in southern new hampshire the cape and the islands down through long island and parts of new jersey and new york as well. they are closer to the storm, of course. the winds have calmed a little bit. yesterday they had winds up near 60 miles per hour and lots down in southern parts of massachusetts, connecticut, rhode island, long island. the wilds are better today. what are the current stats of the storm itself? it is still sitting to itself. that is strong. you just need winds to be 43. why is it not a tropical storm? it is because it lost its tropical characteristics.

this side. it is symmetrical all the way around. it is not a perfect circle. it's no longer a tropical storm. it is still a strong storm. that's why it is called a post tropical storm. look at it spinning and spinning. the next couple of days here's late wednesday night and thursday morning. it finally begins to fall apart. a couple of days now we'll see it just to the south. the only affects will be breezy at times and scattered showers. notice the temperatures will be and north. tonight more showers are a possibility. then we do it all over again tomorrow. tomorrow will be warmer though. wreaks of sun in the north western and northern parts of the state. tomorrow it will be 75 to 80 with some scattered showers elsewhere. here's your highs for today. lowest temperatures in south eastern new hampshire. lower 70's. higher temperatures around 80 in the upper valley and places to the north as well. so mid 70's on average. tomorrow warmer with
