sean: good morning. i'm sean mcdonald. we'll get you caught up. first, it was a drizzle as i walked in. seems like we're in a pattern right now. hayley: we're stuck in it. it is good. there hasn't been a lot of rain. we'll continue to have the pattern for another day or two days. this morning, we have fog along with the drizzle. it is reducing visibility down below a mile or lebanon and berlin and rochester about two visibility be careful on your way into work and school. temperatures in the 50's. 60's elsewhere. it is relatively mild morning here. and muggy too. you can see on the satellite and radar clouds and also some of the scattered showers and drizzle mainly just to the south of the manchester area. at any time today and anywhere in the state, we run the risk of seeing scattered showers. just a murky day with temperatures in the 70's

in the wmur studios. ray brewer with a wrap up of the event. ray: good morning, sean and erin. all of the republican candidates hold office. last night they tried to solidify the name recognition and where they stand on state issues. the republican candidates agreed on a few key topics, like supporting donald trump and not supporting a state minimum wage. >> should new hampshire have a minimum wage? >> >> no. >> no. ray: differences were drawn on issues like the death penalty, common core, and mental health background checks to buy a gun. >> the problem that we have with the mental health list is it opens up a whole world of confusion and privacy when it comes to who is classified as mentally ill. >> i've been adjudicated. they should be put on the list. we have someone in the city of manchester that shot two police

list, they wouldn't have been able to buy a gun. >> i have endorsed every term i swerved in the nra. we have to be careful about what we do with mental health records. >> mental illness is not a crime. they shouldn't be forfeiting the rights because of the illness. >> it sparked a debate. >> i'm surprised you wouldn't want to use all of the tools available as governor to make sure we end this in the toolbox here in manchester. >> i don't think so. >> i think, senator, when you talk about what are we going to do -- >> what are you going to do? >> senator, i know you are much more respectful than that. ray: immigration to the state another hot topic. >> governor, i say yes to immigration. i say also we need to make sure we have a proper vetting process. >> when i went up to the governor's council and

asked for a moratorium on ref refugees. you didn't do it. >> it has nothing to do. ray: they were divided on appealing or amending the new hands-free driving law and if they think the two-year term should be longer. live in the studio, ray brewer. erin: thank you. no fireworks in the democratic debate. van ostern, and mark con ley didn't go on the attach. marchand is the only candidate who would legalize marijuana and use the tax proceeds to pay for more state services. >> i am the progressive choice. i'm the only one that voted for bernie.

education, it is a much different viewpoint of what we need to grow our economy and our state. >> one thing we didn't touch on tonight but i'm proud of the record of fiscal responsibility. one of my missions is for folks to start using the word and. you can be the most fiscally responsible and have the most aggressive values. i think i demonstrated that tonight. sean: our debates the candidates for senator and on thursday the second congressional candidates and on friday the first congressional candidates. erin: both donald trump and hillary clinton are stepping up attacks. clinton spoke with voters in florida while trump spent the day in north carolina. now there's less than three weeks into potentially game-changing moment. that's the first presidential debate.

hayley: good morning, new hampshire. ten minutes past 5:00. the fog looks okay there. in other spots, it is thick. be careful. we have scattered showers and drizzle. it's murky and muggy day. i'll talk about when we'll finally see some more sunshine ahead. sean: new this morning, a single vehicle accident leaves one woman dead. it happened around 9:30 last night on pope r it appears 64-year-old francine was leaving a driveway when the vehicle sped across the road and hit a large rock. she was not wearing a seat belt and passed away at the scene. the cause is under investigation. erin: crews were on the scene investigating a suspicious death. they were collecting

of the house. they are not releasing the victim's name, her ex-husband is. he says that he and joanne boucher built the house together. caulder died friday at the hospital. she was recently helping with a construction projects at an injury firefighter's home. >> if anybody needs help, the caulder family will step up. it is reciprocal. we're here for them at

sean: the online obituary describes her as a happy little girl who taught herself to ride a tricycle when she was two. right now it is 5:13. coming up, the last victim of the orlando nightclub shooting is out of the hospital. how they will help those injured in the attack. erin: the new school didn't last long. the big announcement from a david was proud to be an american soldier. there is not a day that i don't think about david. when i saw donald trump attack another gold star mother, i felt such a sense of outrage. "she was standing there, she had nothing to say..." if donald trump cannot respect a gold star family, then why would anyone in america think he would respect them.

count. sean: the lassie are maining patient still hospitalized after a mass shooting at pulse nightclub in orlando went home. they treated 35 patients and completed 76 operations. last month the hospitals announced they will not bill the survivors. in june, a gunman opened fire killing 49 people. erin: a boom has vermont maple producers worried about the next harvest. the caterpillar feeds on sugar maples and white ash, damaging the trees that are critical to maple production. two counties in vermont have reported the first outbreak in ten years. outbreaks can last two to six years. sean: i.t.t. is shutting down all of its campuses. it is part of the

you need the headlights on too. the sun hasn't come up yet. you can see there are scattered showers and light drizzle moving up the 93 and route 3 corridor. you might need the wind shield wipers on top of dealing with the fog that we have out there this morning. take a look to the south here. you see the thing spinning? this is still what's left of hermine. are you done hearing about her? she needs to move on out of here. that's not going to happen. it is just spinning like occasionally pin wheeling in the scattered showers. we need something to finally come out of the west and kick it on out of here. that will happen, but it is going to take a little while. this is the driving force that will eventually get hermine out of here. it is a cold front. you see where it is located back into the great lakes region. we have another couple of days where we'll have weather under the influence of hermine here. visibility greatly reduced in a lot of spots. you see the one-mile

portsmouth and manchester. there's an advisory posted until 10:00 this morning. temperatures they are definitely mild for this time. 60 degrees in manchester. 66 in portsmouth. 65 in rochester. in the north country, that's where you are in the 50's. but on top of the heat that we've got going on right now, the warmth, you can see that the humidity levels are high. wherever you have dewpoints running in the mid 60's, that means it feels uncomfortable and sticky. the bad news is it is about to increase. the dewpoint is going up. it is going to feel borderline oppressive tomorrow before we start to get some relief by the end of the week and into the weekend. here's hour by hour. it is going to happen today. really at any time and anywhere there's a chance of showers and drizzle. it is going to be one of the murky days. very similar to yesterday. we may try to break out and see some sunshine

new hampshire. tomorrow will be another similar day with scattered showers and some breaks of sunshine in the clouds. finally thursday night that cold front moves through and may bring a few thunderstorms. that will clear us out and get us back to some sunshine for friday and the weekend. scattered showers, muggy, and temperatures in the 70's by the seacoast, but warmer when you get inland especially up north and in western new hampshire. temperatures will be into the 80's there. here's a look at the next few days. tomorrow thunderstorms. then we break out and get sun. look at the temperatures, you guys. maybe near 90 on friday. so it is going to be quite warm. then finally by the end of the weekend and next week we get back to more september-like weather. a little bit more comfortable. less humid. erin: foggy this morning. hayley: it is. tough to see. erin: we want to check in with ray brewer on the top stories.

particularly many people in the state don't know who you are. with three democratic candidates for governor almost entirely unknown to voters, this was a critical debate for making first impressions. steve marchand called himself the progressive candidate in the lace. >> i'm the only one that voted for bernie. i'm against the northern path and d ray: van ostern touted his endorsement. >> i've been endorsed by all democratic lawmakers in the state of new hampshire. ray: mark conley favors a more aggressive tempo. >> my plan is to get them meeting every week. ray: marchand says he would legalize and tax marijuana.

the need for more money. if you want things that matter, you have to pay for them. ray: as for the state's rapidly aging population, conley wants more immigration. >> we're the second oldest growing state in america. the only meaningful job and population growth will be 65 and older. we have the lowest birthrate in america. when i look at immigration in terms of what we are as a people and county, we need to welcome immigrants into the state. ray: van oster rail project the center piece, saying it will help grow new businesses. >> i know a start-up cpo who is desperate. he wants to hire to help his company grow. ray: voter turnout could be low. colin van ostern is viewed as the front runner, they are confident the race is still in play. in the studio, ray

not a crime. as such individuals should not be forfeiting their constitutional rights because of that mental illness. erin: after the debate, the candidates spoke more about -- the using the national guard to fight the state's drug crisis, including senator forester, mentioning members working in manchester. >> we can't afford ted gastas. clearly he doesn't know what's going on in his city when he doesn't understandkn right now. to help support the drug crisis. in manchester. >> when somebody wants to misrepresent the two national guard folks in the office as statisticians, not marshal law, they aren't running around in the streets fight the the problem that is we have. they are in the office as statisticians. >> we all acknowledge that you cannot arrest your way out of this

all three legs of the three-legged stool to solve the problem which includes education, it includes treatment, and it includes law enforcement. >> the concept of militarizing the border between new hampshire and massachusetts is simply a terrible idea. this opioid crisis needs a lot of different solutions to it frankly. it is not just going to happen overnight. erin: our debates continue when the republican candidates for senate go head to head. tomorrow the congressional district con contenders will face off. on friday it is the first congressional district candidates. sean: new on "daybreak," a tractor-trailer driver is recovering after crashing his rig in woodstock. the accident happened around 2:30 yesterday afternoon on route 118. they say the rubber removal truck went off of the road and down an en bancmented. the driver was conscious and alert. he was taken to the

eight hours to clear the scene. erin: attorneys are now commenting after the girl that he sexually assaulted came forward last week. 17-year-old francesca prout spoke publicity. yesterday they released the statement saying quote it is important that the jury's verdict is accurately reported. owen was not convicted of rape. they fou felonious sexual assault. he was convicted of misdemeanor sexual assault conduct but that for the alleged victim's age would have been been lawful. sean: rochester police are investigating a deadly accident. a 70-year-old man was driving on north main street yesterday afternoon when he went off of the road and slammed into a utility pole. a woman in the car was pronounced dead at the scene. her name is not yet being released. the driver was taken to

non-life-threatening injuries. and 39-year-oldman that smith was driving when she crossed the center line and hit another vehicle. smith was pronounced dead at the scene. erin: a man charged in connection with a hit and run in laconia is due in court today. 54-year-old juan padua was arrested yesterday on charges including felony conduct after an accident. police say he hit a bicyclist at the intersection of court and fair streets on sunday and took off from the he's scheduled to be arraigned today. sean: state officials say they are hearing daily from people who are running low on water or have completely run out due to the drought. well professionals say low water pressure or discolored water are two signs you may have a problem. there could be some federal help for people with significant well problems. you have to qualify. >> there are some programs for low-income residents through the u.s. department of

rest of us could see some sunshine ahead. erin: the administration is now acknowledging it sent $1.7 billion to iran. the payments were made entirely in cash using non-u.s. currency. the money was a settlement for a decade's old arbitration claim between the u.s. and iran. an initial payment of $400 million was delivered on january 17th. the same day iran agreed to release four american prisoners. events were separate but recently acknowledge the cash was used as leverage until the americans were allowed to leave. sean: nearly three years after a tsa agent was shot and killed, a california man is admits to the crime. paul anthony pleaded guilty. under a plea deal the 26-year-old will avoid the death penalty and spend the rest of his life in prison.

killed tsa officer hernandez and wounded two others and a civilian. court documents say he was outraged that passengers faced airport security checks. erin: hurricane newton weakened to a tropical storm. the storm hit the baha peninsula yesterday as the category one with winds up to 90 miles per hour. there are no reports of any major damage. two people were killed missing when a shrimp boat capsized in the gulf of california. newton is expected to make its way to the border today with dangerous rains for arizona and new mexico. sean: dozens of animals that were seized from a farm are now available for adoption. animal advocates called this one of the worse cases of abuse they have ever seen. after more than a month, 230 animals are ready to

chickens, and horses. the animals were taken to rescue groups across the northeast. erin: a man in tennessee is accused of bulldozing his neighbor's home. it all started when john higdon said he shot at several people hiding behind his house. he was arrested for reckless conduct. while he was in jail, his neighbor knocked down his house with a backhoe. >> this man other here decide to come at he comes over here with at 2:00 in the morning with a dozer and start pushing the house down. i ain't never seen somebody push somebody's house down. i want answers and i want him to pay for the damages of what he's done. erin: the neighbor has been charged with trespassing and felony vandalism. sean: all right. let's talk sports. the red sox played a late game at san diego padres last night. in the fourth inning,

winds are very light there. here's a look at current visibilities. we're down to about a mile in rochester. other areas it is even worse than that. about a quarter of a mile in lebanon and about nine miles in concord. manchester about four miles. that will improve as we go through the morning here. there's a dense fog advisory that's been posted. it goes until 10:00 a.m. for stratford and rockingham. be careful on your way into work. you might have to slow your speed the dense fog. it could be hitting the wall. it is thick stuff like this. look at the temperatures across the state now. mainly in the 60's. it is a mild start this morning. it certainly feels muggy too. you might even need the a/c going. in the upper 60's. that indicates it is the soupy air in place. i know we need the rain. we need the rain. look at the numbers.

got .1 of an inch. we need more than what the towns have received. in fact, these are the numbers for manchester at least. this gives you a real good idea of how big of a deficit we're at, especially in the southern part of the state. in terms of how much main we need to get out of the drought, we would likely need about 15 and a half inches of rainfall. that's more t received in the entire calendar year so far. that's crazy to think about. we are not going to get much today. there are some scattered showers in southern new hampshire. this is all remnants of hermine. we need something to kick it off of the coast. that will be the cold front that moves through during the day tomorrow and into friday as well. here's the forecast today. warmest up north and in the western part of the state. we'll have high temperatures in the 80's because you guys will
