daybreak." erin: good morning, new hampshire. thanks for starting your week with us. i'm erin fehlau. sean: i'm sean mcdonald. much needed rainfall. it's a while since i heard it coming down like that in buckets. kevin: i wouldn't be surprised if they get over three inches. it has been coming down hard in southern parts of the state. lesser amounts inch of rain not out of the real of possibility. most focused of the rainfall in central and southern areas of the state. a couple of rumbles of thunder to go along with it. the back edge making its way into western parts of vermont will be crossing the state during the morning commute. 60's to start. dewpoints in the 60's with highs into the 70's. a lot drier of an afternoon. the forecast coming up. let's look at your morning ride joined live

deb: good morning, kevin. all of the heavy rain is causing significant delays. right now we're seeing some heavy delays on the everett turnpike southbound. heavy and slow on the northbound side. 93 south is stop and go traffic. in northwood, some heavy delays at 202 and route 4. in massachusetts, a serious crash on southbound at route 3 in lowell. only the right lane is squeaking by. we're seeing some significant delays through the stretch as well. from the traffic network, i'm deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. sean: thanks. topping our news, space is getting tight in concord this morning. it is not just because of a massive rescue last week. erin: shelter officials say animals continue to pour in over the weekend. their finances are running thin. ray brewer joins us now

ray: the spca shelter in concord took in 40 animals on thursday. most of those rescued from a local apartment. over the weekend they took over care for another 27 animals, including eight very sick puppy. one of those puppies, named pickle, is receiving critical care. last year the shelter took in 21 animals. this year the number is at 68. they are even using bathrooms as overflow creating a financial strain. just the number of spayings and neutering needed was expensive of the sick puppies add an extra cost. >> clearly feeding the animals is the number one priority as well as all of the medical care. anyone interested in helping are welcome to drop off any kind of supplies that you would need to clean a home or help take care of an animal. sean: now the spca did hold a

lot. other donations are coming in as well. they hope that all of the animals will be available for adoption. they are asking for patients as they handle the unusual numbers. in the studio, ray brewer, wmur news 9. erin: all right. thanks. sean: one person is dead after a motorcycle crashed on route 28 in londonderry last night. police say the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash near the restaurant just before 8:00. the road was closed for several hours because of this. the cause of the crash remains under investigation. new this morning, a teenager from new fields is recovering from serious injuries after crashing his atv in sanddown. fish and game say the teen was riding alone when he lost control in the soft sand and crashed over an embankment. they say he was wearing all of the proper protective gear. the man accused of robbing the bank of america in manchester last week is expected to

27-year-old justin brady was arrested on friday and charged with robbery. police say they think brady also cased another bank in the city and was recognized by employees there. erin: the fbi is now questioning five people in connection with the explosion in manhattan on saturday that injured 29 people. the five people were detained after a traffic stop. so far no charges have been announced. now officials want to know if there's any connection to the devices found in new rs nbc's ray ramundi reports. reporter: good morning. multiple law enforcement agencies saying the news that happened here right behind me and the one that happened in seaside park new jersey could belinged by what appear to be similar cell phones used to detonate both devices.

suspicious. ray raimundi, abc news, new york. erin: a two-day symposium to honor the life of james foley, the journalist. it is being held at the alma mater, u mass amherst. it is called the task of witnesses. he was kidnapped by isis and killed in 2014. it will begin with a screening about a documentary about his parents. sean: they plan to return to a brush fire in hooksett. they are hoping to get some help. the fire was first spotted sad afternoon. it was contained by last night. officials think the fire had likely been burning for several days. it may have been sparked by lightning or possibility a campfire. with the drought, the fire burned deep into the ground and getting enough water to douse the fire was a challenge.

locally near three inches plus of rainfall in south western sections of the state. the rainfall continues to come down, now focused in central and south eastern spots, even a couple of thunderstorms. no strong weather overnight. heavier downpours are going to lead us to a couple of areas with some ponding in area roadways. tough it drain all of that. bear that in mind as you head out. back tour in a few extra minutes. take it slower as the rainfall continues to drain i that it needs to go. beneficial rainfall. it was the heaviest and most organized of the rainfall we'll have today. a lot of what is lined up to the south, passing to the south. nonetheless southern areas of the state standing that chance of an additional shower or thundershower into the afternoon. can't rule out with a few breaks in the overcast up north that you may see an additional thundershower pop up later on today as well. heaviest of the rainfall focused from the lakes region through manchester into nashua.

the seacoast hasn't seen a tremendous amount of rainfall. that's headed in your direction. a quick inch between now and 9:00. up north we're looking at a lighter version of the heavier rainfall that's going on in southern areas. you have been better off as far as the drought situation has been concerned. the areas that have sorely needed getting it at this point. this is nothing but good news. temperatures in the 60's. dewpoints al in the 60's. temperatures themselves will get into the 70's. back into the lower hal sticking around through tomorrow. the warmth through wednesday before eventually we start to cool things off at the end of the week and certainly by the time we get toward next weekend. the heaviest of the rainfall focused just to the south may spread a few additional showers or thundershowers into southern areas for the state this afternoon. partial clearing will set up patchy fog. warm temperatures out there tomorrow. 78 to 86 from north to south. we start to cool it off. it becomes a lot less humid on wednesday.

window to arrest her. she's scheduled to be arraigned today. sean: officers say they were trying to arrest 38-year-old christopher benson when he took off running. benson is now wanted for resisting arrest. he was last seen running into the woods behind the circle k. benson was wearing yellow shorts and a black t-shirt. they believe he is in the concord area. officers say he also has ties to weare. erin: the driver accusedf pizza shop killing two people, including a derryfield school graduate is set to face a judge today. 55-year-old brad casler is facing charges of motorcycle homicide and driving to endangerer. the charges stem from a deadly accident in march in which he slammed into a restaurant in newton, massachusetts.

now. we'll see it they pick somebody up. erin: the red sox completed a four-game sweep last night. drew pomeranz got the start for the sox and spotted the yankees 4-0 lead. hanley ramirez came through again belting a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. his 27th of the season. the game was tied at four in the seventh when ramirez did it again. this time hitting a solo home run. the red sox rallied from behind to win it 5 series at baltimore tonight. sean: it is a hot back. the sprint cup chase began in chicago. a late caution caused a green/white checkered finish. martin truex jr. was strong, able to get past and hold on for the win. last the third win of the season for the 78 which qualifies him for the next round of the chase. joey logano was second, followed by chase

keslowski. next week it is here in new hampshire. erin: a man got himself into an unusual predictment. his head got stuck. the man dropped his phone in the water and tried to get it back, but ended up getting his head lodged between the rocks. firefighters worked for two and a half hours to free him. they could not use air bags, because the rocks could have shifted. they went with a different method. >> lots of olive oil did the trick. we managed to spray him down and applied a lot of olive oil. we were able to dislodge him. he was in good spirits. he's a healthy 31-year-old male. erin: the man was treated to hypothermia and a minor injury to his foot. they got him out. sean: the cdc is urging chicken owners to refrain from kissing

bacon cheeseburgers. erin: that sets you over the top. kevin: we start off with the wet highways. some spots over two to three inches of rainfall with what has come through overnight. lesser amounts farther north. the monadnock region picking up over two and a half inches of rain. we're going to continue to see it taper off over the next couple of hours. just light rain here and there through about 9:00 or 9:30. from there, it is a matter of scattered activity into the aften. temperatures today will get back into the 70's. dewpoints are in the 60's. it will be a warm and humid afternoon. partial clearing which will set up fog. mainly fair skies. the next system trying to arrive. a front on friday could make it feel autumn-like by the time we get toward the weekend. it has been rainfall and lightning and thunder overnight as well, as well some heavier downpours coming down. that's under selling it in a couple of south western spots.

notice the focus of the rest of the rainfall looks to be sliding just to the south. southern areas of the state could get in on the activity into the afternoon. up north a few breaks in the overcast could lead to a thundershower. again we'll have enough humidity in the air any sort of sunshine may develop clouds and a pop-up shower or thundershower later into the afternoon. so lighter version of the rainfall back out west and even through south western parts of the state. we've seen the heaviest of the rainfall totals. now th i eastern and south eastern spots across the state. a lot of this will be edging east over the next couple of hour. this is the next organized activity we'll have around for the rest of the day. later into the afternoon we'll have a up -- couple of scattered thundershowers. we're looking at the quieter set of circumstances. temperatures with rain-cooled air in the 60's to near 70 degree this is morning. we really aren't expecting much of an improvement in the humidity scale until sometime tomorrow
