but investigators are working to see if the link is legitimate. >> i want to know everything about the individual since the day he was born until last saturday. >> an off-duty police officer shot and killed the attacker. the victims have been released from the hospital. >> right now, president obama is in new york for a u.n. gathering. earlier today he pledged federal resources to investigate the attacks in minnesota and the northeast. >> at this point, we see no connection between that i and what happened here in new york and new jersey. >> the president said the nation is extremely fortunate that no one was killed in the recent attacks. new hampshire leaders locked in election year battles are responding to these attacks. wmur political reporter adam sexton is live with reaction. >> we're heading into the critical weeks of the election season and the attack is processed locally through a

directly answer whether they think there are more suspects like this in the united states. more on that coming up at 6:00. adam sexton, live in the newsroom, wmur news 9. >> presidential candidates reacted quickly to the attack. they had very different responses. we'll have a closer look at that just ahead. >> right now we are getting our first look at the device that caused a scare at the goodwill store in hooksett this afternoon. police were abl was an old smoke grenade that had already been detonated. it has been transferred to the state police. police say there was never any danger to the public. but anyone with information is asked to call the police. clouds over new hampshire. a quiet end to a day that started with dramatic rain. while some spots got several inches, others saw barely any

rain, you got the most. that's the good news out of this latest system going through the granite state with a few showers to continue the next few hours. look at our estimated rainfall over a good part of central and southern new hampshire. the greens indicate the highest amounts of rain close to two and a half to 3 inches, while the numbers taper off to the north and west. there are lingering showers. you can see what happened earlier in the day with the heavy downpours, scattered to clear out with showers up until 7:00 or 8:00 this evening. so we'll take a look at specific rainfalls coming up in a little bit and also let you know about the big changes that start to move in for tomorrow. again, in a few minutes. >> tonight, the department of agriculture adding grafton county to the list of primary natural disaster areas because of our drought.

bedford where growers say every drop helps. >> tom, by no means will today's rain take care of the damage that the drought has done this summer. at least today homeowners and staff at bedford fields do not need to water the plants. the gardening center says this summer has had a negative impact on business as customers have been buying fewer plants. but staff say now is a good time to plant because flowers will thrive under the fall and spring growing seasons and could survive if next year is dry summer. today's rain is not good for everyone, though. people in one concord neighborhood got an early wake-up call this morning when torrential rain caused flooding. one man's basement was under 2 feet of water. >> the motor is underneath the water. i've got televisions under water. my vacuum cleaner was floating around. i had pictures, books. >> people on vacation, they are not going to plant a bunch of

going to have a problem. it's been a tough year for us, but we'll make it through. >> the state's climatologist says this rain will moisten the soil, by it won't make much of a difference in the ground water level which feeds into the lakes and streams. reporting live in bedford, mike cronin, wmur news 9. >> right now a man accused of sexually assaulting a young woman in nashua is being held after police in new york city wmur's andy heshberger is live with more on that story. >> prosecutors called felix perez a danger to the community and asked for a high bail this morning when he went before a judge. >> felix perez faces three felony-level charges of aggravated felonious sexual assault. crimes nashua police say he committed against a young girl over the course of several

only based on the heinous nature of the offenses we're alleging occurred. the victim is 11 years old and mr. perez is 45 years old. >> court documents say perez lived in nashua between april and august. police say the sexual assaults were not random and he knew the victim. >> mr. perez was located down in the area of the bronx. he was taken into custody as a fugitive. he went to court down there. he waived ext and booked into the nashua police department. >> court documents say, as a result of the sexual assaults, the young victim became pregnant. police called the charges serious and disturbing. police say perez only faces three counts, but one of the charges alleges a pattern of sexual assault. >> based on the investigation, there's information to support a charge of pattern and basically that means mr. perez was sexually assaulting this

on multiple occasions. bail remained at $200,000 cash only. >> someone alerted officers to the apple store of an intoxicated man. the officers started lifesaving measures and called the fire department, whose e.m.t.s gave to man he was taken to the hospital. president obama is leaning on congress. the director of the office of national drug control policy met with parents at the white house today. wmur's amy coveno has the message a new hampshire couple brought to washington. >> in july, both sides celebrated the passage of c.a.r.a., the comprehensive addiction and recovery act, as a pivotal step in beating the opioid crisis. without funding, c.a.r.a. is just a theory.

>> police took ahmad rahami into custody before noon in linden, new jersey. investigators say he was shot in the exchange of gunfire with police. he was wanted after he was seen allegedly in surveillance video at the scene of the saturday night bombing in manhattan. investigators say they were also able to recover his fingerprints from the scene. at this time there's no evidence that rahami was a part of a broader terror cell. in the wake of the attacks, massachusetts police are taking heightened right now there are more patrols at transit stations, security will also be increased at the stadium for the patriots game thursday night. >> more than 850 immigrants to the u.s. were accidentally given citizenship, according to a new audit. it says the people in question didn't have their fingerprints in government databases, so agents didn't catch discrepancies in names and birth dates. officials say the immigrants don't necessarily commit any

people on the list are from countries that present national security concerns for the u.s. >> oh, yeah, beneficial rain we talked about at the top of the show. the clouds still over a good part of the lakes region in gillford, a cloudy scenario with showers at the coast as well. in terms of rainfall total, we'll get to those in a moment. look at doppler to the east of new hampshire. but there are some lingering showers over mostly southern parts of the state where we need it the most. so really good news here. more showers around the area stretching towards francestown and through manchester and auburn, getting close to merrimack. so more showers will continue for the next two, three, even four hours this evening mostly

rain. once these showers move out by late evening, we're in the clear in terms of the steady rain, but we'll start to see the low clouds and fog lingering to about daybreak tomorrow. in terms of the rain, how much has it added up to in a good part of southern and central new hampshire? josh is standing by with a look at the numbers. >> the rain totals were impressive at times, not so much yesterday, but certainly today. that is for sure. we take amounts. there they are. you can see that we had those rain totals yesterday of a couple hundredths of an inch in many locations. today, from midnight on through the day, up to the minute, you can see very impressive totals. concord, over 2 inches of rain in many spots with even 3 inches of rain like jaffrey. you put yesterday and today

the two together. it means a longer duration of rain. there are over 3 inches in jaffrey. for concord and manchester, since january 1, there's the numbers. as you can see, manchester certainly quite a ways off. and one final look at some spotter rainfall totals for you. these are some of the higher amounts. hopkinton over and also the temperatures that are lower than you might expect. if we had sunshine, we'd back into the low-to-mid 80s. dew points are 60s to around 70. so it is very humid. by tomorrow morning that dew point will drop a little bit, but then in the afternoon, with sunshine developing and a breeze, into the upper 50s, quite dry compared to where we are right now. then we get to wednesday. look at that dew point.

that means by night, it begins to cool down quite a bit. not all that chilly overnight tonight. take a look. once the sun develops tomorrow, all of this summer-like warmth moves back in our direction. two more full days of summer to go. it will feel the part before temperatures coast down for the first weekend of fall. fall officially starts on thursday. in terms of the great in the great lakes, that tomorrow afternoon. outside of that, it is going to be dry. we develop into sunshine tomorrow. mid 80s far north. still above average by 10 degrees on wednesday. thursday, for the start of fall, near 80 in southern new hampshire with increasing clouds. could be showers up north friday. a few early, early saturday morning, a good part of the weekend dry.
