i'm sean mcdonald. we're in for a nice week. everybody talking about the hurricane matthew and the whether it could end up here in new england. kevin: it is the cone of uncertainty. a lot of that centered around sunday or sunday evening. that is warming trend as yesterday we started with clouds and gave way to some sunshine. we'll do the same again today. it will be runs ten degrees cooler than yesterday. it will be with the blend of sunshine and clouds. from here, another warming trend. climb into the 60's. then we start to get back into the 70's by late in the week ahead of any potential effects. much more on that and your forecast looking toward the holiday weekend coming up. let's look at your morning ride here in the granite state joined live by deb davidson. good morning, deb. deb: good morning. we're still seeing some delays on 93 northbound from exit five to the lower 293 split in the manchester area. that's due to the road

moving okay. interstate 89 is trouble free from concord to lebanon. if you are ling into massachusetts, be aware, we are seeing unusually heavy delays from the state line all the way down to exit 43 in andover. from the wzid traffic network, i'm deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. erin: we start out here with a developing story out of barnstead. police and firefighters spent the night at the scene of a serious pyre in oxbow r from the fire department in barnstead right now. ray, we understand that one person was hurt in this; right? ray: that's right. fire captain telling me one man seriously injured. he was outside of the home when they arrived. now the fire department got the call at about 11:00 last night reporting the fire on 80 oxbow road. firefighters say when they arrived on the scene, the flames were shooting some 50 to 60 feet into the air and

home. that person taken to the hospital, injuries described as serious. firefighters say they fought the fire for about an hour and a half. there were several problems that they encountered. that's part of the reason why it went to three alarms. one of the problems of was the power line came down. firefighters fought and hard to keep the fire from spreading into the surrounding woods. they were able to do that. some of the other problems the firefighters encount supply. >> probably about on hour and a half. just with the lack of water. we were trucking water for five or six miles. ray: no firefighters were injured in fighting this fire. as far as the cause goes, well, the state fire marshal's office will be leading into that. they are expected later at the scene. live in barnstead, ray brewer, wmur news 9.

for today on the man who died at a fire in seabrook. we first told you about the fire yesterday morning. they have not released the victim's name. the state fire marshal's office is still trying to figure out how the flames started. the fire was contained to a first floor apartment and other residents of the building should be allowed back in soon. sean: hurricane matthew started pounding southern haiti overnight. the center of the storm is expected to pass near the tip within the next couple of hours with torrential rains. the powerful category 4 storm is already blamed for at least three deaths in the caribbean and the worst is yet to come with forecasters say rainfall could top three feet in some areas of haiti where more than 1,000 shelters are now open. there are also concerns about massive mud slides with a second landfall expected later this morning in eastern cuba not far from guantanamo

state of emergency with the forecast showing potential impacts along the east coast there. you could track hurricane matthew on the home page of the web site at wmur.com or by using our mobile app. and on the weather page you can learn more about hurricanes and the history of this storm. erin: the drug crisis seems to be getting worse in nashua with the gate city reporting its deadliest month for overdose this is year. seven people died in september and three more have already died in the first three days of number of overdose deaths in nashua to 50 this year. officials say they would like to launch a safe station's program. they don't have the funding or access to recovery centers. >> the reaction is shock. particularly with october, the third day of october, we've had three deaths here in nashua from overdoses. it is not acceptable. >> it is an everyday occurrence. the fire house they probably do more overdose calls than any other company in the

erin: manchester the city has reported 77 deadly overdose this is year. they responded to more than 70 -- 600 overdose calls. sean: a nashua man is accused of sexually assaulting a female acquaintance at a home in nashua. 25-year-old edward maselli was arrested on sunday after the woman reported the alleged assault. police say he tried to return when officers showed up. they also charged him with resisting arrest. a member of the coast guard has passed away after he was struck 22-year-old richard davies was hit friday morning and died on sunday. he was stationed at the portsmouth naval ship yard. they do not expect to file any charges. erin: two teachers are accused of vandalizing a new sidewalk. police in windsor, vermont, just over the river from claremont say construction crews asked abigail howard and jennifer rist to leave because the concrete was

to dry out yesterday. we should be giving way to partial sunshine and what should be a nice afternoon. low to mid 60's. coolerthat what we had yesterday. sun felt and warm yesterday. from there, after some coolish temperatures tonight, a warming trend starts tomorrow. 60's statewide. then we start to creep into the low to mid 70's to round out the week thursday and friday. from there, we're tracking matthew closely. category 4 hurricane and slowly drifting northward between haiti morning with plenty of clouds out there. breaks in the overcast. if you've seen those, chances are you have some fog to contend with temperatures starting off in the low to mid 50's. you could see a lot of real estate between us and the next system pap race is on as to whether the slow-moving front gets here before matthew continues to lift northwood. low to mid 50's. light breeze today. temperatures this afternoon getting back into the low to mid 60's. there's the gradual warming trend which we'll have through the

uniform. lower to mid 60's up north. lower to mid 60's in southern areas. likely the coolest feelings readings will be with the breeze northeast at 10-20 miles an hour. low to mid 40's for most tonight. almost nothing but sunshine going forward. tomorrow temperatures in the 60's. thursday and friday temperatures in the upper 60's to mid 70's. all of that with a big area of high pressure in advance of the next front that starts to make its way toward us. now as far ath key as this moisture continues to eventually lift northward as it moves slowly enough that front grabs it and sends it farther out to sea. if that front is slow getting here or this is faster moving in, there's the better chance we wind up with some rainfall out of the system. hurricane matthew, category 4. expected to hold that strength between cuba and haiti over the next 24 hours. it moves through the bahamas tomorrow and off of the east coast of

friday. from there, you'll notice the end of the hurricane center forecast which ends in five days which is early sunday morning has it just off of the coast of maryland. eventually trying to field from the front at exactly where it goes from there is the million-dollar question. it could mean a twelve to 18-hour round of forecast. that's something we'll keep tab on. as quiet as it sunshine going forward. possibility even into saturday for an increase in clouds moves in. from there, we're looking for the chance of rainfall. it could be a 12-18 hour brand of rain. it could have a quick three to four inches of rain coming with it before pulling away sunday night. looking breezy. assuming the timing of that holds the way the maps are thinking right now. erin: thursday and friday looking great. we want to check the top stories. for that, we start off

jurorred in an overnight fire in barnstead. the fire reported anaudia 1:00 last night. firefighters say when they arrived on the scene, they had flames shooting some 50 to 60 feet in the air. the three story wooden house fully engulfed. there was one person outside of the home. the person transported with serious injuries. no firefighters were injured in fighting the fire which took an hour and a half to get under control. erin: an autopsy is scheduled for the man who died in a fire in seabrook. they haven't released the victim's name. the state fire mar small's office is trying to fig your out how the flame started. nashua is dealing with a deadly number of drug overdoses. three people have died after seven last month, bringing the total for the year to 50. sean: coming up on "daybreak" this morning, a penny for your thoughts? how about 51,000 of them. how long it took a man

it is churning, packing winds up to 145 mile per hour. just the outer bands caused street flooding and forced evacuations. matthew is expected to dump 40 inches of rain, raising fears of deadly mud slides in the heavily deforested country. the storm is blamed for three deaths. it is too soon to tell how the east coast could be impacted. sean: the danger of hurricane matthew is hundreds of miles here in the granite state. john judy is the first haitian legislature. he's thinking about the country where he was born as they take on a catastrophic hurricane. the company hasn't recovered from an earthquake that hit six years ago killing nearly 200,000 people. >> i was talking to a friend of mine in haiti.

bank. he handed him a note. just three minutes after the description was broadcasted, an officer shotted fa ucher. they arrested him last week in connection with an attempted robbery. sean: a former stoddard firefighter will spend two and a half years in prison. as part of t bargain, he will no longer be allowed to be associated with any fire department. erin: a man accused of stabbing and carjacking in nashua has been found not competent to stand trial. back in april, jonathan calvin stabbed a woman, stole her car, and lead police on a chase that ended in the massive crash. a hillsborough county judge ordered he be admitted to the psych psychiatric unit.

clowns have been found here in new hampshire. in massachusetts, a shelter in place order was issued at merrimack college last night after a staff member saw a tweet about an armed person dressed as a clown roaming around campus. one building was evacuated. they did not find any gun-toting clowns and a college spokesperson now says it was a false report. many people are talking about the clown sightings on our facebook page this morning. rebecca writes everyone is getting so worked up about people walking around in clown costumes. get a grip. roy writes i predict clown costumes will be banned from hall le wean in the near future. why is this a big deal? people walking around looking like clowns have been happening for years. you could tell us your thoughts by leaving a comment on our facebook page. erin: classes where resume at a school in texas. the bat problem was first noticed last week. officials sent out an

it will be cooler out there through the afternoon. low and mid 60's. light wind out of the northeast. more of a breeze as you get closer to the shoreline into the afternoon. fair skies going forward. at least from friday and likely extending into saturday as well. big area of high pressure in control. the front back out to the west slowly edging toward us. a lot of moisture to the south. a category 4 hurricane approaching haiti right now. temperatures are in the 50's. fairly consistent across the area. we should be in the low to mid 60's. a little bit of fog to get through. the low clouds and patchy fog giving way to partial sunshine. there will be a few areas that hang on to the clouds for quite a bit of the day. other areas will dry out. we'll get sunshine for a good part of the afternoon. in general, low to mid 60's through the day with a light breeze out of the northeast except at the shoreline. you'll be cooler later on this afternoon with the wind off of the ocean. from there tonight,

there with fair skies. tomorrow a good deal of sunshine around. we're up into the 60's. we'll be in the upper 60's to mid 70's with sunshine for thursday and friday. seemingly headed well into the holiday weekend. again that front approaches from the west slowly while we continue to watch the moisture to our south build northwood and all of this in response to a slow-moving category 4 hurricane which as you can see the eye starting to make its w haiti. most of the forecast holds the strength. it isn't going to be affected by much land mass here until it gets through the bahamas. as you'll notice, a weak trend. likely still a major hurricane off of the east coast of florida sometime later thursday afternoon and thursday evening. as the hurricane center stops the projected forecast at the end of day five, that's sunday morning. this is likely off of the coast of north carolina. the effects for us from there all depend on the

will try to give it a push, shove eastward. it f it moves, it will likely not get here in time. if it does, it will have a tendency to push it away. what we're looking at the potential after 12-18 hour band of rain. that's centered on saturday night or sunday before pulling away sunday night into monday. temperatures ahead of that over the next few days continue to warm up. lower half of the 70's. you get beyond day three or day four. it is a difficult forecast to predict. i'm assuming i'll get a question on this tonight at the exeter historical society. i'm doing a presentation tonight. the talk starting at 7:00. this is a first come, first serve type event with limited seats available. get there this evening in exeter starting at 6:30. sean: that will be fun. all right.

sean: as usual. new kids on the block concert. erin: october is national breast cancer awareness month. the enfield police department is showing its support. all of the month officers will be wearing the pink badges to show their support for breast cancer patients, survive survivors, and research. sean: some hotel guests in texas are getting a spooky vibe this halloween. the owners of the magnolia hotel are convinced it is haunted. the second floor has no air conditions. in several areas, they can feel cold spot and smell the odor of a strong perfume. during an interview, they heard stomps noises and whistling. >> did you hear that? >> he's knocking. he heard it. that's him. we're under his -- >> there's nobody upstairs. >> did you hear it? >> did you hear it?

ray: the fire was reported about 11:00 last night. firefighters say when they arrived at the scene, the three story house was fully engulfed. flames shooting 50 to 60 feet in the air. there was one person outside of the home. that man was taken to the hospital. injuries described as serious. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. sean: nashua is dealing with a record number of deadly drug overdoses. three people have died already this m total so far this year to 50. erin: police in several new hampshire communities have been investigating reports of clown sightings. there were reports last night that a person was walking around the u.n.h. campus dressed as a clown and using a megaphone. they did not find anything suspicious. kevin: blanket of clouds overhead this morning giving way to partial sunshine. some areas will be quick. you may have to wait until early to mid afternoon. beginning of the warming trend. we get up into the low to mid 70's, increase in
