community coming together tonight. how you can help the island nation as it starts cleaning up. >> tracking higher temps for the next few days and of course, what the latest track means for hurricane matthew. our weekend weather . >> commitment 2016. the first and only debate for we have the highlights. >> no one covers new hampshire like we do. >> we begin with hurricane matthew. the eye of the storm has made landfall over cuba. this is haiti and the dominican republic as they begin to clean up.

north, southern states are preparing as fema is deploying personnel to several states. the storm could make landfall in florida as early as tomorrow and a hurricane watch has been issued for the sunshine state. with winds reaching 145 miles per hour, florida governor rick scott is telling people to prepare for the worse and not to take hurricane matthew lightly. >> if matthew directly hits florida there will be massive destruction that we haven't seen in years. >> this is nothing something that we want to play with. and the other thing i would tell everyone is if you don't get out in time, you might actually get stuck and i think that's worst case scenario is to be stuck on the coast and have no place to go because you didn't meet the evacuation time. chris: -- >> and in south carolina, the governor just issued a state of emergency. governor nikki haley is planning to issue an evacuation order tomorrow to give one million people time to safely leave. let's now take a look at the latest track of hurricane matthew. chief meteorologist mike haddad has been following it closely

chris: mike: chris: we have been tracking the trends over the 12 hours or so. they have been shifting to the east. what does that mean? sustained winds have come down to 140 miles per hour. it is at the minimal criteria for a 4 storm. notice how it approaches the east coast of florida. it approaches jacksonville and then begins to turn to the northeast. right now the latest track suggests it will be farther south and east of new england. that means less of an impact if any for new hampshire. still only tuesday.

it is could still change a bit. more straight ahead. tom: the potential effects of hurricane matthew are unclear. tonight the american red cross wants people to think about getting prepared just in case it does impact us. my joins us from the red cross in manchester with more on how they are getting ready. mike: the red cross will send volunteers to affected areas in the netted states. blood. >> hurricane matthew is pounding the caribbean and still hundreds of miles away from new england. it is unclear if the impact will be felt in the granite state. state agencies are preparing just in case. >> we are already into our 100 20 hour cycle where we start to call down our list of volunteers.

the red cross says now is the time to prepare. he advised people to stay informed of the forecast and have necessities in the house. >> have a weeks worth of medication set aside. you have a gallon of water for every person per day to make sure that there is enough water to drink. >> if the worst comes our way we will be ready for it. reporter: state monitors are managing the appropriate preparations. >> i have directed stay agencies to put emergency preparedness into place. we will have a conference call about thursday. that is when we will have the most up-to-date information. reporter: the red cross is asking people to consider donating blood. severe weather could cancel blood drives across the southeast. >> mobilizing this amount of

on with loved ones in haiti. >> it is an agonizing wait to hear if their prayers are answered -- >> we are getting calls from people telling us they cannot reach their loved ones in haiti . reporter: nearly everyone here has family members there. >> we are waiting on my nephew and cousins. reporter: carl was born in haiti and survived the 2010 earthquake when he was 11 years old. earthquake, our school was destroyed. reporter: he wants to help his grandmother and cousins in haiti. >> i will do the best i can hear. just like they did after the earthquake. they would like to collect donations and send them for

everyone to support us. it is a time of need for haiti. we are haitian le living in this community. reporter: the church welcomes donations of food, clothing and money along with prayers of support to so send home to haiti. shelley: about the day of haiti fundraiser plan for this saturday in manchester and the latest track of hurricane matthew can log into our website, wmur.com. tom: we now know the name of the man killed in a fire in seabrook. 63-year-old george winn died from smoke inhalation. winn was found dead inside an apartment on lafayette road yesterday morning. the state fire marshal's office says the fire was accidental and

shelley: now to the state route. two more towns have declared mandatory water restrictions as part of the state is suffering from an extreme drought. people must cut back. wmur's kristen pope talk to folks in both towns and explains the fines you may face if you break the ban in pelham. reporter: the town is one of two places that activated it water restriction. you will see the guidelines poed supposed to do. to start, don't water your lawn. town officials say there is more at stake than keeping your grass green as we face an extreme drought. >> you can't take a shower. you can't brush your teeth. you can't do anything. reporter: to prevent this they are mandating situations to restrict water.

but he understands the bigger picture. >> everyone wants to have the nicest lawn but we have been talking to each other. everyone is in the understanding that it must be kept to a minimum. water conservation is important. >> if we don't get significant rain this could extend into the winter time into the holiday season. that is the concern. reporter: one man heard about it for the first time from news 9. reporter: one man heard about it for the first time from news 9. needs confirmation. >> i will have to check the city tomorrow and find out. that is what i can say. reporter: if you are caught, first you will get a written warning. more offenses could get a fine of $1000. he says despite the conditions he is hoping for the best. >> we got a hurricane coming up.

, wmur news 9. tom: a man facing charges for a deadly crash in new durham. a grand jury indicted 22-year-old christopher riley on two counts of negligent homicide for the deaths of lynwood and sally carter of dover. court documents say riley was under the influence of drugs when he allegedly crashed into the carters in 20-15. lynwood died at the scene and injuries. shelley: and 25-year-old jeannette hardy of manchester could face a life sentence after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl and heroin. back in 20-15, manchester police found more than 3 pounds of fentanyl in a home after responding to a shooting. officers also found more than $700,000 between the home, a safe deposit box and a storage unit.

tom: now to commitment 2016, the vice presidential nominee took the stage together for the first-time. shelley: it was the first and only debate for the two. wmur's aixa diaz is live outside the debate hall with tonight's highlights. aixa, what stood out? reporter: both vice presidential candidates touted their credal running mates, and attacked the other side. in a sit-down, side-by-side debate, tim kaine and mike pence attacked the candidates at the top of each other's ticket, >> you can't have someone at the top who demeans everyone he talks about. >> hillary clinton called half of donald trump supporters deplorables. >> his tax returns show he went

closer to knowing what caused the deadly train crash in new jersey. investigators have recovered a data recorder, a video recorder and the engineer's cellphone. the ntsb says they expect that the recorders will be able to provide speed information, throttle positions and braking system information. one person was killed and more than 100 were injured in the crash. shelley: as florida prepares for hurricane matthew, the state is now concerned that the zika virus might spread. governor rick scott says florida could start to feel the hurricane's impact in tw three days. the threat of heavy rains has scott warning residents that the zika virus might spread. >> regardless of direct impact, we expect matthew to bring heavy rain to coastal communities. it's incredibly important that every does their part to combat zika. you do that by getting rid of standing water. any amount of standing water could serve as a breeding ground for mosquitos,. reporter: according to florida's health department, 20 new cases

cone of uncertainty. that is being pushed southward. mike: it is. the computer models have been shifting all day. it started this morning. the trend is farther to the east. that is good news for new hampshire but not great news. it track somewhere in the middle. what if we dodged wind but w there is a chance we don't know exactly what will happen. we are not locked in just yet. it was a fairly nice afternoon across new hampshire as clouds did give way to developing sunshine and temperatures ran at the average. a beautiful sunset out there. clear skies right now, back into the 40's.

upper 30's and lower to mid 40's. that change is coming. even though temperatures are not that dramatic a cool off in the northern rock is. as the disturbance builds then out to see, spit -- southeast of new england. will that be shortly after that late saturday night, early sunday. the odds favor a southerly track. more on matthew in a moment. clear skies developing. fog will develop in the early mornings.

we will top off a little bit above the average. here is an update on matthew. you can see the thunderstorm activity that was quite expansive. it is kind of consolidated. the wind is still fairly potent. down from 140 miles per hour this evening. several computer models. this is the classic spaghetti chart. by thursday afternoon, early evening it takes aim along the east coast of florida. will it make landfall or stay offshore? that is in question. after friday afternoon it will

influenced by a system building and from the ohio valley. most computer models drive that system away. it acts as a kicker and booted out to sea. still a few days out and that could change. the latest track from the national hurricane center has a battering. it is taking a month florida. will see little if any impact on new hampshire. hopefully it works along the mid-part so we get some beneficial rain. without it we will get a couple of scattered showers. it clears out and cools down sunday into monday.
