hampshire like we do. now wmur "news 9 daybreak." erin: good wednesday morning. thank for starting your day with us. i'm erin fehlau. sean: good morning. all of the talk about matthew to the south. here we have nice weather. kevin: all of the bad weather to the south. that leaves us with one front assuming matthew doesn't most of the tracks keep it well to the south at the present time from the national hurricane center. area of high pressure settling in. cooler start to the day. upper 30's to mid 40's. this is 15 degrees cooler than we started yesterday with. a lot of sunshine after fog burns off. highs in the 60's could push 70 in a couple of southern spots. much more coming up. let's look at your morning ride here in the

they haven't been able to reach the western flood. sean: parts of south carolina are expected to flood. the national guard has been activated. following the dangerous storm. reporter: overnight preparing for direct impact. officials sounding the alarm as hurricane matthew puts the u.s. in its bull's eye. >> this is very serious. you need to prepare and protect you and your reporter: people from the florida keys to north carolina boarding up their homes and filling up their cars. at this gas station, there's only premium left. >> it is a mad house. >> i don't have a choice. i got to get a willing to get me to the next station. reporter: drivers are waiting in line for more than an hour. this is what grocery stores look like this morning up and down the coast, empty shelves as people stock up on the essentials. s governors of four states, florida,

emergency. >> if you are able to leave early and go today, do that. don't take a chance. reporter: evacuations begin in north carolina. they closed the coast and ordered more than one million people to get away. reporter: farmers are fearful. >> it has the potential to d the good lord is going to do. we have to keep the faith. reporter: abc news, new york. sean: there's a strong haitian community here in new hampshire. many of them are trying to reach loved ones in haiti. >> we are nervous. we are worried about the family. we are here to support. time of need. we are haitian living here.

fundraiser to collect food, money, and clothing. they are not the only ones preparing aid. ray brewer here to explain how the local red cross is getting ready. ray: any direct impact is unclear. we may not get any at all. the red cross is still getting busy. they are urging people to keep a close eye and prepare just in case. the bigger focus is down south where the impacts are expected to be severe. local volunteers are to help with recovery efforts. they need your help, asking eligible donors to give blood as soon as poll. >> realizing this many people and especially this swath of area being affected, it may need a lot of resources that the red cross uses. donate, if they can. >> i've directed state agencies to start putting emergency preparedness measures into place.

ray: the red cross is urging people to check on their loved ones. you can download the emergency app to get important information wherever severe weather hits. in the studio, ray brewer, wmur news 9. sean: thanks. a man accused of trying to kill a boston police officer is due in court today. a man one officer was shot. it was not injured because he was hit in his bullet proof vest. one suspect was arrested. he wasn't tracked down until after a five-hour manhunt. erin: investigators say a deadly fire in seabrook earlier this week was caused by the improper disposal of smoking materials. the state fire marshal's says george winn died from smoke inhalation.

early monday morning. a manchester woman could face up to life in prison after admitting to selling fentanyl and heroin. 25-year-old jeanette hardy was arrested. they found $765,000 in cash between the house, safe deposit box, and storage unit along with drugs. she will be sentenced in january. sean: the election is paper ballots over computers. according to the new poll, 83% of new hampshire residents say they are confident their paper ballot was counted. they did not use the computerized voting machines only 52% of those polled say they trust such machines. secretary of state, bill gardiner, says while the paper ballot is old fashioned, it worked.

10-a 15 degrees cooler than yesterday. notice the temperatures there are warmer. usually we warm first. temperatures will be four or five degrees warmer. notice the warming trend to the west. this is the air mass in place through the day on saturday. 60's to near 70. couple of approach 70. more fog playing out later tonight. lows between 35 and 45. similar temperatures within a few degrees for the day on friday with sunshine. if you are going to be traveling your holiday weekend destination. from there, we'll see sunshine saturday give way to a few high clouds later in the day. the front arrives with a chance of a passing

been trying to bring matthew far enough north. it looks like it is moving northward. if it front gets here and bypasses us before this somes far enough north. the track in intensity is unchanged over the next couple of day. through the bahamas and just off of the east coast hurricane warnings in effect there. notice the turn north and northeast. we get to about day three and a half and notice the fade back off shore as opposed to being ridden northward by this front. this system could be there a while. i mean by the middle of next week. notice several of the maps hinting and diving farther back to the south as opposed to

deb: good morning. the fog is slowing things down. give yourself a couple of extra minutes as you head out the door this morning. we're seeing some road work slowing things down in manchester. a serious crash at exit 43. traffic is jammed up. a slow ride down. i'm deb davidson for the traffic network, wzid. erin: hurricane matthew continues to slam the storm. sean: so far matthew is claimed for 11 deaths. the storm caused the biggest humanitarian crisis in haiti since

earthquake in 2010. erin: this was the strongest hurricane to hit since 1964. severe flooding has destroyed a number of homes. there's now a shortage of fresh water. now the full extent of the damage is not yet clear due to poor communication, blocked roads, and also washed out bridges. here in the u.s., governors in florida, georgia, and the carolinas have declared states of emergency as they brace for the impact of hurricane matthew. the storm stays on its current hit miami tomorrow night. sean: here in new hampshire, the haitian community is waiting to hear from their loved ones. many communication systems are down in haiti right now. they are struggling to get news. ray brewer live in the studio now to tell us how they are coming together in support of the hurricane victims. good morning, ray. ray: good morning. new hampshire's haitian community planning to

they have yet to hear from. inside the first haitian baptist church, members are raising prayers. it is an agonizing wait. nearly everyone here has family members in haiti. >> right now my sister, my nephew, my cousin. >> are you nervous and worried about survived the earthquake when he was 11. >> we movedded here two months after the earthquake to be able to get a chance to go to school. ray: now he wants to help those who remain behind. >> i want to support and make my family proud. ray: the haitian community is collecting donations to send to churches in haiti. they are asking people to come to a fundraiser

october 12th. erin: manchester is facing charges in connection with a deadly crash. court documents say riley was under the influence of drugs when he crashed into a car back in september of 2015. two people inside that car 83-year-old lynwood and sally carter died from their injuries. parole. he was in prison after been convicted in the 1976 death. officer miller was responding to a noise complaint when he was killed. roy was 15 at the time. he has underdone a lengthy period of transition before reentry into society. erin: a barrington man is speaking out after someone fired a shot into his home.

arrive late saturday or saturday evening. seemingly the only true chance of rain over the next seven days as we have changes on the track of hurricane matthew. mid 30's to lower 40's. we have cooled off here in southern portions of the state. we likely do this again tonight. there could be a few areas that haven't quite seen the frost yet. they have that risk. not only this morning, but again tomorrow morning. don't let your guard down on that. otherwise we have the fog out there early this morning giving way to sunshine. temperatures through the afternoon eua there could be a few upper 60's to near 70 away from the shoreline into the afternoon. from there, after another cool night tonight and chilly up north with some frost or fog to be had out there, we eventually get back into the upper 60's to lower range of the 70's tomorrow afternoon. we are looking at temperatures in the low to mid 70's about statewide on friday. that looks to be with sunshine and starting the holiday weekend with sunshine until a few high clouds start to

front. the projections over the last several days have been thinking matthew would be far enough north that the front would sweep it just to the south, south of long island over the weekend. that has been fairly slow. while the forecast for the next couple of days hasn't changed much, eventually moving it through the bahamas, and then sometime on friday moving along the east coast of florida, it eventually tracks it north and notice that the front doesn't grab it and make it out to sea. that means this system could linger a while. a lot of extended maps had the lingering around well off shore all the way into the middle or end of next week. we likely have not heard the end of this. most of the tracks now well to the south. a huge difference than what we had out there with the forecast and projections yesterday. this is why you get beyond two or three days of a forecast with a hurricane and you have to keep updated. what the end result is for us around here is
