season ahead. but for the first time ever, they've had to truck in water to fill three normally brook-fed small ponds that drivers need to ride through to cool off their suspensions. >> a tractor trailer load for example that would normally fill a pool is roughly what we use to fill one of the holes, the two other smaller ones are much less than that. and so, and the good thing is that when they come in it also pr to go drink, which they haven't had the opportunity to do this summer yet. jennifer: organizers say they do share concerns about the drought so they're having that water trucked in from as far away as possible. mike: we really could use some of the rain from hurricane matthew, certainly not the wind and certainly not torrential rain over a short period of time. but looks like we dodged a lot of it.
6:16 pm
battering the bahamas at this hour. top winds at 120 miles per hour. it's projected to get more intense over the next 24 to 48 hours. the likely track takes it towards the east coast of florida, between now and thursday evening, and then after that a slight jog to the north hugging the florida coastline. then to the northeast, hugging the carolina coast, and then westerly winds take the storm off to the east and maybe even drive it down to theth hampshire. but certainly a great impact on the southeast. for much more on the wind and the concern for the warnings and what that wind means for them in the southeast, here's haley. hayley: this is going to be a big deal down in florida, so if you know people down there, if you own a home down here, i know you're really thinking about all of that. these are the latest warnings that have been issued. there is a hurricane warning that goes from just north of miami and it continues up through port st. lucie,
6:17 pm
jacksonville it's a hurricane watch at this point, but that likely would get upgraded to a warning if the hurricane remains as strong as it looks. what you're seeing in this circle is the wind speed, and of course at the center is the hurricane force winds. that looks like it could come right along that central coast there of the east coast of florida and then you're talking tropical force winds within that yellow area, that could reach even the west coast of florida. then i and then south carolina as we push forward here. this is a great way to break down the storms. so the storm as it comes into florida will likely be a category 3 or 4. so this is a look at some of the damage, a category one upwards of 75-mile per hour winds, category 2 is closer to 100-mile per hour winds. but this is what we're talking about for florida here, category 3 winds, over 100 miles per
6:18 pm
upwards of 130, maybe even 150-mile per hour wind gusts that will cause huge issues down in florida. thankfully we won't have to deal with that, of course we could use the rain, there is at least some showers in the forecast. mike has more on that. mike: we're tracking that not for tomorrow, not for friday, probably late saturday is our first shot of getting in on a couple of showers. but right now mainly clear skies, upper 50's in plymouth, 60's for many, jaffrey at 59. but notice that cooling effect of the ocean now, lower to mid 50's, that's it along the coast at this hour, overnight another chilly one, keep in mine with clear skies and dry air in place it will be very cool by night. but once in a while you get a little surge of spring warmth and it'sing about to our west, 76 right now in cleveland, up to 80 in chicago the last hour, to you down to 79. but you get the idea, this is
6:19 pm
into sunday, that's when a cold front starts to drive in some cooler air behind it and that same front will push matthew well to our south as we go into saturday night, sunday and early next week. right now fair skies are locked in, showers in the great lakes will fall apart. we have to wait until another front gets in here for our next chance of a some showers. mostly clear tonight, some valley fog. full sunshine the rest of the day. bright skies on friday. and a fair amount of sun early saturday before a few clouds move in. with that next front. in terms of shower chances, give it about 30%, and that's it. later saturday or saturday night. clearing early on sunday. after a nice warm stretch through saturday it begins to cool right back to the average on sunday. columbus day will be bright, breezy and cooler. and then a slight warmup to just a little above the average for
