some out of manchester. maggie rulli is following the preps for matthew's arrival. reporter: this morning florida is preparing for this, hurricane matthew. it has ripped through the caribbean. >> everything in my house is with the. the water took it. reporter: leveling towns as it makes through the bahamas. matthew heads to the u.s. the u.s. is winning at over 120 miles per hour. they have already declared state of emergency. more than one million are being asked to leave their homes in florida. >> get out now. it could be the decision between life and death. reporter: south carolina

good morning, ray. ray: good morning. police say it is a dangerous situation. it is fortunate that no one was hurt. police were first called to the recycling business in bowe around 3:00 for a domestic disturbance where 54-year-old pete emanuel used the front end loader to tip over another piece of construction equipment while someone was inside. emanuel was still driving the loader when they turn the machine off, and drove into a building. >> at one point as we approached the building and got close to it, he backed it out toward the officers. certainly there could have been some severe injuries that big piece of equipment. ray: police say emanuel abandoned the loader near several dumpsters and ran across the street and took off in a company vehicle while officers

he was arrested two hours later. he now faces several charges, including attempted first-degree assault and criminal mischief. he's due in court later this morning. sean: donald trump is returning to new hampshire today. the republican presidential nominee is holding an invite only town hall style event in sandown at 7:00 tonight. this comes a week after bedford. the candidates for governor squared off in the debate last night. the republican, chris sununu and democrat, colin van ostern, tackled issues that will impact the state from the economy to health care. one recurring theme was who had the best resum? for the corner office? >> when it comes to business, results matter.

more than 80 employees will be on hand. you may have noticed already, but it is costing a little less to fill your pantry these days. according to the bureau of labor, the overall cost of groceries is down about 2% over the last year. the biggest savings are for proteins like meat, fish, and eggs. part of the reason is many farmers have expanded production. we continue into the next year for pork, eggs, and chicken. sean: a massive new oil field has been discovered off of the coast of alaska. it may be one of the biggest. officials think the field contains between six and ten million barrels of oil, enough to produce an extra 200,000 barrels a day for decades. the goal is to start production by 2022. the company that discovers the oil says

lifetime. we start off and you notice there's thick clouds in spots. it is either clear skies and the patchy dense fog to contend with just over the first few hours this morning. sunshine from the top down. it eventually sets up more sunshine and warmer temperatures this morning. there will be a lot of folks up above 70 degrees, maybe as warm as 75 in southern new hampshire away from the shoreline into the afternoon. the last warm day up into the 70's will beto maybe a couple of stray showers coming with that. that's really the only chance of rain. we're looking at cooler air to look in for sunday and columbus day on monday. we have the clear skies. the fog is the issue between now and 8:00 or 8:30 this morning. beyond that, there's the front to the west. more skies are clear. temperatures have dropped back. a lot of lower and mid

issues are with the fog. western half and northern half of the state and right along the immediate shoreline. temperatures running close to where we were yesterday which is upper 30's to mid 40's. you pan out and notice the warmer temperatures to the west. that's the reality through the day tomorrow. temperatures for most between 70 and 75. a few upper 60's and likely at the shoreline by 3:00 or 4:00. it is nothing but sunshine after the fog burns off. moreog temperatures will be up into the 70's for the busy travel day tomorrow. all across the northeast should be just fine for traveling around tomorrow for your holiday weekend destination. it may start with fog on saturday as well. giving way to partial sunshine. notice the round of showers approaching from the west. good chance we'll have a couple of showers out that. we're keeping track on the latest advisories as it continues to move

category 4 strength near the east coast of florida and possibility the eye making its way on shore later on tonight and early tomorrow. from there, you'll notice the track keeps to the south. it could be matthew in the beginning and middle of next week as possibility a named system as it lingering around and doesn't have a front to scoop it away. temperatures for this afternoon will be warm. we'll drop tonight into the 40's across a part of the state. notice one rain chance for saturday afternoon or early saturday evening. should be nothing more than a passing shower or two. we'll clear out and set up cooler sunshine to round out the holiday weekend. another warming trend setting up. the next front will be slated to move in until the middle of next week. sean: all eyes reason the florida coast right now. let's check out the top stories. we start with ray brewer. ray: bowe police respond to an

they say it is fortunate that nobody was hurt calling it a very dangerous situation. the officers called to recycling business on river road yesterday afternoon. where they say 54-year-old peter emanuel used a front-end loader to tip over another piece of construction equipment while someone was inside. emanuel later fled the scene, arrested a couple of hours later. he's due in court later today. sean: the man police say was drunk when he lead them on high-speed chase along winding roads in pelham is due in court today. 22-year-old justin reached 80 miles an hour and blew through red lights before the car flip over. the trial of a woman accused of hitting a relative with a baseball bat is expected to wrap up today. 35-year-old eric hunt is charged with two counts of second-degree assault. erin: is it white or blue? there's a new color debate swirling on the internet.

another piece of equipment while someone was inside. emanuel was driving the motor, ignoring the request to turn it off. at one point he backed it toward the officers and police cruiser. >> we were able to get out of the way. there's enough room we were able to move rather quickly. at this point if he wanted to decide to drive at us, we had enough safe places to go thankfully it didn't come to that. ray: police say emanuel drove the front end loader to the end of the property. officers had to check several dumpsters. during that time, emanuel went across the street, got into a company truck, and fled the scene. he was arrested without incident about two hours later on field stone drive. he's now facing multiple charges, including two felony counts of attempted first-degree

$100,000 pending his arraignment later this morning. live in bowe, ray brewer sean: all right. thanks. hurricane matthew is reeking havoc as it makes its way to the u.s. the storm is being blamed for at least 16 deaths. ten of them in haiti. the death toll will likely climb. this morning officials are still struggling to communicate with haiti's hardest hit southwest region. a key bridge there was washed roads impassable. phone lines are down. so far norths have found more than 3,200 destroyed homes. now matthew is making its way toward florida's coast. preparations for the storm are well underway. nikole killion to tell us how the government is gearing up. reporter: sean, president obama says now is the time to prepare for matthew and heed the advise of local authorities. president obama: this is something to take seriously.

for the worse. i would urge everybody in the affected states of florida, georgia, south carolina, north carolina to pay very close attention to your local officials. reporter: the president vimmed fema headquarters on wednesday. he got an update on the storm. they have response teams on the ground. the storm has killed more than a dozen people in the caribbean and is expected to reach florida's coast tonight. nearly two million people have been urged to south carolina's governor is expected to call for more evacuations today. in washington, nikole killion, wmur news 9. erin: rochester police need your help tracking down a bank robbery suspect. the man in these surveillance pictures walked into the citizens bank inside the hannaford supermarket on milton road and passed the telling a note says he had a weapon and wanted cash. no weapon was shown. the suspect took off after getting some money. anyone who recognizes

the rochester police department. sean: a manchester man is accused of making meth at a boat launch. 36-year-old derick winters of the arrested after he was caught making meth at the purgatory pond boat launch. after serving his truck, they found more evidence of meth manufacturing. he's due in court next month. erin: a man pled guilty in a case that and robberies. joe lear rewas one of two men and women charged in the case. they answered an ad for female companionship. >> they had an apartment

after having provided money for the services. >> leary pleaded guilty to robbery and conspiracy. sean: the new new hampshire is feeling the impact of the drought. it is a decade's old event this weekend that attracts more than 40,000 people as they get ready for the upcoming snowmobile season. for the first time ever, event organizers have to truck in water to fill th bonds that people need to ride through in order to cool their suspensions. >> a tractor trailer load is roughly what we use to fill one of the holes. the two other smaller ones are much less than that. so -- the good thing is that when they come in, it also provides firm -- with the farm animals a place to drink afterwards, which they haven't had the opportunity to do this

sean: because of the drought, they are having to truck in water from as far as away as possible. erin: a ground-breaking ceremony is being held in colebrook today for a renovation and expansion project at upper connecticut valley hospital. the $2 million project will make more than double the size of the emergency department and provide space for the rehabilitation department. the ceremony starts at 3:30 this afternoon. sean: a welcome home ceremony was held in sandown for a volunteer his bike from new hampshire to florida. 68-year-old jerry lechance went on the 2,700 mile journey to raise money for ride to recovery. the organization building adaptive bicycles for disabled veterans. fire departments along the route were asked to give him a chance to stay. >> my wife told me to ask my doctor. i did. can i go on a bike ride?

before the changes start to kick in over the holiday weekend itself. we'll have the details and an update on hurricane matthew coming up in just a bit. erin: a boy in revere, massachusetts is speaking out after a terrifying incident. he was fast asleep when a car came suddenly crashing into his bedroom. the 10-year-old says at first he thought he was having a nightmare. the driver said he felt asleep and the next thing he knew he was waking up in the fifth graders bedroom. >> i everything just started to rumble for a second. i woke up and i see everything collapsing. the walls are broken. everything was -- everything was falling. my lamp and bed. >> i was thinking he is on. that's it. i'm not going to find him. i lost my son. that's it. erin: can you believe that? amazingly the boy suffered only a few scratches. the accident remains under investigation. sean: if you have a child that's

minnesota has announced it will be closed on thanksgiving day. that does not mean that people will not be able to shop. the mall is giving stores until 6:00 p.m. on thanksgiving day. it will still host the walk on thanksgiving morning. some of the facebook fans tour pleased. tony writes all stores thanksgiving giving employees time to cook and celebrate with loved ones. sean: how would you like to have your own island? cedar island is located on lake champlain. not only does it come with a boat, it also has a house. it features two bedrooms and a tennis court. there's also a guest cabin and boat house. >> 360-degree views. you have your sunrise over the green mountains

saturday. ha will be the only chance of showers over the next six days. cooler air will eventually win out behind it. a cool front moving through saturday as we move into sunday and columbus day. a lot of sunshine after fog burns off. that continues tomorrow as well. that's the next front there. as you can see, it comes in from the southwest. we're not talking very cold air. we're getting to that time of year with the clear skies and light winds that you have temperatures fall into the mid 30's. patchy frost in a few at the coastline, you're still in the lower range of the 40's. a lot of 30's as a very sneaky time of year where if you have still having the growing season going and you want to keep it going, you have to keep track of the clear skies and light wind nights. temperatures can kind of slowly fade back into the mid 30's an a night you may not necessarily expect it. 35 to 45 for the overnight low this is morning. we are looking at temperature this is afternoon to get up into the low to mid 30* 70's statewide after any fog

the normal fog-prone areas early this morning, you are going to want to take a few extra minutes. from there, one or two notches warmer for tomorrow. that will be with sunshine and a light wind as well. a couple of banner autumn days for us. we need the rain and the one rain chance looks to come on the first of the three days over the holiday weekend. we'll start with sunshine or patchy fog on saturday. then we'll add clouds in the afternoon. anywhere after 2:00 or 3:00 there will be the risk of a couple of showers coming through. that will be fairly brief. sunshine and the cooler temperatures. you can see the awl eye starting to redevelop through the bahamas and approaching the east central florida as either a strong category 3 or a category 4 hurricane sometime later tonight and early tomorrow. the track of the system hasn't changed much over the last 24 hours. if anything, the track remains suppressed to the south and could be matthew into the middle of next week. a weaker version.
