mourning. tonight flags are at half staff in vermont for the five teenagers killed in a wrong way crash over the weekend. good evening. i'm jean mackin. josh: i'm josh mcelveen. we're learning more about the young victims, one of them attended a private school here in new hampshire. jean: adam sexton has the latest. reporter: court documents in vermont indicate that the driver of the truck that struck and killed these teens is now under investigation for murder. one of the teens who died has been identified janey cozy, a sophomore at kimball union academy in new hampshire. she had apparently gone home to vermont for the holiday weekend. she and four friends were in the car headed southbound on 89. police say the driver of the truck stole a police cruiser of an officer who had arrived on scene and was trying to pull the teens from their burning vehicle. he causedded a series of crashes before being captured and is now

coach says she was one of a kind. >> such a great kid. there are 26 girls on our soccer team and two coaches and she's just beloved by everybody, smiling all the time, hard working, fun to be around, team oriented, just a wonderful kid. we are devastated. reporter: administrators say students are returning from the holiday weekend tonight and tomorrow. it's a small school of only a few hundred students and tomorrow to talk about what happened and to remember janey. adam sexton, wmur news 9. josh: we know the name of the driver that was killed while allegedly speeding a way from police, investigators say an officer in stoddard first tried to pull over 59-year-old kevin morong, who sped off on route 9, racing through his where and into then henniker before being thrown from his car in a crash involving three other vehicles.

reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour and camed to stop for police on two occasions. it started started in stoddard t night when a state trooper saw a blue toyota rav4 driving very fast. officials radioed ahead to his where police who saw the vehicle speeding on route 2029. authorities say there was a brief pursuit but it was quickly stopped because of the high speeds. shortly after that, police say there was a henniker where the driver of the toyota lost control and hit three other vehicles. police say morong was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. >> we have no idea why this operator was traveling at the rate of speed he was for so long, there was no pursuit going on initially as it was high speed. he didn't yield to my blue lights at all, kept driving at that high rate of speed for

reporter: authorities say drivers and passengers of the other vehicles involved were not seriously hurt. the investigation is continuing. andy hershberger, wmur news 9. jean: we're going to witch gears here. the long holiday weekend is coming to an end and there's a lot traffic out there as columbus day visitors head home. shelley walcott is at the hooksett rest area where people are getting a stop in on their way home. shelley: yes, lots stocking up here at the hooksett rest tolls for a long drive home, because traffic out here is a little bit slow today. of course tourism officials say hundreds of thousands of people coming home from up north where they took in the fall colors for the holiday weekend. the colors were at their peak in northern new hampshire this past weekend, and columbus day is the third busiest travel weekend in the state. and based on numbers from past years, an estimated 600,000 visitors were believedded to

josh: a terror suspect in germany is behind bars tonight thanks to a quickitying trio. three syrians living in germany say that the man approached them at a train station and asked for a place sta stay, they recognized him from a wanted poster. they agreed but then tied him up in their apartment until police arrived. police say al bakker was preparing a bomb attack and does have ties to at the new jersey station where a woman died in a deadly crash there. last month more than 100 people were hurt when the train crashed into the station in hoboken. many of the injury were among the passengers boarding trains today. first stopping at customer service to pick up items they had to leave behind on the day of the crash. investigators say that train was traveling more than twice the speed limit. traffic on the water is now

freeze warning? in the area that you see the freeze warning you'll definitely get frost. this just indicates a good possibility of getting those temperatures actually to freezing or below. you can actually have the frost occur with temperatures that are red read four, five, six feet above the ground. temperatures right near freezing result in frost, or on grassy areas. little below to the west. no advisory up north because you've already seen a killing freeze earlier in the month. you'll notice temperatures right now are on the cool side and also accompanied by gusty wind. when you're in the shade it feels quite chilly with the winds active out of the north northwest. some gusts higher than 30 at times today. but those winds will abate and with clear skies, very dry air

sheridan avenue capping a three-month investigation. 27-year-old ryan kirk, a transient, charged with supplying the fentanyl that killed a young man found in an apartment complex in june. >> he was a male in his 20's, he was from a neighboring community in maine, and to our knowledge from this investigation he had come here specifically with the purpose to purchase the drugs that he ended up eventually taking. reporter: police can't say whetherir other overdoses. >> i can't speak to how many other people ingested what this gentleman was selling. you can relate to it a game of russian roulette. reporter: they send two detectives and a supervisor to investigate every overdose death. >> they're difficult cases because a lot of times you have to have a witness to the actual act of ingesting the drug. and unfortunately a lot of the

tonight, a good part of carroll county, anywhere south of the mount washington valley. it's likely that temperatures will dip a few degrees below freezing in western and northern new hampshire, that's where that freeze warning is up for tonight. as for temperatures, on the cool side to start, winds still active but they'll shut down later on tonight and that out, basically in the 20's and lower 30's in many locales. mid 20's up north. right around 35 or 36 in manchester and along the coast. crystal clear skies now, sunny skies for the day tomorrow. lighter winds tonight. temperatures bottoming out by morning, right around 37 or 38 downtown. but just away from downtown my 30's and a few low 30's.

state trooper saw a blue toyota rav4 speeding eastward. >> the trooper tried to catch up to the vehicle to stop it, but the vehicle was traveling so fast that it got out of his sight quickly. so he radioed ahead, the hillsboro police department subsequently saw the vehicle too. reporter: a hillsboro officer pursued the vehicle for a short time trying to get the driver to pull over, but eventually broke off the chase becauf speed. authorities say it wasn't long before calls began coming in about a crash. >> apparently the operator of the s.u.v. had lost control of the vehicle and struck three other vehicles in the process. reporter: police say the driver of the s.u.v. was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. the drivers and passengers in the other vehicles were not seriously hurt. police say their investigation will continue. >> we have no idea at this point
