to a residence at 24 arlene drive, and found the 33-year-old victim who had been shot in the head. >> when my officers arrived on scene, she was found in the foyer to a duplex type residence that had a common entry. my officers apply first aid, they tried to control the bleeding and give her comfort. she was fairly conscious at that time. reporter: the woman was first taken to lakes region general hospital, then air lifted to dartmouth h center. she's listed in critical condition but is expected to survive. police say cuocolo stole a car and fled the scene, that vehicle was recovered in meredith and it's possible the suspect is still in that area. >> i would consider this individual armed and dangerous. i would not consider him a, a threat to the basic public or society in general. this was not a random act. this

reporter: anyone who may have information about this suspect's where abouts is asked to call the belmont police or the new hampshire state police. live in meredith, andy hershberger, wmur news 9. tom: a keene high school teacher is facing a felony account of falsifying physical evidence after authorities confronted her at the school. jennifer: we'll get to that later. first, relief at hampton beach tonight that a quick res in the iconic casino complex, and this just in to the newsroom, officials say the cause was an electrical short circuit in a restaurant beverage cooler. reporter: any time you hear fire at hampton beach, you may fear the worst, and for good reason. an entire block burned to the ground back in 2010.

100 years old and made of wood. but tonight many are expressing relief. fire crews from all over converged on the sprawling hampton beach casino complex wednesday morning, the chief himself sounding the alarm just before 8:00. >> i was just driving into worm and saw smoke coming from the building. reporter: initial worry turned to relief. the three-alarm fire was contained in about an hour. >> thankod report jake fleming manages the century old wooden building and owns the purple urchin restaurant. investigators believe it was started there by an electrical short circuit in a beverage cooler. >> it's more smoke and water than any real heavy duty fire damage. but there's still a lot of work to be done. reporter: while some smoke went throughout the entire building, the damage is mostly contained to the urchin and businesses

floor, a couple inches of water there, and product that we had hanging, water dripping off it, so it doesn't look very promising at this point. reporter: two firefighters sustained minor injuries, but the fact that there was no win, that the complex was empty and that it's now the off season, leaving many with reasons to be thankful. >> thank goodness it wasn't jammed with people. >> if there's a time it has to happen, this would be a better reporter: there is no damage to the casino ballroom. but a show there scheduled for tomorrow night has been canceled because it's not clear when gas and electricity will be reconnected to the complex. jennifer crompton, wmur news 9. tom: more on that keene high school teacher facing a felony count of falsifying evidence after authorities confronted her at the school. police say her own coworkers

diane delyle was abusing drugs. witnesses say they found a cut off straw, a pill grinder and a small bag of white powder in her possession while she was working at the school. police were called and searched her car and it's alleged she had someone remove her purse from her classroom before police could get to it. an ongoing investigation included more witness interviews and use of surveillance video. today an arrest warrant was issued for turned herself in to police. the superintendent notified parents about all of this today. >> we are aware of a situation involving one of our staff members over at the high school, and we have taken administrative action to minimize any disruptions at the school. we are also aware that this is an ongoing police investigation and we will fully cooperate with investigators as requested. tom: delisle was charged with

bail. jennifer an independent reviewer just released the first series of recommendations for staffing levels at the division of children, youth and families. governor hassan called for the review in the wake of two child deaths. kristen carosa is live with more on this. reporter: this review started several month ago and as you said it was prompted by the governor to help prevent future tragedies. the report has been issued by the center for the support of families, an ingroup that's been children protection programs and policies. they suggest increasing the number of authorized positions from 85 to 120, resolving the current backlog issue, and forcing a strict 60 day policy time frame for completing assessments and to increase efforts in reducing turnover and work absences. this preliminary information will be used by the department of health and human services to help prepare their budget for next year.

when they said hi wanted to go hang gliding. >> i was thinking that's cool, that's so neat. i wasn't surprised because they don't waste one minute. reporter: june, who is 97, had some breathing problems and had to back out. but 94-year-old jack went up, up and away taking in the autumn vistas. >> you could see, i could see across the connecticut into ve seeking adventure here, even if it is the oldest person they've ever taken hang gliding. >> he just seemed really calm, totally collected, ready for anything, like a normal situation like he was sitting across the couch from me. reporter: when it comes to what's next, they say they're in no hurry, but they plan to stay as active as possible. >> i don't mind sitting in a rocking chair, but i don't want that to be my life's work.

>> if you're having fun you don have time to sit around and worry about how old you are. reporter: in newport and charlestown, adam sexton, wmur news 9. mike: we started off this day not as cool as yesterday, but still quite chilly. look at the foliage out there in warner, where we're getting closer to peak in that part of the state. we've reached peak in northern sections and eventually down into the lower in the 60's in many spots, cooler along the waters end due to a light on shore breeze. tonight not as cool as last night. so temperatures continue to work up a little bit. mid 30's up north and 40's elsewhere, a lot of warm air building over the eastern part of the country and that's ours for tomorrow and tomorrow night. but then notice how much cooler it turns back in the northern plains and upper midwest.

tomorrow afternoon, into friday morning and saturday and sunday looking dry and on the cooler side. in terms of the rain chances, unfortunately the best shot of steady rain will be in northern parts of the state where you're not in the extreme or even severe drought. but most of of this energy will be passing over northern sections of say new york state, vermont, northern new hampshire and some areas will just get scattered showers later in the mainly clear skies this evening, some low clouds will begin to fill in from the ocean and there could be a touch of drizzle in some spots for the morning commute, but not too much, and the best shot of that will be lower merrimack valley in towards the shore. in terms of showers back through the west, they begin to approach later in the afternoon. first in the upper valley and great north woods. then eventually in the merrimack valley and towards the coast. all out of here by later tomorrow night and full sunshine returns, a bit breezy on friday,

tomorrow. if you're mere the coast, right around 62 or 63. same story in the great north woods. then mid 60's everywhere else, a few notches lower than that during the daylight hours on friday. take a look at this powerful hurricane right now in the atlantic, this is hurricane nicole. the top sustained wind up to 11. just a little bit more intensification carries that into a category 3 major hurricane, and look at where it's heading directly right over bermuda, bye strong category 2 or 3 hurricane before it races out to sea later friday into saturday. around here we're tracking a few showers, that's it. later tomorrow afternoon, could be a touch of drizzle early in the day, bright, breezy, cooler friday, but seasonably so. the weekend looks great. cool by day, downright chilly by night. saturday and sunday morning will feature the coldest temperatures so far of the season, but then
