aftermath. the patrol car's windows shattered. this is the gun police say was found in the maz za. incredibly, both the officer and civilian surviving. the madera police department, like so many other departments across the country, take civilians out often, as part of the citizens' academy to show people in the community how police work. for one woman, that's a lesson that came with too close a call. wow. and this morning, we'reol police officer was not injured at all. the young woman suffered minor cuts from the broken glass but is otherwise okay. can you imagine? >> no. and this is why police officers say, there's no such thing as a routine traffic stop. you never know what could happen. thank you. >> thank you, gio. now to the devastating crash near palm springs. at least 13 people killed, dozens injured. the ntsb sin vest gating. >> reporter: this morning, the

tragedy on major california highway. 13 killed. 31 injured when a tour bus smashed into this trail person doctors working through the night. a number of victims admitted to the icu. >> most of the victims were unrestrained. and therefore, were flown through the air and ended up receiving facial trauma. >> reporter: the tour bus on the way back from a casino. crashing into t b significant speed just after 5:00 a.m. sunday. driver of the bus among those killed. the big rig driver shaken and injured. but able to help injured passengers out of the bus. the bus tour company has a clean accident report and no history of mechanical problems. the california highway patrol trying to determine the cause of the accident. say possible fatigue or a medical emergency could have contributed to to bus driver failing to hit the brakes.

the merrimack river in massachusetts yesterday appears to be that of 16-year-old boy jacob goulet. he was reported missing on friday, after police say he was swept into a storm drain in nashua. that was during the heavy rains. based on the clothing description, nashua police believe the body pulled from the merrimack river is goulet's, but an autopsy will make the final determination. laconia police say they are investigating a possible kidnapping. they say someone reported seeing a female being dragged by her hair into an suv, while the incident happened just before midnight on cottage street. police later located the suv, but no one was inside. they say they are now following up on several leads. we'll keep you posted as we learn any new information. as we head outside, beautiful fall colors still out there, even though we had wind out there yesterday. kevin: it depends where you are. everyone is in on the wind out of the west, which will be
