a small marijuana growing operation and several firearms have been seized from 56 wood hill drive in auburn. >> they'll be sent up to the county attorney's office for possible indictment and possible charges. reporter: it's the same home where police responded to a confrontation between the homeowner and an intruder earlier this morning. >> we were sent here for an intruder in the home. there was a confrontation between the homeowner and someone who was inside his house, a gunshot was fired by the homeowner. no one was and tin trueder ran off into the woods. reporter: authorities searched the area near hooksett road and route 121. k9's and a state police helicopter were used to track the suspect. he was spotted at one time but officers lost sight of him. police say the suspect is a white male, is between the age of 30 and 40 and has gray hair and a gray beard. >> the search continues with the aid of our local officers through the surrounding towns and we still have not found the suspect. reporter: meantime residents

could face charges. police aren't saying if the confrontation and the items taken from the home are related. >> it would be speculation if the two are related. reporter: police say this investigation continues. so far no arrests have been made. live in auburn, kristen carosa, wmur news 9. josh: tonight investigators want to know what started a deadly fire in a rochester mobile home early this morning. the city says it's the first residential fire death there in more than a jennifer crompton joins us from the scene and jen, has the victim been identified yet? reporter: no, she has not, josh. fire officials are waiting to release her name, but neighbors say a woman lived here alone, someone they describe as very nice. the scene here at 21 whispering wind lane and the mobile home that used to be her home is one of devastation.

roof was already collapsing when they arrived. they believe the fire was burning for a while before it was noticed. neighbors describe it as seeming to go up in second. the woman who called it in says she was awakened by what sounded like a freight train and woke up to see her yard lit up by giant flames across the street. >> from then on its was getting 911 and get the people up and out that we could get out. sad that she didn't make >> it all happened so fast, that you know, your life can just go just like that. reporter: the last fatal residential fire here in rochester was over 13 years ago, all the in a mobile home. officials tonight reminding of the importance of working smoke detectors. jennifer crompton, wmur news 9.

nashua bike path pled guilty today. steven pino admitted to beating benjamin markham while jonathan goff stabbed him more than 20 times during a robbery. prosecutors say pino initiatedded the assault but did not deliver the fatal blows. josh: developments tonight in new hampshire's drug crisis. prosecutors announced today a huge heroin trafficking jennifer: the u.s. attorney's office says 25 people are now facing criminal charges. naoko funayama is live now with just how large this alleged operation was. reporter: yes, this is certainly significant, it was a pretty sophisticated drug ring that allegedly brought heroin in from mexico to new hampshire and northern massachusetts. the investigation took 18 months and brought in big results. prosecutors say the bust of a large heroin trafficking ring

members. including their alleged leader alberto marte of lowell, meation. >> all are alleged to have distributed hoirn or fentanyl in our communities. reporter: police used wiretaps to get the evidence they neededded to make the arrest. officials believe that over a kilo that came in through mexico was distributed throughout the state and northern massachusetts. >> drug customers would place orders by members of the group to make deliveries. >> these individuals don't care about who they sell to, they don't care that people are dying from it. they're in it for one thing and that's to make money. reporter: police say this takedown decreases the availability of drugs in the area. but that they need community help in educating youth about its danger. the state's chief medical examiner expects heroin related deaths to be near 500 in new hampshire this year.

this, in fact this problem itself is probably going to get worse before it gets better. reporter: there are still two members of the alleged drug ring that are still at large tonight. police say no heroin related deaths have been linked to this group specifically but that their investigation is continuing. in the studio, naoko funayama, wmur news 9. josh: the first sentencing in the deadly overdose of a rochester teenager is on a friday. mark ross has pled guilty forgiving eve tarmey the drugs that killed her. his lawyers requesting a 20-year sentence citing ross' 30 year battle with drugs. he calls ross a sat example of a person who can't overcome his addiction to heroin but stles are no excuses for what happened. jennifer: a cold night ahead with temperatures falling into the 20's. tomorrow some rain arrives, but this is the butt part, in parts of the state it will be snow.

so let's get over to chief meteorologist mike haddad. mike: we've got the cold air in place, a storm on the way and eventually you know with that cold air and precipitation does, it adds up to snow in some spots. critical things to keep in mind mind -- right now it's generally fair skies. tomorrow a little sun early. clouds take over by midday yo thickening up with a few showers by early afternoon. trickiest part of the forecast comes late afternoon through mid evening in western and central new hampshire. that's where the higher the rain could see a period of wet snow with rain mixed in colorado be a little slick in the higher elevations and back roads well to the north and west. in the higher terrain, self inch eggs of snow by early friday. what about beneficial rain for others, we'll take a look at

get ahead. a bright new hampshire future starts with looking out for people. josh: tonight friends and family of a nashua teenager are gathering for a candle-light vigil. jacob goulet's body was recovered from the merrimack river on saturday. the 16-year-old was walking home from a friend's house during a heavy rain storm when police believe he may have fallen down a storm drain.

at nashua north high school. days after dcyf was named in a lawsuit alleging the state agency didn't do enough to protect children in a sex abuse case, division officials went back before the review commission today. jennifer: the shortage of social workers is keeping the division of children youth and families from moving to 24-7 staffing. the agency says it's even having trouble hiring people to work until 8:00 p.m. let alone all night long. evening hours are critical to children. but the director of dcyf did report some progress. >> 33 since july 1st of this year. that's an unprecedented number of new protective staff coming into dcyf. so i believe that that too has given our staff hope that relief is on the way. jennifer: dcyf says a higher pay level would make it easier to

their lives up ended. the 14-year-old was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. jennifer: nashua police say her attitude and her fight have become an inspiration to them. josh: today they were there when the family got a big financial boost. wmur's ray brewer has the story. reporter: alia's mother says there are good days and bad days. today was definitely a good day. >> i'm 14 years old, i go to nashua south, and before cancer i liked t reporter: now unable to move without the help of a wheelchair or crutches, alia davis made a trip wednesday to the nashua police department. the organization, comes for kids with cancer, presenting her with a check for $5,000. the money coming after the nashua police department submitted her name to the organization. >> every time i've met her she's

that attitude is an inspiration to all of us. reporter: for alia there are constant trips to boston for treatment, the most difficult part? >> trying to eat because of the chemo. reporter: she was also treated to are v.i.p. tour a cruiser, leaving her suitably impressed. for her mother who works at a pizza place, the money means that she can treat her daughter to some nice things. >> at this point where she's at i don't want to have to tell her no, reporter: and she says even though doctors have told them there's only a 30% chance of survival, days like today give her hope. >> i think we'll be fine. reporter: as a result of today's visit, alia says she now knows what she wants to be for halloween, a police officer. ray brewer, wmur news 9. mike: time lambs photos in newfound lake, clouds, a little

to the northwest, keeping that fall chill and even a winter feel in some parts of new hampshire. temperatures right now down near freezing in the great north woods, 10 wintery degrees atop mount washington. and upper 30's in the lakes region. just a little above that concord points south and southeast. so got the cool air in place. and overnight tonight temperatures will bottom out close to the lowest so far this season in the lower to mid 20's north and mid to upper 20's to around 30 south. speaking of cold eastern canada, spilling its way in towards new england the last few days, and it's locked in here at least through mid evening tomorrow. that means when the next storm approaches and here it is in the great lakes, that will mean some snow in some parts of new hampshire. tricky part of the forecast will come in starting around this time tomorrow night true midnight and parts of western new hampshire in the higher terrain. elsewhere, south and east lakes region it will be mostly green, that means rain.

indicates that it's cold enough for some wet snow to develop in parts of new hampshire will see some accumulating snow by the time we get into tomorrow evening. right now it's mainly dry, any flurries in the mountains will dry up in time. a little filtered sun early tomorrow. a good part of the morning, early afternoon, rain-free. couple of sprinkles, a little drizzle may commence at the coast after about one or two o'clock, then the rain snow shieil around 2:00. around three, four or five it too warm to keep it in the form of snow, that would be lakes region points south. but you jump up in elevation, once precipitation increases it will be just cold enough in parts of western new hampshire, higher terrain of the monadnock region, places like washington and southern sullivan county, northern cheshire county could get a coating, maybe a half inch of wet snow before eventually it

farther north in higher terrain it will be wet snow for quite a time into early on friday, before the system pulls away by early afternoon on friday. setting the stage for a mostly dry upcoming weekend. in terms of rain tallies, good news here since the extreme drought continues over southeastern new hampshire, concord south and east we could get well over an inch in some spots, close to two plus inches of rain if this computer model is right. notice how the amounts taper off to the north where it will be speaking of which, could get a good coating especially in the higher terrain in western new hampshire, and by the time all is said and done a general two to five in the valleys, three to even in the great north woods and six to 10 in the higher terrain in the heart of the white mountains. so winter building in in a big way in northern zones. where do we go from here? later friday it clears out. saturday clouds, breaks, maybe a passing shower. and notice temperatures, they return to average for the weekend, into next week, halloween not all that bad,
