for some places the stormy weather started earlier this afternoon, others are about to see it move in. let's get over to mike haddad for the latest on the conditions. mike: we have the latest from the drought monitor and it puts us basically where we've been over the past couple weeks with the drought. and we're talking about a welcome rainfall for parts of new hampshire. but in other zones, places like jaffrey, keene, lebanon, plymouth, all in the upper once the rain becomes heavier we'll see those temperatures drop about three or four degrees, right down to critically cool levels to trigger a little wet snow. you see it trying to reach the ground other parts of southwestern new hampshire at this time, but it's just a little too warm, so it's primarily rain. steady, light to moderate through the lakes region. not much sticking at this time. there's a lot more moisture back to the west and once that

of wet snow, mainly in the higher terrain of western and central new hampshire. when most of the accumulation later on this evening and overnight in the heart of the white mountains. how much can we expect and what about strong winds for tomorrow? we'll look at all of that plus rain totals in a little bit. jean: thanks. this late october snowfall is reminding a lot of people of the winter that's ahead. loon mountain in lincoln is expected to see snow tonight and wmur's cherise lec there now with how the ski areas are welcoming tonight's potential snow. reporter: hi there, jean. they are looking forward to this. we're not seeing the snow yet, it's still raining here. but at the top of loon mountain from a few days ago there is a little snow already collecting up there. and as you said they're already looking forward to what this means for hopefully for them a much whiter winter this time around. the toch loon mountain is white capped at this time, but the

although flurries are in the forecast for this evening, ski area officials tell news 9 they typically look for a couple of consecutive days of 20-degree temperatures before they start firing up the snow guns. >> it's a busy time of year for us, everybody is really excited for the season to start. typically we don't see a lot of snow in october, but any time we see the white stuff falling, it makes us all excited. reporter: they say not a lot of snow happens in certainly a good sign of hopefully things to come for the ski season. they hope to capitalize on the colder days to start making snow and hopefully start their ski season by mid-november. cherise leclerc, wmur news 9. jean: don't forget to download wmur's free weather app to track this wintery weather moving in. you can follow our weather team on social media and get the

residential treatment center in plymouth is on leave after a drunk driving arrest. lebanon police say jeffrey car ron was behind the wheel when his car went off the road and hit a utility pole. his passenger was arrested as well. reporter: the crash happened in lebanon wednesday morning, the driver and passenger involved work here at this residential treatment center in plymouth. now both have been placed on reef. dartmouth college highway, it can be seen on this cell phone video captured by a witness. you can see the vehicle goes over the yellow line, nearly striking an oncoming car. the vehicle then slams into the telephone pole. police say 48-year-old jerry caron was driving while intoxicated, he was arrested at the hospital. his passenger, 31-year-old, was also arrested for possession of prescription pills, we're told

academy, an all boys residential treatment center. according to star members, caron is the organization's president and the passenger is the director of facilities. authorities say thankfully no other cars were involved in this crash. >> certainly given the rush hour commuter traffic, school traffic on a school day, there's a lot of things that could have happened and we're fortunate it wasn't worse. reporter: both men have been released on $10,000 cash bail, they'll be back in court in jean: an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow for a woman whose body was found in a nashua street. police say there is nothing suspicious about the woman's death, but the information or the investigation that is that shut down part of hudson street did certainly raise concerns for neighbors here. tonight the town of new boston is facing a federal lawsuit filed by a former police officer

she also claims her supervisor made inappropriate comments about women he would pull over. andy hershberger is live with the details of the suit. reporter: a former police officers has filed a lawsuit claiming she was fired after trying to report inappropriate conduct. she claims she was sexually harassed by a supervisor and that the same new suggestive female drivers claiming healed rather rape them than -- and that her reputation was sabotaged when she tried to get another job. she says when she tried to report sexual harassment her shift was changed and she was ultimately let go. the town in response saying that it doesn't comment on pending

of the ongoing legal process. live in the newsroom, andy hershberger, wmur news 9. tom: now to commitment 2016, we are now just 12 days until the general election and both presidential candidates busy on the campaign trail today. today hillary clinton and first lady obama campaigned together for the first time in the battle ground state of north carolina. during a rally in win stomach salem they talked about their shared respect, common values and o as for donald trump, he was rallying in the swing state of ohio where he blasted clinton for being too tough on russia. new poll numbers are raising more questions about trump's chances in swing states and whether he might cost republicans the majority in the u.s. senate. as jennifer davis reports from our washington bureau, new hampshire is home to one of the races on the line. reporter: analysts now say it looks like democrats could pick up five to seven new senate seats, and win back control of

reporter: there's a lot at stake with an opening on the supreme court since the senate confirms judicial appointments. and political reporters say the g.o.p. is facing an uphill battle. >> it's called ticket splitting, and it's actually an increasingly rare thing in american politics because they're really up against what is a decades long trend of voters who just vote republican or democrat up and down their ticket. reporter: to reclim a senate majority democrats would need to pick up five trump is president, they would only need four if hillary clinton wins because the vice president is a tie breaker. josh: the chairman of the national republican party was in new hampshire today rallying the troops and he also dropped by our studios to talk about the year that's been, the state of the g.o.p. moving forward, and how his opinion has evolved when it comes to the first in the nation primary. >> i want you to know and the people to know that we've been very impressed with new

near the manchester boston regional airport, but police don't know where their suspect may be headed, if you do see this man. police say do not approach him, instead call police right aaway. josh: a prisoner convicted as an accomplice to second degree murder now facing new charges. derek saunders has been indicted on two counts of first degree assault and one count of being a felon in possession a deadly weapon. he's accused of stabbing another inmate in the neck, he's alr death of david king whose body was found in his dover home in 2008. jean: you might notice some officer and law enforcement are turning pink. these clip on ties became an official part of the uniforms today at the portsmouth and stratham police departments. chief mara also brought a box of pink ties to the meeting, to spread the pink tie. it's an effort to show support

ride along. josh: the child advocacy center helps young victims of violent crime or sexual assault. mike: we're into the rain for many. a little wet snow has been flirting with the higher terrain in western new hampshire. right now, out in dublin it's primarily a chilly rain with temperatures stuck in the mid 30's, you go up in elevation, higher, that's when you'll encounter wet snow. this storm moving in tonight into tomorrow will bring some beneficial rain to put a little dent in the drought. extreme still locked in from concord towards the coast, down the merrimack valley. severe drought in the same spot as last week. heart of the lakes region through the upper valley. then we have the moderate drought farther north and west.

western new hampshire in the hyper terrain. you'll notice it's primarily green lakes region and merrimack valley. in the higher terrain it's trying to mix in once you get up over 1,000 feet. over the next few hours the intensity will increase. if you're traveling around peterborough, keene, washington, into the lake sunapee expect that the roads could turn a little dicey out there, a little slushy and snow covered during the mid evening through midnight. to north it's light rain, but once intensity increases here we'll see a quick changeover to wet snow in the heart of the white mountains. there's a lot of energy rotating around buffalo, moving right in our direction, tapping moisture out of the atlantic, and we could see over an inch of rain in many parts of new hampshire

all spots, so it is rain. but that will cool down a little bit as the cold air feeds into the storm, and then it warms up. here's a look at the timeline, trickiest part monadnock region up through lake sunapee. roads will get slick this evening and all and a half as to will wash away later tonight. notice how heavy that rain is overnight. then a quick tapering off later in the day and it win overnight. up to the north that will fall in the form of snow in the highest of elevations. a coating to an inch or two, monadnock region through lake sunapee, places like lincoln. waterville valley about three or four. presidential range six to 10 with 3 to 7 in dixville notch. there's a windy side to this storm as well, notice that lull

that's where the storm is expected to be. the winds crank up behind it. we could see scattered power outages on friday. beyond all of this it's much quieter for the weekend, clouds, a little sun, a passing shower for saturday. and it warms up as we go into the middle of next week, squeezed in between that is a bright and cool halloween, speaking of which we are now entering the last weekend for scream fest out there at to go to some spots where people don't want to go, what's it like? hayley: yeah, it really is. as you saw a couple moments ago, they have every type of ghoul, yes they even have clowns this year too, it is super scary, especially considering i'm in this massive warehouse turned into a haunted house. so you have to go through all these rooms with all these scary

dugard is teaching new hampshire law enforcement -- josh: tonight this woman is beginning a federal sentence. mike: heavy rain and snow tonight into part of tomorrow as a strong storm moves through. how much to expect. jean: and the man being called a hero behind a deadly stabbing spree says he didn't do anything special, but other survivors disagree. >> anything at that point reverted to my training, went into autopilot. jean: she was kidnapped as an 11-year-old and spent 18 years in captivity. tonight jaycee dugard is the granite state helping to train

sharing how horse therapy helped her heal can also help investigators. jean: jennifer crompton spoke with her this afternoon. reporter: this is a woman who embodies resilience, a survivor of such horrible trauma using what she's learned from her experience to help other families heal and to share insights for the law enforcement, all with the help of horse therapy. >> as a victim survivor you can be okay after something sullied world that was created for you. reporter: potent words from a woman who is a symbol of survival. now 36, dugard was kidnapped at 11, held captive for 18 years. finally recovered at 29 along with two daughters. no longer a victim. but an inspiration. >> she felt very strongly that she wanted to give back to law

mistakes and wanted them to never happen to another child. reporter: with settlement money from the state of california, j he started the jacce foundation, sharing the horse therapy that helped her. >> they provide a buffer, i needed a chance to connect with my mom, but that wasn't the easiest thing in the beginning. i-seen her for 18 years. so just having the horses doing the horse maybe we were just grooming together and talking. reporter: part of it, the law enforcement program that she shared at the upreach therapeutic riding center in goffstown, helping officers work together and recenter around being attuned to details, using exercises involving horses. >> if my story can inspire somebody to go back and maybe look a little deeper, i feel that we've done a good job.

deputy sheriff james creed was having dinner with his wife when derose a rushed into the restaurant and started attacking a waitress there. he then stabbed and killed a teacher who tried to intervene. >> i think george is the hero. george selflessly intervened within second without knowing what was going on. >> jim was not there, i would have been next. he was so close to me, i know it. jean: sheriff creed shot and killed derosa when he josh: more commitment 2016, we asked the candidates for congress whether taxpayer money should be used to support health care services that include abortion and here are the answers from the second district candidates. >> here's my view on abortion and i'm very clear about this. i was an adoption attorney for 25 years. i have walked the walk of doing everything that i can to make sure that abortion is safe, legal and very rare. i think we need to increase access to birth control, that's

difference with my opponents on. and we need to make sure that people have access to the health care services that they need. and right here in new hampshire i support funding planned parenthood because most of their work is avoiding unplanned pregnancy. that's the key, it's 90 some percent of the work that they do. abortion is a very small part, but it tends to get lots of heat and light from sector. here's my position and it's shared by most of the voters in new hampshire. we're conservative in this regard, we believe in less government interference, in people's personal lives. >> i do not believe that federal tax dollars should be used to support abortions. there's been a lot of discussion here recently in the news right here in the state of new hampshire about funding for planned parenthood.

presidential range. some spots up there, jefferson and right around mount washington could get a foot plus by the time we get into tomorrow afternoon. up to an inch and a half of rain southern and central new hampshire, great news there, to put a little dent in text treatment and severe drought over central and southern new hampshire. gusty winds will become a factor this evening. but especially late tonight, and into the day tomorrow. we could see a few scattered power outages across the state duri but right now we're tracking the precipitation moving in, in the form of light to moderate rain. lakes region points south through the merrimack valley and over towards the coast, it's just cold enough in the higher elevations of the monadnock region so we're starting to see a little wet snow. not really sticking to the roads, but that could change as temperatures drop right near 32 or 33 for about two or three hours during the mid to late evening. to the north it's primarily a chilly rain with a little bit of elevation wet snow.

course of the evening and some of that snow will accumulate several inches like has been occurring to our west today and portions of new york, also in western parts of massachusetts, but right now all above freezing, that will begin to change in the higher terrain as that precipitation increases because it cools down the atmosphere. so you'll notice that change over to some snow and then right back to rain during the course of night. look at these yellows, indicating more downpours. can't rule out a rumble of thunder in any one given spot. that off from southwest to northeast later in the day. higher terrain to the north. gusty winds to boot, tomorrow up to 30 to 40 miles per hour. as for the snow, a coating to maybe two inches in the monadnock region up to the lake sunapee zone. then higher amounts in the higher summits of the white mountains, 6 to 10 plus there. the valleys about one to three.

stormy 24 hours ahead with beneficial rain for some, and wet snow to our north and west. jennifer: some areas of the state could see several inches of it overnight. for the very latest let's check in with chief meteorologist mike haddad. mike: we are tracking temperatures now because that's critical in determining whether we get a chilly rain or wet snow. right now we're all above freezing, however in jaffrey and keene the temperature has dropped one degree in the last hour. as precipitation begins to and you notice the deeper blue shade there on our temperature map, indicating it's a little colder even to our west and that means western parts of the state stand a good chance of getting in on some wet snow. you can see it falling around areas of keene, back to peterborough, north to washington and southern sullivan county. not all of that is in the form of wet snow right now, but a good indication that those areas will see a little bit as we go through the evening. farther to the north more snow in the higher summits of the
