road from late this afternoon well into the evening. wmur's naoko funayama is live in salem where that road reopened about an hour ago. >> residence in the area are pretty fired up. a are concerned, they say they see accidents at this intersection maybe once every other month. this one today resulted in a death. police say it happened at around 4:30 this afternoon. a car, turning right onto route pushing it into on coming traffic. the result? a head on crash that left a 69-year-old female passenger dead. and the drivers of the 3 cars in the hospital. >> it is a high speed road, route 111 and that's a dangerous intersection. and unfortunately, throughough the years we've had some serious motor vehicle accidents there. >> route 111 has a speed limit of 50, but the residents around here say, they see cars going

ostern. tom: moderator and wmur political director josh mcelveen begins our team coverage tonight live from saint anselm college. josh: good evening to you guys. the two candidates came into the debate acutely aware of two different things. one, election night is only a way, -- week away, and roughly half the electorate are yet to make up their minds on who they will for for governor. find throughout these two and that was true tonight on the debate stage where they mixed it up pretty good. for a recap of tonight's debate, let's send it out to jean mackin. jean: sandwiched in between state issues the candidates kept coming back to experience. dissecting each other's resumes. colin van ostern and chris sununu debated which executive councilor has the best experience. >> his only job in the past decade is working for the sununu family.

like the manchester chamber of commerce. business leaders who want to see see their investments growth. those are important investments we need to make. jean: and there was one final flurry over the business background that would best fill the corner office. >> opposing medicaid expansion, opposing planned parenthood funding, opposing having a state minimum wage. >> look. we've created jobs at waterville. >> this a great example of not having any business experience and background. he's taking a single data point that he doesn't understand. josh: gentlemen. i wish i didn't have a clock. jean: but indeed, josh did have a clock. when asked if they have future plans to seek higher office outside of the governors seat

josh i imagine one the more : difficult things to do is to step off the debate stage and then go into a spin room and and and grade their own performance. that's what both of them did. they each gave themselves high marks. >> i thought the whole debate was distilled into the final two answers. for me this campaign is about doing what's right by the people of new hampshire, and putting politics aside, and i was glad to share some of the stories of along the way on issues that are big differences between me and chris sununu, planned parenthood funding, solar and renewable energy projects, medicaid expansion. you know these are policies but they also impact people's lives. >> when we have a debate, it's all about being giving straight answers every single time. every time they asked my opponent a question, he shucked it, and moved to the left and moved to the right and wouldn't answer anything straightforward. debates are a chance about, a chance for people to actually engage and understand what we are about, what the issues are about.

every turn so i think we did very well. josh: i'm joined by my colleague who was observing this debate. you were able to sit back and soak it in. what was your take on it? >> we have two rising stars in their separate parties who really needed to break to some of the noise of the presidential race and the senate race. it's such an important issue, governor of new hampshire. i think they both got their messages out. they did separate themselves on issues. there was a lot of talk about the basic issues facing the state. josh: but there was a difference of style as well. it really does boil down to the voters who are undecided. john: right. chris sununu was maybe a little
