a are concerned, they say they see accidents at this intersection maybe once every other month. this one today resulted in a death. police say it happened at around 4:30 this afternoon. a car, turning right onto route 111, struck another vehicle, pushing it into on coming traffic. the result? a head on crash that left a 69-year-old female passenger dead. and the drivers of the 3 cars in the hospital. >> it is a high speed road, route 111 and that's a dangerous and unfortunately, throughough the years we've had some serious motor vehicle accidents there. >> route 111 has a speed limit of 50, but the residents around here say, they see cars going much faster. >> >> it is a busy intersection, i'm honestly surprised there isn't a stoplight there. every other one has a light except this one. at least the very least, maybe a blinking yellow light. >> bad drivers.

performance. that's what both of them did. they each gave themselves high marks. >> i thought the whole debate was distilled into the final two answers. for me this campaign is about doing what's right by the people of new hampshire, and putting politics aside, and i was glad to share some of the stories of some of the people i have met along the way on issues that are big differences between me and chris sununu, planned parenthood funding, solar and renewable energy projects, medicaid expansion. you know these are policies but they also impact people's lives. >> when we have a debate, it's all about being giving straight answers every single time. opponent a question, he shucked it, and moved to the left and moved to the right and wouldn't answer anything straightforward. debates are a chance about, a chance for people to actually engage and understand what we are about, what the issues are about. colin avoided the questions at every turn so i think we did very well. josh: i'm joined by my colleague

soak it in. what was your take on it? >> we have two rising stars in their separate parties who really needed to break to some of the noise of the presidential race and the senate race. it's such an important issue, governor of new hampshire. i think they both got their messages out. they did separate themselves on issues. there was a lot of talk about the basic issues facing the of style as well. it really does boil down to the voters who are undecided. john: right. chris sununu was maybe a little more animated. colin may be a little more cerebral, i'm not going to make any judgments on that. they just came off with different styles and that is

shelley: now to the battle against isis. and for the first time in two years, iraqi forces are on the outskirts of the city of mosul. troops have taken control of the islamic state's television building. and they are preparing for door-to-door combat in the inner city. authorities expect weeks if not months of more fighting before the city is completely retaken. a statewide warning isng tom: health care providers are now on the lookout after multiple cases of a potentially deadly strep infection. four men have been found with strep a in the last 10 days. all are drug users. and are in southern and central new hampshire. now, the state wants to know how they became infected. >> maybe they have had close contact with one another, but we are also of course concerned whether the drugs themselves were contaminated at some point.

the hospital for treatment. and health experts say heroin users are often less likely to seek medical help. shelley: pregnant women fighting with substance abuse will soon have a new resource. the program at the pregnancy care center at catholic medical center launches next year. it will provide treatment and recovery services for mom through delivery. and care for the child. the program has incentives for mothers so as they take steps , toward recovery they can earn , points to get items like car seats. pack a or carriers. >> the communication is better, you really get to know your patient. you'll know what's best for the patient and the baby in the long run. >> we're here to help the mothers 24-7. we have a kitchen. we have a washer and dryer for them. we encourage them to be the experts on their babies. shelley: a 25,000 dollar grant from dcu is helping support the program.

volunteers were honored for their service to their communities. the annual spirit of new hampshire awards were hosted by the group, volunteer n.h.. wmur's mike cronin introduces us to some of those recognized tonight in concord. mike: the profile of a new hampshire volunteer isn't defined by age. take 8-year-old jimmy and eleven-year-old delaney. the brother, sister duo volunteer for the carriage barn. an equestrian center for horses. >> we did like a week of camp and then we started liking it. so we kept on doing it and doing it. mike: they help with lessons. giving their time to benefit others. >> when we're helping, we're always having fun and it gets fun bringing in the horses and bringing in shavings. >> i love it because you know that you're doing something good and it's just rewarding in itself. mike: their work is among the more than 4 thousand volunteers, groups, schools and businesses were recognized tonight in concord as part of the 14th annual spirit of new hampshire awards.

being thanked. >> see the smile on their face, knowing that i did something good for them, i go to bed at night and i feel good about myself. mike: at the age of 84, he helps other seniors 5 days a week, driving almost of them around on 10 errands. more than one hundred awards were given out at the capitol center for the arts. honoring volunteers for stepping up to serve others. >> over 300,000 individuals volunteer their time to make nh a better state to live in. their efforts are making a >> difference in their communities. >> it's really about shining a spotlight on service and recognizing folks who don't even realize the impact that they make. mike and while they don't look : for any credit that's what , they got tonight. a well earned celebration. >> we don't often get a lot of recognition. we often do a lot of the work that goes unnoticed.
