threw a cigarette in the mulch outside the store starting the fire. all right, we are on to commitment 2016. tonight was a final granite state debate before election day on tuesday. the candidates for the second congressional district, incumbent democrat, congresswoman annie kuster and her challenger republican jim lawrence took the stage. wmur's jean mackin joins us live outside the new hampshire institute of politics with the biggest moments on tonight's debate. >> it was a relatively cordial debate between democrat annie kuster seeking her 3rd term. and her republican opponent jim lawrence who has served 3 terms in the state house. the congressional candidates covered the drug crisis, health insurance and northern pass. their exchange over protecting social security pointed to a central argument between incumbent democrat annie kuster and republican challenger jim

has been in congress 4 years and she's failed to introduce one piece of legislation to address this critical issue. >> this is something i work on, and will continue to work on. it's again back to republican tea party that's blocking progress on this issue. >> i don't think we can blame the other party for everything that goes wrong with what we fail to do. >> they stand apart on gun control with different views on the cause ri the fix. >> if you are on a terrorist watch list u should not be able to gbuy a gun that causes mass destruction of life in orlando and i think there's broad agreement the american people feel that way. >> none of these provisions that we are now proposing would have prevented that act from happening. however what would hep is if law , enforcement had the resources that it needed.

presidential elections. >> that's right, tom. according to the state 4 years ago new hampshire was 3rd in the country with about 68% of voters going to the polls behind only minnesota and wisconsin. that number could be even higher this year. secretary of state bill gardner says new hampshire could make history tuesday. >> if what i'm predicting turns out, it'll be a record. >> during february's presidential primary he says more than 542,000 people voted. in just a few days gardner go to the polls. over the past 3 presidential elections new hampshire's voting turnout has been among the top 5 in the country. with several important state elections in addition to choosing our next president another strong showing of voters is expected. we've got a pretty good record and so i don't expect there to be anything different. as poll workers prepare for crowds state leaders are also

live in the studio, mike cronin, wmur news 9 were all nine. >> an army special forces soldier from new hampshire has died in florida. the military announced today that staff sergeant david whitcher of bradford died during a dive training exercise off key west on wednesday. the cause of death is under investigation. staff sergeant whitcher was 30-years-old. he was deployed to afghanistan twice while serving in new hampshire's national guard. >> clouds and sunshine out there, but during the afternoon, the sun did go to work and when the battle over the clouds. nice sunset. shots across the state. as we move on through the weekend, seasonably chilly right through the weekend into early monday before it starts to warm up a little bit monday afternoon and really warms up on tuesday.
