right now turnout continues to be strong as granite staters cast their ballots on election day. good afternoon. i'm sean mcdonald. erin: and i'm erin fehlau. thousands more are expected to show up throughout the evening. we'll have full coverage of that, and what's at stake in the election, in just a moment. but first, we have some breaking news in bedford, where police are investigating a bad car accident. aithorities say two men were hit while jogging and are in serious condition. wmur's naoko funayama is live with the latest details. naoko: it happened at around 7:00 this morning that right here on pembroke way. the joggers were coming up this side of the road, or coming down, and you can see that car there. police are in the process of contacting family members, so no names have been released just yet.

the driver of the car. the two joggers were taken to elliot hospital, where they are in serious condition. the bedford accident reconstruction team has been on the scene and is continuing to investigate the accident as we speak. >> preliminarily there may have been an issue on the windshield. that is under investigation. we want to remind everyone particularly at this time of the season that before you leave season that before you leave your driveway in the money, make so you can see clearly. we're not certain as to whether or not i was a factor but is being investigated. naoko: police say the injuries to the joggers are life-threatening and we will continue to update you on the story. police have closed this area of pembroke way between lancaster and campbell and they expect it to remain closed for the next

sean: all right, thanks. back to commitment 2016 coverage now. polls are open and busy. as we speak come thousands are heading out to cast their ballots. erin: while many locations are seeing fairly smooth sailing, others have had some issues. wmur's ray brewer joins us live in manchester with the latest. ray: if you are with us this morning you saw the lines stretch out the door. no waiting at all. but the moderators say things have been busy. about half of registered voters have cast ballots so far. in another ward in manchester they did have problems with their voting machine. >> we're not an early voting state. ray: however, across new hampshire the voters were up early. moderators were reporting long lines, and in some cases problems. at ward two in manchester, the ballot machine stopped working, forcing ballots to be placed in a cardboard box, and voters questioning the

going to put them in later and our vote will count. ray: by 9:00 in the morning, the machine was working, and poll workers were feeding the ballots into it eventually catching up. , in nashua the polls were also packed, which was great for jaimie teague and her bake sale. >> i got here at 5:45 to set up and it was all the way out to the street. this is the shortest it has been today. ray: there were two issues on erik fredrick's mind as he voted. >> direction of the country were issues important to george brizcky, but it wasn't just about the national races. >> the local elections especially, where we are at with our state reps and senate. ray: and then there is civic duty. >> it's such a privilege to be able to vote even if you don't like the candidates running. it's important to pick one and cast a vote cause if you weren't able to do that it would be terrible. ray: turnout could set a record

driving that. >> the role that we play at the beginning of the process and we seem to always in the end potentially be the decider. ray: as you take a live look at the polls, once again at ward one in manchester, make sure that when you come out to vote you have a photo id with you, and you might want to allow for a little extra time as well. although as you can see, if you are voting in ward 2 i reporting live in manchester, ray brewer, wmur news 9. sean: some granite staters had the honor of being the first in the nation to cast their ballots on this election day. midnight voting was held in three communities -- dixville notch, millsfield, and hart's location. eight ballots were cast in dixville notch, seven in person, and one absentee voter. hillary clinton edged out donald trump 4 to 2, with one vote for gary johnson and a write-in for

and 2012 republican nomimee mitt romney. the town kept with the tradition of 100% voter turnout. in hart's location, hillary clinton got seven teen votes, donald trump got 14, and gary johnson got 3. in the governor's race colin van ostern got 21 votes and chris sununu got fifteen. in the u.s. senate race, maggie hassan got 21 votes and kelly ayotte 17. and in the first congressional district race carol shea-porter and shawn o'conner, 8. erin: now for the millsfield results. in the presidential race donald trump got sixteen votes and hillary clinton got 4. eighteen people voted for chris sununu in the governor's race and 3 voted for colin van ostern. in the u.s. senate race, kelly ayotte got sixteen votes and maggie hassan got 3. and in the second congressional district, jim lawrence got sixteen votes and annie kuster

i'm joined by jeremy from unh cooperative extension. jeremy has some great news for all of us who cut our own lawns and the fall, when comes to leaves. jeremy, you have got the honors. jeremy: leaves are those things you have to deal with some way or another. when i try to teach gardeners is they are a great resource and we want to make the most of them. gardeners of more beneficial ways. this is what we typically find. this is a valuable resource for your garden. great way to get organic matter into your garden. there are a few different things to do. ray: before we get to utilizing the leaves, i don't have to bag them anymore. when is it going to do for my

michigan state university, they looked at mulching those, and great benefits. it adds fertility to the lawn. it can do a great job over the course of about three seasons of controlling crabgrass and any line. -- dandelion. ray: awesome. you mention this is a valuable resource in terms of composting. how do i turn that garden material? jeremy: if you are going to compress them, now is the time to do it. if you want to compost your leaves can go ahead and mow, mulch them, and you need to rake that have been added to the compost pile. ray: do i need to add anything to get the process started or is it going -- all self-contained event?
