andy hershberger is also standing by. andy, described the mood behind you. john: you just heard heather's headquarters for trump and a lot more energy seems to be spilled over there at that headquarters. we are at the madison in manchester which is a hillary clinton watch party and colin van ostern's election night headquarters. we have been watching the hillary clin cheers when we heard some of the western returns from california and oregon, those sort of areas. largely tonight it has been a quiet and tense mood as people have continued to watch to see those electoral college numbers going up and down, up and down. we had ray buckley speak to the crowd maybe an hour or so ago,
11:05 pm
their support, encouraging them to stick around, which is expected to be a very long night. andy hershberger, wmur news 9. tom: another critical race tonight is the u.s. senate race. a close contest between kelly ayotte and maggie hass on. -- aggie hassan. adam: a buoyant mood where it is a joint party ayotte and chris sununu. things looking good at the moment. she has a 15,000-vote lead in the tally. the campaigns are looking ahead of that, looking at the final towns that are not in. there are democratic towns not in their. there are a lot left on the board for everyone. with the lead the republican candidates have at this point, they have a lot of ground to make up.
11:06 pm
one way or another. turns out tonight donald trump has been driving votes for the republican ticket, bringing this ticket up with him. in 2012 we submit non--- we saw mitt romney field of verizon center to near capacity and lose. tonight, trump could win new hampshire. the enthusiasm matching the votes this time around. potentially bringing a senate candidate and a gubernatorial candidate the mood is very much up at the capote center. let's go now to the democratic side of things in the senate race with jean mackin with cover hassan -- governor hassan's campaign. jean: they tell us they want to watch these razor thin results
11:07 pm
pulling up chairs and going theater style to watch the returns. music is blaring but not many people clapping or dancing. they took the podium a few mins ago and urged democrats to stick together and stay enthusiastic. governor maggie hassan would appreciate it and hillary clinton to. they know this race would have senate, which stands at 54 republicans, 46 democrats, and this race supposedly could sway the power in the u.s. senate. being watched very closely by supporters across the state of new hampshire and nationwide. we are here as the night draws on. back to you in the studio. jennifer: we also have breaking news to bring you. abc has called north carolina in

11:09 pm
said he has run his own race. you cannot deny the name recognition. sununu is well known in the state. chris sununu carved his own way in this campaign. he is going with his genial, speak from the heart personality and said he enjoyed campaigning. he has been unorthodox. he was mingling with the crowd anki tonight. this third term executive counselor is going up a first-term executive counselor, colin van ostern. shelley: if the campaign headquarters at chris sununu is getting louder, i can tell you the mood here is exactly the opposite. the evening here at colin van ostern headquarters started out
11:10 pm
van ostern in the lead. people started the evening very positive, very optimistic. that has changed. colin van ostern is running 45% of the vote as opposed to sununu's 50%, people are beginning to think that he could lose the race. they are holding onto democratic areas of the state have still yet to be counted. they are hoping that could make a difference. at colin van ostern headquarters is the fact that donald trump is doing so well in the national race. that is making people here feel even more nervous. that is the scene from here at colin van ostern headquarters. i will send it back to you guys in the studio. jennifer: let's get a closer look at the first congressional district race. now was 73% of precincts
11:11 pm
tight. ginter is hanging onto the -- guinta is hanging onto the lead. shawn o'connor holding on to 10%. he has maintained 10% throughout the entire evening. tom: let's go to mike cronin live in manchester. mike: a very close race in the first congressional district. there is a lot of energy in the room throughout the night at murphy's cap room on elm street in manchester. the night. there is still a good crowd. they have been watching these results come in with very close attention. it is a close race. it has certainly wound up to be another close finish between frank guinta and carol shea-porter.
11:12 pm
they have battled back and forth over the first seat in the congressional district. the campaign telling us it will probably be a long night as it is with many of the other races going on in new hampshire. they are waiting for a little more certainty before he makes any kind of official statement. we will keep you updated with any developments in manchester. mike cronin, wmur news 9. je shawn o'connor is in third percent -- in third place. tom: the campaign faced plenty of challenges. >> we had to pull at 10% or higher. we prove that i did have support of at least 10% of the district and i am tremendously grateful that we were able to overcome those hurdles to get here tonight. tom: at this point, o'connor says he does not know what is
11:13 pm
candidate, let's go to jennifer crumpton who is live at the carol shea-porter campaign. tom: jennifer: this one is a nail biter. carol shea-porter has be through this before. she made an appearance a short time ago to think her supporters for hanging in there. she is in this for the long haul. >> so we don't know yet. optimistic. there is no way to know just yet. we have been watching all of the returns for the other races as well and it looks like everything is still in play. i am optimistic and i hope that you are also. we will update u.s. soon as we have those numbers and we see what this means. jennifer: shea-porter did point
11:14 pm
to supporters when she heard the numbers out of manchester. she announced that manchester was especially sweet. we will be hanging in there. another long night for another very close race. jennifer crumpton, wmur news 9. back to you. jennifer: it has been said in this campaign that the second district might be a sure thing for the incumbent annie kuster. we have an watching instead what turned out to be a very close race with flip-flopping just a short time ago with a republican in the lead. it looks like annie kuster is holding onto a slim lead. tom: let's start with kristen carosa in concord. kristen: the mood here has certainly shifted over time in concord. at the beginning of the night, annie kuster did have a 12-point lead over public and jim lawrence. that started to change about
11:15 pm
tightening behind me. the jenkins estate has quieted down as we wait for more results to come in. kuster has held her seat since 2013 and is looking to secure a third term. she will be the first democrat ever to serve three terms in united house of representatives. she wants to continue working with veterans, seniors, and fighting about his take on the results so far tonight. >> not really. annie has run in a competitive district. we are feeling good about where things are. we are still waiting for things to come in. we are feeling good. kristen: the mood in concord changing overnight. we will watch the results as
11:16 pm
following the other campaign. jim lawrence. let's go to charisse. cherise: just as kristen said, the mood was changing in concord. so too has the mood changed in nashua. we have seen a bit of fluctuation throughout the night. people dismayed at the beginning of the night when concord numbers were coming in with jim lawrence being defeated quite a bit. mood has changed here. did take the lead by 48% for just a little bit. annie kuster has regained that lead but people here very excited. they came into this race knowing that jim lawrence did not have the name recognition that incumbent annie kuster had. they are proud of this grassroots campaign.
11:17 pm
heavily democratic. maybe tim a little more so because concord is in the district. as you have seen the towns, we have been closing the gap and now we are within two percentage. two percentage points. stay tuned. cherise: that annie kuster has. they are particularly eager to see nashua numbers. cherise leclerc, wmur news 9. tom: an e-mail glitch forced one town to extend polling hours. first, let's go to political director josh mcelveen who will give us insight into pretty much the upside down nature of just about everything tonight. josh: i hate to even bring up
11:18 pm
of them saw this coming. donald trump easily the most unpopular presidential candidate in the history of presidential politics in new hampshire and he is pulling candidates that we never thought across the finish line. i'm joined by andy smith. everyone underestimated just how mad people are and sick of the status quo. andy: i think that is the case. it is not hampshire. it kind of reminds people of the 1980 election. you had an economy that was flat and stagnant, we had high unemployment rates, high inflation rates, and jimmy carter is not a popular president but he was leading in the polls the week before because people not trust ronald reagan. last week and they went with reagan.
11:19 pm
mood of the country can sometimes be much more powerful than the candidates at the top. josh: but this is a different scenario. questions about his temperament, questions about his intelligence, his overall demeanor. people are willing at this point to take a big chance to shake things up and do something different. andy: certainly clinton, by selling herself as the candidate that new washington and the rest of the world, that was not something that was in the general election. josh: the way in new hampshire things are trending, it looks like it will be a good night for kelly ayotte, chris sununu, and republicans up and down. will send it back to you. tom: an e-mail glitch forced one town to extend his polling hours tonight. jennifer: coming up, what was in
11:20 pm
11:21 pm
jennifer: now to other news. two joggers being treated for serious injuries after they were hit by a car in bedford. tom: thomas and gregory were running on pembroke way around 7:00 a.m. when a 16-year-old driving a suydam hit them from behind. investigators are looking at whether speed or frost on the windshield played a role >>. >> we want to remind everyone,
11:22 pm
season, before you leave your driveway in the morning -- we're not certain as to whether that was a factor, it is being investigated. tom: neighbors say the running partners ran that route every day. no charges have been filed. voting hours in dover were extended tonight after the city sent an e-mail with the wrong information. jennifer: jamie staton isn't over and that is where democrats filed a court challeng of dover stated the polls would close at 8:00 p.m. they realize the mistake and sent to group more -- sent two more e-mails to try to correct it. democrats wanted to make sure every last person could vote, so they fired an injunction asking to extend voting and they won. >> they took corrective action, sending out multiple e-mails following that to correct it.
11:23 pm
mistake that corrective action was adequate. the democrats didn't. they brought it to court. the judge ruled that the polls should stay open until 8:00. >> we thought it was an attempt to disenfranchise hundreds if not thousands of voters. anyone who wants to vote this year needs to be able to vote. jamie: 7:00 was labeled with an eh encased in needs to be an exclusion. we visited four polls and found that were 29 voters. jamie staton, news 9. jennifer: some records were set when it came to voter turnout. this is a picture from durham. in that community, they set a new record by 5:00 p.m.
11:24 pm
people were lined up in ward one before polling opened this morning. the moderator said she has never seen so many people come vote in the 15 years she has held the job. >> we had 6524 registered voters in this ward. we have registered as of right now 566 new voters and our total right now is 5994. polls. jennifer: wow. the numbers are staggering. tom: big-time numbers. the weather was sunny and clear for most of election day. there are some clouds on the way. jennifer: mike will be in the
11:26 pm
11:27 pm
tonight as it was last night. we are in the 30's to around 40. seasonably chilly. we will drop maybe two or three degrees from where we are right now. clouds are pressing in from the west with a few scattered showers. you know the story about the drought? even know we have seen it easy in some parts of the state, we need more rain. this front will not deliver all that much. just scattered showers in some parts of the state tomorrow and it clears out for the rest of for veterans day. a cold start over the weekend. maybe a sprinkle south on the weekend. seasonal to finish. jennifer: breaking news. abc news has called utah for donald trump. utah being called for donald trump. tom: a lot of at stake on this election night. this hour we have very few winners. we don't know.
11:28 pm
11:29 pm
11:31 pm
abc calling florida for donald trump. y-axis is how the electoral map looks not -- >> and this is how the electoral map looks right now. in the u.s. senate race, kelly ayotte still leads by two points. that's with 63% of the vote in. >> in the second congressional district, annie kuster holding onto the lead. bottom-line, things are way too close to call. although this one is now a five-point spread between chris
11:32 pm
11:35 pm
those pictures tell the story. that's the hillary clinton campaign, you see tears at the clinton campaign. now, at the trump headquarters, you hear the cheers, you see the hats. donald trump has 222 electoral votes to 209 for hillary clinton. it's getting close. >> and in the war room in trump tower, they're getting very excited. we said conventional wisdom was wrong, and so is political science. everyone said they weren't ready for prime time, but they made
