marijuana after stopping a car for speeding on interstate 95 in north hampton this week. police arrested the driver 27-year-old nicholas leone of worcester, massachusetts and say he was planning to sell the pot. troopers say the drugs are worth about $21,000. they also seized more than $31,000 in cash. more than 300 people have now died from drug overdoses in new hampshire this year. and the state medical examiner's office says more than two thirds of those cases involveto -- fenton now --. another 98 cases are still pending toxicology results, and officials are predicting nearly 500 overdose deaths in the state this year. erin: police in burlington, vermont are now offering a $500 reward after a cat was found hanging from a tree in a city park. tiki's owner says he last saw his 8-year-old cat nearly two

sean: light bulb fell onto some cardboard yesterday, sparking a massive fire at a former steel mill in western new york. more than 100 firefighters struggled to contain the flames at a complex that now houses several businesses. the building is six blocks long and was engulfed in flames. look at that roof collapse. local residents were told to stay inside and smoke could be seen for miles. wildfires across parts of the southeast u.s. are creating health concerns, because of all the smoke in the air. this was the view over atlanta yesterday.

gusting at about 25 miles our. saturday, despiteful sunshine we are talking temperatures only -- despite full sunshine we are talking only temperatures in the 40's. on sunday, back in the low and mid 50's. a ridge of high pressure starts to had our direction which means temperatures in the 50's for most parts of the state next week. we start off in the 20's and you will notice the trend is for temperatures at or below the average for the weekend. we will moderate a bit by sunday with sunshine, and temperatures next week mid and upper 50's monday and tuesday. there is a chance there could be a system located just off shore wednesday and thursday with a few showers, but a relatively dry forecast after tomorrow. erin: and pretty mild for the

areas of arctic air expected within the next 10 days or so. erin: we want to check in with our top stories. ray: governor maggie hassan has a new job as the new senator for new hampshire. there was less than a 1000 difference in vote counts, but ayotte did concede the race. this means new hampshire has the first congressional delegation in the country. erin: state police say they found more than seven pounds of marijuana after stopping a car for speeding on interstate 95 in north hampton this week. police also seized more than $31,000 in cash. concord is celebrating the completion of the main street reconstruction project. a ribbon cutting ceremony is set for 4:00 this afternoon. sean: coming up on daybreak, a new england hospital is celebrating a rather unique birth.

sean: daylight saving time created a rather unique situation for a family in erin: it was bound to happen. emily and seth peterson welcomed twin boys at cape cod hospital early sunday morning. samuel was born at 1:39 a.m. and his brother ronan entered the world 31 minutes later after the clocks changed, meaning his official birth time is 1:10, before his older brother. the hospital says this is the first time they have had this happen. how cool is that? they have quite the story to

hassan declared victory, senator kelly ayotte conceded the race, giving up her chance to ask for a recount. in a statement ayotte said in part "now more than ever, we need to work together to address our challenges. the voters have spoken and now it's time all of us to come together to get things done for the people of the greatest state in this nation and for the greatest country on earth." governor hassan told news9 that the votes that stood between ayotte and another term in the senate amounted to only 1/10 of a percentage point, with hassan leading ayotte by just 1,023 votes according to the certified results. former house speaker bill o'brien is not shy about his opposition to ayotte who he says , turned her back on new hampshire republicans after she became a senator. he voted for conservative activist aaron day, and says he knows other leading republicans

that she could depart from the commitment that she made to all of us when she first was elected, to take new hampshire conservative values to washington. ray: now, as governor hassan prepares to head to washington, she's vowing to work for all people, no matter what their party affiliation. >> i believe we are stronger when we listen to all voices and all perspectives. ray: back in 2012, the granite state was the first to elect an all-femaon and now with maggie hassan winning the senate race new , hampshire will now have the nation's first, all-female, all-democratic, congressional delegation. in the studio, ray brewer, wmur news 9. sean: people in massachusetts have voted to legalize recreational marijuana, and that has some people in new hampshire wondering if the granite state should follow suit. starting december 15, it will be legal to grow and possess up to

massachusetts homes and one ounce in public. the executive director of new hampshire compassion.org has been a leader in the push to legalize medical marijuana and he says it would not be a bad for new hampshire to have a recreational pot law similar to massachusetts. >> there are a lot of people who use the substance in a safe and fine fashion, and if we stop trying to make it the bogeyman we will start to recognize that it is just a substance like anything else. sean: pot is a gateway to harder drugs. recreational marijuana was also on the ballot in maine but the vote was too close to call and officials say there will likely be a recount. erin: new on daybreak rochester , police are asking for your help in tracking down a hit and run driver. around 7:00 last night officers say a 26-year-old man was walking along betts road when he was hit by a car. the driver took off, leaving the victim lying on the ground. he was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. police are now looking for a dark colored sedan with possible

anyone with information is asked to contact the rochester police department. one of two joggers, hit by a car in bedford tuesday morning, is still in very critical condition. the second victim is said to be improving and has been moved out of intensive care. police say they were hit by a 16-year-old driver. they are now looking into whether frost on the windshield may have been a factor. sean: state police are investigating a deadly crash on i-93 in thornton. troopers say 2ar morning after his suv went off the road and hit some trees. police say it does not appear that alcohol or speed were factors in the crash. we do have an update now to a story we first told you about last month. a belmont police officer who fired his gun while attempting to arrest a man is now on paid administrative leave. on october 28, the belknap county attorney's office says the officer was trying to arrest

game. both of them were killed in the crash. basler was off-duty at the time. erin: actor brad pitt has reportedly been cleared of child abuse charges. an investigation was launched following an alleged incident, involving pitt and his 15-year-old son on a private plane. angelina jolie filed for divorce days after that alleged incident. she is now seeking sole custody of the couple's six children. sean: doctors are issuing a warning about vitamin d. they say manop need more of the vitamin than they actually do. they say less than 6% of americans, ages one to seventy are deficient in vitamin d, and only 13% are in danger of not getting enough. too much of the nutrient can lead to high levels of calcium in the blood which can cause nausea, kidney stones and other problems. doctors recommend getting 600 to 800 units a day from food or supplements. erin: researchers have uncovered a possible trigger for some

a recent study found that when a pregnant woman's water breaks to early the culprit seems to be , abnormal calcium deposits that make the amniotic sac prone to rupture. more research is needed to prove if this really plays a role in pre-term birth and if so, what can be done about it. sean: turning now to sports, the celtics took on the wizards in washington last night. early on the wizards jumped out to a the first quarter. but the celtics played much better in the second outscoring washington 35-24. still, boston never took the lead and the wizards easily won the game 118-93. the celtics host the knicks tomorrow. erin: this should be a great game. the patriots host the seattle seahawks on sunday night football, and it will be a great one. this will be a rematch of the patriots win in super bowl 49. the pats are favored by 7 and a half points.
