i'm sean mcdonald. what a day yesterday. an incredible election day. last night, on the football field, it got chilly. kevin: there was a breeze that has lightened cents. that sets up a nice start to the day, with temperatures near the freezing mark across a good part of the state, and mainly fair skies. a blend of sunshine and clouds with the next front approaching overnight. temperatures early this morning within a few degrees of 32, and eventually, into the climbing back to teaser site of 50, with light wind out of the west and southwest. we will talk about the next front and what it means for the weekend. for a look at the morning drive first, here in the granite state, we're joined live by 95.7 wzid's deb davidson. good morning, deb. deb: good morning, kevin. if you are starting your commute and getting ready to jump on interstate 93 or 89, both of those major highways are looking good as you make your way through the state. we are not seeing any problems on the spaulding turnpike or on

southbound from the state line down to exit 42, due to several crashes. for hundred 95 southbound -- 495 southbound also very heavy through the lowell connector due to an earlier crash. this is brought to you by bernie and phil's home of fine furniture. i am deb davidson for 95.7 the vizio d. sean: donald trump is headed to the oval office today. the president elect will meet with president obama to start discussing the transition of with michelle obama. erin: this comes just hours after massive protests broke out across the country, including boston, where an estimated 10,000 people filled the streets, upset about the results of the election. abc's elizabeth hur reports. quick donald trump, go away. elizabeth: a divided america, on display from new york to philadelphia, chicago and los angeles. protesters out in force less than 24 hours after that election stunner.

elizabeth: this morning, donald trump is making his first trip to the white house as the new president-elect, promising to be a president for all americans. mr. trump: to all republicans and democrats and independents across this nation, i say it is time for us to come together as one united people. elizabeth: trump will be the nation's 45th president after beating hillary clinton, who now urging her followers to support the president-elect. -- to support her former opponent. mrs. clinton: we have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought. donald trump is going to be our president. we owe him an open mind and the chance to lead. elizabeth: and president obama is echoing that message, inviting his successor to the white house. pres. obama: it is no secret that the president-elect and i have some pretty significant differences.

success in uniting and leading the country. elizabeth: 71 days to go until inauguration, but the transition process starts today, and trump is not only meeting with president obama, but also with speaker ryan. elizabeth hur, abc news, washington. erin: democrats picked up a couple of seats in the u.s. senate, including here in new hampshire. sean: this went down to the wire. incumbent kelly ayotte conceded an incredibly close race yesterday afternoon to governor maggie hassan. the final numbers show hassa votes. wmur's ray brewer is here now with reaction from both camps. ray? ray: well, sean while the , results were very close, senator kelly ayotte did concede the race, giving up her chance to ask for a recount. the difference in the vote count was just 0.1%. governor hassan says the call from ayotte was warm and gracious. this also means that new hampshire now has the first all-female, all-democratic congressional delegation in the country, with jeanne shaheen,

and now governor hassan. the governor saying she looks forward to getting to work in washington representing the granite state. gov. hassan: i believe we are stronger when we listen to all voices and all perspectives. we are stronger when we are working to ensure that every person has the opportunity to share in our nation's success. ray: in a written statement, senator ayotte said, quote, "now more than ever, we need to work together to address our challenges. together to get things done for the people of the greatest state in this nation, and for the greatest country on earth." the 115th u.s. congress gets to work in january. in the studio, ray brewer wmur news 9. sean: ray, thanks. in other news state police say , they found more than seven pounds of marijuana after stopping a car for speeding on interstate 95 in north hampton this week. police arrested the driver, 27-year-old nicholas leone of

pot. troopers say the drugs are worth about $21,000. they also seized more than $31,000 in cash. well more than 300 people have , now died from drug overdoses in new hampshire this year. and the state medical examiner's office says more than 2/3 of those cases involve fentanyl. another 98 cases are still pending toxicology results, and officials are predicting nearly 500 overdose deaths in the state this year. erin: police ur reward after a cat was found hanging from a tree in a city park. tiki's owner says he last saw his 8-year-old cat nearly two weeks ago. police say they found tiki's body a few days later, dead with a wire around his neck. so far, investigators have not been able to determine who is responsible. the majority owner of the new england compounding center has been given a year of probation for her role in a deadly meningitis outbreak involving tainted steroids.

-- carla conigliaro's husband, douglas, was given two years of probation, and combined, the couple has to pay nearly $60,000 in fines. the couple admitted to hiding more than $123,000 after the company declared bankruptcy following the outbreak in 2012. police say two teenagers riding their bikes in southern massachusetts on tuesday found a man in the woods who had been shot. that man is in critical condition this morning, and now police are looking for a car with florida plates they believe is connectedth sean: a major construction project is officially compete in the state capital this morning. a ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for this afternoon to open the concord main street project. work started in april of last year, cutting four traffic lanes down to two while adding a cobblestone median, wider sidewalks, bike lanes, bright lights, benches, and trees. it has been a challenging year and a half for many businesses, but they are excited about the new downtown look.

>> you are watching wmur news 9 "daybreak." now, news 9 continues. kevin: thursday m mid-november day. partial sunshine, a light breeze out of the west and southwest. temperatures close to where they should be for this time of year, upper 40's to lower 50's. we will get the temper -- temperature regime going again. erin: a benefit of getting up at this all elective surgeries at hour. maine medical center in portland are on hold this morning because a patient may have a very rare but deadly disease. sean: the cdc is investigating a

consumption of or exposure to brain tissue, like from a cow. there have been cases where these diseases have been transmitted via surgical tools. >> what i can say is that it does not appear there is any reason for concern for most people. sean: maine med says all surgical procedures have been halted out of an abundance of caution, while they sanitize equipment and surgical areas. they hope to resume tomorrow. erin: underway, and we are starting in nashua, where several organizations are working to feed the hungry for thanksgiving. this is the 16th year that harbor homes has hosted a thanksgiving dinner for people in the area. and last year, they fed 350 people. well now, they are getting the menu together, but they need things like juice boxes, canned corn, pies, and other desserts. >> also things like hats, and mittens, and gloves, and socks, and things that -- as the weather is getting cold -- we

sean: investigators say a hot light bulb fell onto some cardboard yesterday, sparking a massive fire at a former steel mill in western new york. more than 100 firefighters struggled to contain the flames at a complex that now houses several businesses. the building is six blocks long, and was engulfed in flames. watch the roof collapse right here. local residents were told to stay inside, and smoke could be

health concerns because of all the smoke in the air. this was the view over atlanta yesterday. large fires are burning in at least five states this morning, and officials expect it will take several days to get the flames under control. and health advisories have been posted for the rest of the week. erin: the stock markets seem to have weathered the presidential election well despite concerns in recent days. in fact, nearly all major markets around the world are up. the dow gained more than 250 points yesterday and the outlook for wall street today is positive. and standard and poors has already affirmed the united states' credit rating, which is holding at double a plus. there is more bad news this morning for go pro already facing poor sales numbers. the camera maker is now recalling about 2500 karma drones because some of them have lost power in mid air. all of the drones have been sold since october 23. go pro is offering a full refund

sean:-- $800 gadgets. sean: starbucks is rolling out its annual red holiday cups around the world today but this year's designs are a little different. the company held a contest, asking customers to submit design ideas on instagram. a total of 13 were picked. 11 will be available here in the u.s. they feature things like snowflakes, santa, reindeer, and candy canes. two cake artists in chicago ar series title with a massive sugar cake. the master sugar artist at the chicaco french pastry school , which i need to tour soon worked with an intern on the , display. it took 45 pounds of sugar, 23 pounds of chocolate, and 10 pounds of rice crispies. that is a lot of rice krispies. it is on display at the school right now but will be presented to the mayor next week. we asked the question, would you eat it next week? erin: it might be a little

making, absolutely. we start up with mostly clear skies across the area and a light breeze. temperatures are seasonably chilly. we are in the 20's to lower range of the 30's early this morning. a good deal of clear skies. maybe a little valley fog early this morning. a few extra high clouds up in the north country. other than that, we are looking at a good deal of sunshine to start the day. should the a cooler day than we had yesterday much lighter wind through the afternoon, which will help. by early tomorrow morning, the next front starts crossing the north country and sliding south. winds will pick up out of the northwest behind, and that will bring in the cooler air which we will likely start the weekend with, and moderate sunday afternoon and beyond. fear skies early this morning with an area of high pressure settling in. light breeze out of the west and

southern parts of canada. behind that, the air right out of central canada. the friend yesterday was out of the midwest, so it did not have that cold punch of air with it. the northwest wind is going to mean business. temperatures anywhere from the mid-20's to the upper 30's, from north and western sections of the state all the way to the cost and. you can see the moderating trend i have that front as you go into central and southern parts of canada. there is chilly al to the gulf coast, but the coldest of the year in the lower 48 pretty much right overhead. temperatures ranging from 47 to 53. not much wind through the afternoon, only around five or 10 mph. partly cloudy skies to start this evening. temperatures will drop back into the 30's to lower 40's. i front will approach overnight. a couple of rain showers as quickly as the predawn hours.

30 mph tomorrow afternoon. as it continues to move away, the breeze remains up for the day on saturday. we start to moderate after a chilly start on sunday. temperatures this afternoon going up to either side of 50, and then we will continue to see fair skies into this evening. a front moves through tomorrow evening. there will be a chance of snow there will be a chance of snow showers as the cooler air rushe mph tomorrow afternoon. they should be fairly light in the morning. from there, a chilly breeze continues for saturday. it moderates for sunday. a good bit of sunshine to start next week, with temperatures in the 50's, which is a bargain for this time of year. sean: if you are heading to outdoor events for veterans day, bundle up. kevin: it should be ok for the most part of the day. it is tomorrow afternoon that

given governor maggie hassan a new job as the next u.s. senator from new hampshire. the results were very close, hassan defeating incoming senator kelly ayotte by just 0.1%. but a lot did concede, giving up her chance to ask for a recount. the governor said she looks forward to getting to work in washington, representing the granite state. erin: state police say they found more than seven pounds of marijuana after stopping a car for speeding on interstate 95 in north hampton this week. police also seized more than $31,000 in cash. completion of the main street reconstruction project. a ribbon cutting ceremony is set for 4:00 this afternoon. sean: coming up on "daybreak" -- a new england hospital is celebrating a rather unique birth. a baby brother is technically older than the first born. ready to head out when others head home.

november 10. a beautiful sunrise and what should be a nice day for this time of year, then a few degrees of 50 and sunshine and clouds for the afternoon. we are looking for the next cold front tomorrow. changes for the weekend coming up. sean: i know it is killing you not to catch those waves right now. you will get out there soon enough. 32 degrees, right now. daylight saving time created a rather unique situation for a family in massachusetts. erin:ce twin boys at cape cod hospital early sunday morning. samuel was born at 1:39:00 a.m. and his brother ronan entered the world 31 minutes later after the clocks changed, meaning his official birth time is 1:10, before his older brother. how cool is this? the hospital says this is the first time they have had this happen. so is the younger brother really older? sean: technically, but one of

in front of the tv and the car seat. veterans day is tomorrow, but nearly two dozen vets got to celebrate a little early. erin: 22 veterans in california just picked up their high school diplomas. they all served during world war ii, korea, or vietnam, and were not able to complete their education at the time because of their service. the vets and their famillies were also treated to dinner. so they are getting the star treatment. sean: the kind of forgotten sacrifice is now remembered again. coming up in the next half hour, some of the best bowlers in the world are in new hampshire right now. we'll check out the candlepin championships. erin: plus, an elderly woman has been waiting her whole life for this thrill. her reaction to finally riding a

>> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now, wmur news 9 "daybreak." erin: good morning to you on this thursday, november 10 as we watch the sunrise over goffstown. we are seeing temps in the 30's. a chilly morning again, but seasonably cold, right? sean: the kids at the bus stop. we will talk weather in a moment. first, our top stories. just one day after being declared the winner of the 2016 presidential election, donald trump is heading to washington, d.c. today to meet with president obama at the white house. governor maggie hassan will be heading to the nation's capitol next year after beating kelly ayotte in the u.s. senate race. and rochester police are asking for your help in tracking down a driver they say hit a pedestrian on betts road last night, and then fled the scene.

about to become you are looking good from concord to lebanon. interstate 93 and other highways in new hampshire are currently up to speed. this report is being brought to you by bernie and phil's. from the wzid traffic network i'm deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. ,erin: all right, deb. thank you. as donald trump continues to celebrate victory in the presidential election, some people are protesting his win. sean: that is right. thousands of anti-trump protesters gathered on boston co massachusetts state house and on to copley square. extra officers were on hand,but police say the protest was mostly peaceful. erin: today, president-elect donald trump will meet with president obama at the white house. sean: nikole killion is in washington this morning with a preview. nikole: the white house says the president and donald trump don't have an extensive personal relationship, so today's meeting could be interesting. pres. obama: the republican nominee is unfit to serve as president.

obama. nikole: after months of attacks on the campaign trail, this morning, the president and president-elect try to bury the hatchet. pres. obama: now, it is no secret that the president-elect and i have some pretty significant differences. but, remember, eight years ago, president bush and i had some pretty significant differences. nikole: but just like his predecessor, president obama is pledging a smooth transition of power when he meets with donald trump. mr. trump: it is time for us to come together as one united people. nikole: trump's wife melania also meets with first lady michelle obama. then, mister trump and vice president-elect mike pence head up to capitol hill for a sitdown with house speaker paul ryan. rep. ryan: he turned politics on its head and now donald trump will lead a unified republican government. nikole: today's meetings come against the backdrop of a divided electorate, as anti-trump protests erupted in cities around the country. hillary clinton accepted defeat with this message --

we owe him an open mind and the chance to lead. nikole: clinton is offering to work with president-elect trump, but she acknowledged her loss is painful, and will be for some time. in washington, i'm nikole killion, wmur news 9. sean: meantime governor maggie , hassan will be stepping into a new role next year after defeating kelly ayotte in the u.s. senate race. erin: senator ayotte conceded to hassan yesterday afternoon. the race was extremely close. in the end, only 1,023 votes separated the politicians. ray brewer joins us live in the studio now to tell us how both sides are reacting to hassan's win. ray: as you might imagine, the republican party is not happy to have lost that representation in washington and some are already , looking ahead to 2020. gov. hassan: i am proud to stand here as the next united states senator from new hampshire. ray: hours after governor maggie

a recount. in a statement, ayotte said in part, quote, "now more than ever, we need to work together to address our challenges. the voters have spoken, and now it's time all of us to come together to get things done for the people of the greatest state in this nation, and for the greatest country on earth." governor hassan told news 9 that the concession phone call with ayotte was warm and gracious. the votes that stood between ayotte and another term in the with hassan leading ayotte by just 1,023 votes, according to the certified results. former house speaker bill o'brien is not shy about his opposition to ayotte, who he says turned her back on new hampshire republicans after she became a senator. he voted for conservative activist aaron day, and says he knows other leading republicans did the same.

that she could depart from the commitment that she made to all of us when she first was elected to take new hampshire conservative values to washington. ray: now, as governor hassan prepares to head to washington she's vowing to work for all , people, no matter what their party affiliation. gov. hassan: i believe we are stronger when we listen to all voices and all perspectives. ray: back in 2012, the granite state was the first to elect an all-female congressional delegation. and now with maggie hassan winning the senate race, new all-democratic congressional delegation. in the studio, ray brewer, wmur news 9. sean: people in massachusetts have voted to legalize recreational marijuana, and that has some people in new hampshire wondering if the granite state should follow suit. starting december 15, it will be legal to grow and possess up to 10 ounces of marijuana in massachusetts homes, and one ounce in public. the executive director of newhampshirecompassion.org has

he says it would not be a bad for new hampshire to have a recreational pot law similar to massachusetts'. >> i think there are a lot of people that use the substance and that use it perfectly in a safe and fine fashion. and if we can stop trying to make it the bogeyman, then we will actually start to recognize that it is -- it's just a substance like anything else. sean: critics worry that smoking pot is a gateway to harder drugs. recreational marijuana was also on the ballot in maine, but the be a recount. erin: new on "daybreak" -- rochester police are asking for your help in tracking down a hit and run driver. around 7:00 last night, officers say a 26-year-old man was walking along betts road when he was hit by a car. the driver took off, leaving the victim lying on the ground. he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. police are now looking for a dark-colored sedan with possible front-end damage. anyone with information is asked to contact the rochester police

one of two joggers hit by a car in bedford tuesday morning is still in very critical condition. the second victim is said to be improving, and has been moved out of intensive care. police say they were hit by a 16-year-old driver. they are now looking into whether frost on the windshield may have been a factor. sean: state police are investigating a deadly crash on i-93 in thornton. troopers say 24-year-old ahmed al husseini was killed yesterday morning after his suv went off the road and hit some trees. troopers say it does not appear that alcohol or speed were factors in the crash. we have an update now to a story we first told you about last month. a belmont police officer who fired his gun while attempting to arrest a man is now on paid administrative leave. on october 28, the belknap county attorney's office says the officer was trying to arrest hayden moon on a warrant for failing to appear in court. as moon was escaping, he allegedly dragged the officer

hit. this morning, moon is still on the run. he's wanted on charges of felony reckless conduct and resisting arrest. erin: an apartment owner in keene is facing a housing discrimination charge after he allegedly refused to rent a unit to families with children. the case came to the attention of the u.s. department of housing and urban development after a married couple filed a complaint alleging that allan saari denied them the opportunity to rent the apartment. they c t that he was not interested in renting to anyone with children and had just evicted a family with children because they were too loud. saari denies the accusations. sean: coming up on "daybreak," warning for those you who take vitamin-d. doctors say you may be getting too much of the nutrient and that could lead to health problems. erin: and an exciting event is taking place, right here in new hampshire. we'll tell you about the international candlepin bowling championships.

breeze into the afternoon. a front approaching tomorrow means pretty radical changes as we get into the weekend. we will have those details coming up. erin: a suspended massachusetts state trooper has been sentenced to four months behind bars after being convicted in connection with a deadly crash. sean: john basler was found guilty this week of drunk driving, reckless operation, and carrying a firearm while intoxicated. back in 2013, authorities say basler was driving in plymouth, massachusetts when a car drifted into his lane and the two vehicles collided head-on. the driver, susan macchi, and her 23-yea returning home from a red sox game. both of them were killed in the crash. basler was off-duty at the time. erin: actor brad pitt has reportedly been cleared of child abuse charges. an investigation was launched following an alleged incident involving pitt and his 15-year-old son on a private plane. angelina jolie filed for divorce days after that alleged incident. she is now seeking sole custody of the couple's six children. sean:

need more of the vitamin than they actually do. they say less than 6% of americans ages one to 70 are deficient in vitamin d, and only 13% are in danger of not getting enough. too much of the nutrient can lead to high levels of calcium in the blood, which can cause nausea, kidney stones, and other problems. doctors recommend getting 600 to 800 units a day from food or supplements. erin: celtics took on the wizards in washington last night. early on, the wizards jumped out to an 18-2 lead. they outscored boston 34-8 in the first quarter. but the celtics played much better in the second, outscoring washington 35-24. still, boston never took the lead, and the wizards easily won the game 118-93. the celtics host the knicks tomorrow. the patriots host the seattle seahawks on sunday night football, and it should be a great game.

degrees across a good part of the state early this morning. within a few degrees of the freezing mark early on, and what should be a pretty nice day. considering mid november, this is about where the numbers should land for this time of year. upper 20's for overnight lows, and highs each afternoon in the upper 40's to lower 50's. with that, a fairly light breeze out of the west and southwest at around five or 10 mph. back, with fair skies during the evening, only to have the front approach overnight. there could be showers after 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. in the north country. the front slides south and winds pick up out of the northwest and will be gusting tomorrow afternoon at even 30 mph for veterans day. from there, clearer skies for saturday. it will come with a breeze out of the west and northwest there the afternoon.

-- around 10-20 mph. sunday should provide a little more warmth. temperatures will climb back into the low and mid 50's. that is the air mass place for the first half of next week. today, pretty close to the norms for this time of year. the winds pick up tomorrow morning and eventually gust over 25 mph, feeding in the cooler air for tomorrow afternoon. both mornings over the weekend will be chilly. lows statewide in the 20's. sunday, and then we start moderating a bit by saturday. i sunday and monday, we start warming up. a thank you to the bobcats at barron elementary in salem, who i visited to talk weather with. fourth-graders have been doing a weather unit. as always, i merely review for them, talking water cycle, clouds, and tornadoes. get excellent questions about careers and television as well

i always tell them we are the very small fraction of meteorologist that are out there. are people doing research, flying in hurricanes, chasing tornadoes. i am not usually the one standing in two feet of snow very often. i am very happy being here with that large cup of coffee. erin: we could change all of that this winter, you know. sean: hurricanes. erin: i am sure they would be happy to switch. a school in baltimore is taking a different approach to discipli s meditation. sean: you like that, right? kevin has to do that when he is around me. if one of the elementary students acts up, they are sent to a place called the mindful moment room, where they are given a chance to recenter with a combination of movement exercises, breathing, and mindfulness. the program's creator says the kids' behavior slowly changes. >> a lot of overwhelming external stimuli and trauma that these kids have to face, so for them to have tools to better self-regulate to manage

mentally, physically, and emotionally. i think it just makes the climate of the school better for academics. sean: the holistic life foundation says it now wants to expand the program to other schools across the country. you know, i would buy into this. just unplug for a couple of minutes. let the mind relax. erin: they are going to want to be in detention now. sean: that is a good point.

erin: updating our top stories -- sean: governor maggie hassan race. ray: it was an extremely expensive and close race. in the end, the difference in the vote count just 0.1%. still, senator kelly ayotte did concede the race, evening of chance to ask for a recount. governor hassan says she looks forward to getting to work in washington representing the granite state. erin: rochester police are asking for your help in tracking down a hit and run driver. they say a door cut and colored car hit a man as he was walking

dark-colored car hit a man as he was walking on betts road last night. sean: a man facing charges after police say they found more than seven pounds of marijuana in his car during a stop on i-95 in northampton. the suspect was planning to sell the pot. erin: the city of concord is celebrating the completion of the main street reconstruction project. a ribbon cutting ceremony is set for 4:00 this afternoon. kevin: a blend of sunshine and clouds into the afternoon. temperatures starting in the upper 20's and lower 30's and finishing in the upper 40's and lower 50's. a ho-hum day for us. temperatures for a close to where they should be for this time of year. you notice the up and down temperature regime gets going again after a cold front arrives tomorrow morning. a chilly start moderating starting sunday. erin: nothing ho-hum about that shot. coming up next on good morning
