am deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. erin: deborah, thank you. police in manchester are celebrating what they are calling a major drug bust in the queen city. sean: investigators say they raided a major drug house and seized narcotics and weapons. wmur's ray brewer is live at the manchester police department. and, ray, how many people are facing charges at this point? ray: a total of nine people were taken into custody, six of them on drug-related charges, five when manchester police, along with their swat team, went to the building on orange street to execute a search warrant. investigators say they have been looking at the building for about three weeks, focusing on the sale of drugs including crack cocaine. now when officers entered the , building yesterday, they found 18 people inside, as well as an 18-month-old child. police say two guns were thrown

firearms and narcotics together, you know, that is alarming, because there is a level of violence any time that you have firearms, in which the dealer may be fearful of somebody stealing from him, another drug dealer, or are they preparing for a raid from law enforcement? ray: now, two people were hiding in a bedroom prompting police to , use tear gas to force them out. investigators season more than different drugs, and say the group had a very extensive setup and network for distribution. as for the young 18-month-old child, chief nick willard took care of that child personally until other family members arrived. reporting live in manchester, ray brewer, wmur news 9. erin: ray, thank you. protests broke out again last night in cities across the country, marking a second day of demonstrations following the election of donald trump as president. trump himself fired back on

this all comes after the president-elect spent hours at the white house, meeting with president obama. abc's kenneth moton reports. kenneth: trump's transition, not so peaceful. another night of protests against president-elect donald trump. smashed windows in portland, oregon. crowds took over the streets in oakland. in philadelphia and new york, they marched. quick this people, unfortunately, have to get over the results. he won. he won. kenneth: trump, tasked with uniting the country, tweeted, "just had a very open and successful presidential election. now professional protesters, incited by the media, are protesting. very unfair." but it's another trump tweet from four years ago that's resurfacing. trump said the night of president obama's reelection "we , can't let this happen, we

more humble president-elect met with president for the first time in the white house. pres. obama: we now are going to want to do everything we can to help you succeed. kenneth: trump also made the rounds on capitol hill meeting , with top gop officials and house speaker paul ryan. mr. trump: we're going to look very strongly on immigration, health care, and we're looking at jobs, big-league jobs. kenneth: trump on a tour while his ex-opponent was spotted on a nature walk. this heartbroken hillary clinton supporter went for a hike in chappaqua when she bumped into the former democratic nominee, out just walking the dogs. but there is still uncertainty for clinton. the capitol hill investigations into her private email server continue. and trump's team says he hasn't ruled out his promise to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate clinton. kenneth moton, abc news, washington. erin: it looks like leadership in the state senate will likely remain the same. the republican caucus yesterday unanimously chose senator chuck morse of salem to return as

2017-2018 session. and democrats chose senator jeff woodburn of whitefield to lead their party in the senate for a second term. sean: three people are recovering from serious injuries after a head-on crash in concord. police say a car and a pickup truck collided on elm street, near the intersection with horse hill road, just before 2:00 yesterday afternoon, trapping two people in one vehicle and the driver in the other. the cause of the crash remains under investigation this morning. facing charges this morning after police say he slammed his bus into a parked van and then drove off. officers say he didn't stop until passengers insisted, but then started driving again until passengers called police and the bus was stopped. no one was hurt, but police say they are looking into whether the driver was under the influence of prescription drugs. erin: police say they found a possible meth lab during an unrelated investigation at a used car dealership in derry.

route 28 was swapping inspection stickers onto cars that had not actually been inspected, and then selling the vehicles. but investigators say when they searched the business this week they also found chemicals and tools used to cook meth. right now, no charges have been filed, but that could change. police don't know if meth was being sold, or how many cars may have false inspection stickers. sean: a lot of granite staters are receiving their property tax bills this week, and many are seeing some surprising news. while some communities have raised taxes, rates in larger towns like derry, bedford, pelham, and merrimack are going down by as much as 11%. but there is a catch here. the chair of the town council in merrimack says that property values went up, so taxpayers will end up paying about the same amount. the good news is, their property is worth more. councilor: now that the bills are coming in, they're seeing the reality of the situation. in most cases, there's almost no difference in the tax bills. >> we just moved to merrimack

kevin: friday morning, november 11, veterans day starting with a band of clouds. a shower up north. behind this front, the winds picking up out of the northwest. there will be gusts over 30-35 mph this afternoon as colder air rushes in to start the weekend. we will have the details this weekend. sean: no gusts this morning. beautiful up there, very serene. today is veterans day, as kevin mentioned, and many communities have ceremonies or parades planned to hon our country in the military. erin: there are two state events starting at 9:00 this morning, in the hall of flags at the state house in concord. and that is going to be followed by the annual ceremony at the state veterans cemetery in boscawen at 11:00. it is open to the public, and typically runs for about an hour. and just in time for veterans day, there is a new tribute to service members at bishop brady high school in concord. this new wall was unveiled yesterday, dedicated to alumni of the school who have served. some gave their lives. several veterans whose names are on the wall were on-hand for the

three years ago, and organizers hope other schools will follow suit. sean: two bald eagles in florida grabbed national attention yesterday when they got stuck in a storm drain, and it appeared that one was protecting the other. however, experts say the two birds were actually fighting in midair, likely as part of a territorial dispute, and crashed to earth, each refusing to let go. a crowd gathered to watch as animal experts worked out a rescue plan. as you can backboard in there. eventually, one eagle flew away. the other is being treated this morning for puncture wounds to her leg and chest, and a cracked beak. a dramatic scene. a high school student in texas says she was paddled for refusing to stand up for the pledge of allegiance at school. 16-year-old carrie douglas says her refusal is a protest against national politics. she was sent to the principal's office for being disruptive and disrespectful, and then given the choice of detention or paddling. she chose paddling.

erin: eversource is warning customers of another scam this morning, involving people claiming to represent the company. eversource says many customers are getting phone calls and even in-person visits from people asking to look at utility bills, which carry information unique to each customer. eversource says its employees always carry company i.d., and contractors are required to carry documentation explaining their work. the cost of childcare continues to rise, now averaging more than

and new research shows that those costs are now creating a financial burden for more than a quarter of families with young children. the study from unh also shows that poor families spend an average of 20% of their income on childcare, more than double the national average. sean: the high tech product of the year in new hampshire has been announced. companies showed off a variety of impressive products to people in the business community yesterday, who then voted on the winner. the 2016 product of the year is the wi p device used to keep first responders safe when arriving to hazmat emergencies. >> the team and people that we have working for our company have worked really hard to get this type of recognition is very exciting. sean: products highlighted yesterday ranged from sensors for trains to a high-tech keyboard. pretty neat stuff there. nintendo is planning to stop selling its wii-u home console, though it is not clear when.

the showers up north early. it will have a good wind out of the northwest. that is going to pick up, gusting over 30-35 mph into the afternoon. the showers continue to bump up against the terrain and dry out a bit. southern areas of the state likely standing the chance of a three or four area band of clouds, with that brisk wind out there. cold enough parts of canada, it is cold enough for snow this morning. anything we see this morning will be in the form of light rain shower activity, starting to transition over to a couple of snow showers later this afternoon as the colder air starts to make its way and. temperatures in the 30's to lower 40's, depending on the amount of clearing skies you had overnight. we will continue to see the winds, which are sustained at 10-15 mph, start to pick up.

or 93. the highways are up to speed. very light volume on 293, 101, and the spalding. heading to massachusetts, all major highways are wide open and up to speed on this veterans day holiday. from the wzid traffic network i'm deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. ,erin: five suspected drug dealers are facing charges this morning after being arrested during a raid in manchester. police say it looks like they brought down a major drug house on orange street yesterday, seizing things like crack thousands of dollars in cash. ray brewer joins us live now at the manchester police department to tell us how this raid unfolded. good morning, ray. ray: good morning, sean. the investigation -- well, it started less than three weeks ago, as police were looking into the distribution of crack cocaine and heroin. in all, nine people were arrested, five of them accused of selling drugs.

manchester swat team executed a search warrant at an apartment building at 135 orange street. police took extra precautions after learning that some people associated with the investigation had guns. >> essentially, we had a drug operation here with numerous apartments part of their drug operation. it also included firearms. ray: during the raid, police say two handguns were thrown from the apartment building. a 3.6 grams of crack cocaine, and prescription pills. >> any a time that we see firearms and narcotics together, you know, that is alarming. the cause there is a level of violence any time that you have firearms, in which the dealer may be fearful of somebody stealing from him, another drug dealer. or are they preparing for a writ from law enforcement? ray: authorities also discovered

officers tossed tear gas into room. the two suspects then emerged, and were taken into custody without further incident. chief nick williard says the suspected drug dealers had an extensive setup. officer willard: the drugs were in one location, individuals were selling from another location, and others were employed in case they saw law enforcement. ray: a small child was also taken from one of the apartmenan there is no word yet on when the suspects will be in court. reporting live in manchester, ray brewer, wmur news 9. erin: all right, ray, thank you. the dea is warning granite staters about a deadly new street drug. its chemical name is u-47700, but it's often referred to by its street name, "pink." officials say the drug, which is a form of fentanyl, is linked to at least 46 deaths nationwide, including one here in new hampshire.

emergency action, placing the drug into schedule one of the controlled substances act. >> the problem right now is that there are a lot of different synthetic opioids being introduced. we don't know, necessarily, what is in any of them, because they are all being produced in clandestine labs. so you just do not know how they are going to react with each individual. going to interact with each other. and you don't really know what is in the many more. erin: this is a new form of fentanyl, discovered within the last year. and according to new hampshire's drug czar, it has shown up in a drug sample that was tested at the state lab. sean: new on "daybreak" -- franklin police have arrested a pair of suspected drug dealers. 41-year-old richard sargent and 34-year-old tasha sargent are both accused of selling heroin. they are each being held on $20,000 bail pending their arraignments next week. also new this morning, two men are facing charges in connection

mark perry is accused of breaking into the marro home center last month. another man, justin daisy, is also accused of burglarizing the marro home center, as well as howe motors. police say during his arrest, daisy was found in possession of a stolen gun. these arrests come as claremont police continue to investigate two other burglaries -- one at the t-bird mini mart, and the other at the head start preschool on charlestown road. erin: a nashua man is facing arlington, massachusetts say he impersonated an fbi agent in an attempt to get into a couple's home. police say gannon leblanc was wearing a black suit and an fbi hat when he knocked on the couple's door wednesday night. he allegedly said he was looking for a fugitive, and then asked to come inside and use the bathroom. the homeowners refused and called 911. >> officers located an illegal

and discovered a loaded smith and wesson 38 special handgun. erin: police say they also found leblanc in possession of a knife, zip ties, and a rope. his attorney said his client had those items because he was planning on going camping. sean: a man from maine is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase that ended in wolfeboro. police say the chase started in waterboro, maine when sheriff's deputies went to check on the bail status of 32-year-old andrew collins. when collins saw the deputies, he took off, leading them on a high-speed chase through several deputies laid down spike strips in wakefield, which blew out the tires on collins' vehicle. he eventually stopped on route 28 in wolfeboro, where he was arrested. erin: a derry mother and her son, who were targets of racially explicit vandalism over the last few weeks, got some unexpected support. the manchester motorcycle club organized a ride for seven-year-old eze obiora. they picked him up at

for a ride to get some frozen yogurt. police say they are still investigating the vandalism, but so far no arrests have been made. sean: today is veterans day, and in the spirit of giving, two town councilors in derry are trying to help homeless vets. joshua bourdon and richard tripp are trying to fill this garage with winter clothing this coming weekend. donations can be dropped off at 11 village brook lane in derry tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. they are looking for new or from boots and hats to gloves and socks. >> if we can make their lives a little bit easier by providing them the minimum necessities to get through a cold winter, then i can look myself in the mirror. sean: all of the donations will be given to veterans through the liberty house in manchester, in -- in manchester. erin: in honor of our nation's veterans several restaurants are , offering freebies today to the

at i-hop, vets can get free red, white, and blue pancakes from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. you can also get a free tall coffee at starbucks. friendly's is offering free "big to do" breakfasts or all-american burger meals. red robin is saluting veterans with free tavern double burgers and bottomless steak fries. olive garden and chili's are both offering free entrees from special menus. longhorn steakhouse is offering a free appetizer or dessert. and littles caesar's is offering free hot-n ready lunch combos from 11:00 until 2:00. sean: tonight, wmur is airing a veterans day telethon from 7:00 to 9:00. the second annual home base veterans day special will also be live-streamed on wmur.com. last year the telethon raised , more than $120,000 for home base. the organization helps service members, veterans, and their families recover from ptsd and related conditions. many of the injuries that soldiers come home with are not visible. erin: this organization does a

kevin: friday morning, november 11. a few breaks of sunshine as a band of clouds comes through southern areas. a couple of light showers up north. the winds are going to start picking up from north to south this morning. the will be gusting out of the northwest, at times over 30-35 mph through the afternoon. weekend forecast, coming up. sean: an investigation is underway in massachusetts this morning after a baby was found dead inside a home in marlborough. erin: sources say the baby was in bed with two adults who were found unconscious. they say detectives are now looking into the possibility that one of the adults rolled over onto the child. police say they're also investigating whether drugs may have played a role. at this time, there is no word on the condition of the 19-year-old woman or 23-year-old man who were found unconscious.

>> ? your faith was strong but you needed proof ? erin: cohen's son says his father passed away peacefully yesterday at his home in los angles. he was 82 years old. cohen was known for hit songs like "hallelujah," "suzanne," and "bird on a wire." he remained popular into his later years, touring as recently as last year, and releasing new album just last month. sean: people in maine will soon be able to use rat marijuana. the final results of a referendum that was on tuesday's ballot were announced yesterday. the vote was close, but in the end maine voters approved, making recreational pot legal for adults age 21 or older. under the law, maine residents will be allowed to cultivate, manufacture, distribute, test, and sell marijuana and marijuana products. legalization said it hopes that marijuana will be available in

remember voters in , massachusetts, california, and nevada also approved recreational pot. and on our facebook page this morning we posted a poll, asking , if you think recreational marijuana should be legal in new hampshire. at last check 78% of those who , responded said yes. 12% said no. 8% said they don't care either way. and 2% said they need more information before making a decision. erin: sad news for people in north conw local toy store has passed away. spunky the frog was a popular fixture at the toy chest. the store's owner says he passed away yesterday at the age of 28. he says spunky was a local celebrity who was loved by people of all ages. and he will be greatly missed. sean: 28. in sports the boston bruins were , back on the ice last night playing the columbus blue jackets at t.d. garden. before the game the b's honored , veterans day with medal of honor recipient ryan pitts dropping the ceremonial first

sean: ever get into the elevator, push the close door button, and nothing happens? well, there could be a good reason for that. according to a report by "the new york times," the door-close button doesn't actually work. sit down, everybody. the report says those buttons have not done anything since the introduction of the american with disabilities act in 1990. so it has been that long. firefighters and maintenance workers still have keys that make the close-door button work, but for the rest of us, it is not festivus, it is useless. there is a certain pattern. you think you can keep hitting it. but their dissatisfaction to do it. erin: i bet it is the button that is press the most in the elevator. kevin: it is worn down, and the door was trying to close, and you would apologize because you were trying to close it, but you

kevin: in a lot of ways. sean: you are stuck in a box with them. kevin: next on "new hampshire chronicle." there is a story there somewhere. a front continuing to slide south. for central and southern areas of the state, we will have an area of clouds and maybe a quick sprinkle or a light rain shower making his way through. even the you have the rain up north with the front coming through and the wind starting to pick up, got a beautiful sunrise along the seacoastar continuing to dive south east. precipitation is going to continue to slightly dry up, so we may see a quick shower in southern areas. we may see a changeover in some of the higher rain -- of the higher areas. win for everyone. we are expecting a gust as the front starts to come through. a couple of but -- a gusts over 40 mph, especially up in elevation. by late morning and into the afternoon, we will have the

erin: it is now 6:55. updating our top stories -- sean: five suspected drug dealers were arrested during a raid in manchester yesterday. here's ray brewer. ray: yesterday afternoon at an apartment building on orange street. investigators say they have been looking at the building for about three weeks, focusing on the sale of drugs, including crack cocaine. a total of nine people were arrested as a result of the raid, six of them facing drug-related charges, five for selling. erin: police say they uncovered a possible meth lab at a used car dealership in derry. investigators say they found chemicals and tools used to cook meth at auto alley on route 28. so far, no charges have been filed.

multiple charges after police in arlington, massachusetts say he impersonated an fbi agent in an attempt to get into a couple's home. officers say the suspect, gannon leblanc, was carrying a gun, a stun gun, a knife, and other items. his attorney said his client had those items because he was planning on going camping. erin: today is veterans day, and there are ceremonies and parades taking place across the state. the ceremony in the hall of flags is at 9:00 this morning, followed by a 11:00. kevin: front coming through early this morning. a band of clouds for southern areas between now and late morning. up north, the showers will continue to fade away, leaving us to gusty winds which have already started in the north country. there will be gusts over 35 mph. we cannot rule out a scattered power outage or two because of that. the cooler air rushes in tonight and tomorrow. a rebounding -- a rebound
