ground and assaulted her. the woman was able to fight back, and the man ran off toward the parking month. she was not seriously hurt. police are now looking for a white man between 18 and 25-years-old, about 6 feet tall, with shaggy, dirty blonde hair. he was wearing a dark hoodie and took off in a dark-colored four-door sedan. again, police say this appears to have been a random attack, and the woman not serious reporting live in lebanon, ray brewer, wmur news 9. sean: police in pelham are on the lookout for two men that say attacked another man with a fire extinguisher during a home invasion over the weekend. investigators were first called to an apartment building on nashua road early saturday morning because the fire alarm was going off, but then officers learned that two men forced their way into an apartment. the victim was treated for a cut to his head and a woman inside was not hurt. police say this appears to be a targeted attack and they do have

erin: dozens of firefighters will be back in the white mountain national forest this morning including a specialty team, to battle a large wildfire burning deep in the woods. the so-called covered bridge fire was first spotted saturday afternoon in albany and has now burned well over 100 acres along the saco river. flames could be seen from miles away, and crews are battling steep terrain, forcing them to call off efforts overnight. now this is just one of several , brush fires that burned over fires will still burn deeper, because we haven't had any substantial rain, so the ground is still pretty dry. erin: it's unclear how the fire in the white mountains started, but officials say it will likely take several days to get it fully contained. and for now, the covered bridge parking area and the boulder loop trail are closed because of the fire. sean: a lawsuit against phillips exeter academy is set to go to trial in federal court today. the mother of a former student alleges that the school

sex with another 15-year-old student. the lawsuit claims the school initially said the boy would be placed on leave, but then changed its mind. according to court documents, school officials believe the girl felt pressured to have sex. the teen is not facing any criminal charges. a strafford man accused of trying to kill another man last year is set to stand trial this morning. kevin hinrichsen is charged with attempted murder and first degree assault. police say he stabbed a 21-year-old man during an altercation in april of 2015 at a park-and-ride in northwood. the two men did know each other. and a man accused of leaving his two-year-old child in his car while he tried to run away from police in salem is due in court today. officers say they stopped 36-year-old anthony miele on friday for traffic violations, but then learned there was a warrant for his arrest in epping. they say that's when he ran. police finally used a taser to subdue and arrest him, and the

sean: a former british police officer is going for a swim -- a really long one. 38-year-old ben hooper is trying to become the first person to swim across the atlantic ocean, traveling about 2,000 miles from western africa all the way to brazil. this is video of him training over the last three years. he stepped into the water yesterday, and doesn't expect to step onto land again until march. he will spend about eight hours each day eating and slng and then he will hop back into the water to continue swimming. erin: i can't even imagine doing that, at all. erin: strong aftershocks continue to rattle new zealand this morning after a powerful magnitude 7.8 quake struck the south island yesterday. two people are dead, and there is significant damage in some areas. one government official calls it "utter devastation." however, it is far less than that caused by another earthquake in the area five years ago. officials say it will likely cost billions of dollars and take months to clear debris and make repairs, with one town completely cut off right now. and the quake is also causing problems for animals. take a look at this. these three cows were spotted stranded on a small island of grass, with all the ground around them collapsed into landslides. it is not clear right now what is being done to help the cows,

the snow at bretton woods yesterday to help fight hunger in new hampshire. the resort offered free lift tickets to skiers and boarders who brought a non-perishable food item to donate. the campaign was called "say goodnight to hunger." and judging by this picture, it looks like it was a huge success. bretton woods hopes to open for the season closer to thanksgiving. a ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for today to celebrate a huge expansion at the jackson ski touring center. the half-million dollar totaling nearly four miles, and eight new bridges. the cross country ski center hopes to open in about a month. sean: if you have been outside this morning or late last night, you probably noticed that the moon is especially big and bright. it is called a supermoon, and it happens every 13 months. but this is actually the biggest and brightest one we have seen in nearly 70 years. according to astronomers, the

before 9:00 this morning, so the view should be pretty good tonight as well. of course, it is weather dependent when you see this stuff, but it was beautiful tonight. kevin: i suspect the sunshine today will roll over into this evening, at least for a time later tonight, so you will be able to catch it. but do not get up after midnight expecting to see it, because we are expecting clouds to make their way into the area. almost nothing but clear skies this morning will set up sunshine through a good part of the day today. it comes withai temperatures into the 50's to lower 60's later today. a cooler start, but warm sunshine for the afternoon. superman -- the possibility of seeing that this evening as it rises, the clouds will be increasing after midnight from south to north. tomorrow afternoon, showers moving in from south to north, probably as quickly as lunchtime in southern areas. temperatures will slope back to little bit behind that. not a huge cool punch of air

so it will not have an opportunity to drag down cold arctic air. the next system out of the pacific northwest will provide the possibility early next week after it arrives over the weekend. temperatures 20's to lower 30's earlier this morning. fairly light wind as we go through the day. any early localized fog in those fog prone areas will be giving way to sunshine. across the lower 48, no huge funds in temperature, no dramatic cool downs. this afternoon, it is a matter southwesterly wind. it should feel very nice through the afternoon. again, there is the clear skies to start the evening, with high clouds starting to drift in mid-to-late evening tonight, and thickening up tomorrow morning. it will stop right before lunchtime tomorrow. a few showers will continue to creep northward later in the afternoon and into tomorrow evening. the height of this will be late in the day tomorrow, and early

be a couple of heavier downpours. i suspect if we see over 3/4 of an inch of rain fall from the system, it will probably be in eastern areas of the state. that lines up into maine and leaves clouds and later showers a possibility early wednesday morning. the clouds will hold tough into the afternoon. from there, we will continue to see that northwesterly breeze drive things out. for most, a quarter to maybe a third, possibly a half-inch of rain in for southeastern areas. of the state, that is your better chance of over 3/4 of an inch of rain, with a few heavier downpours. we slip back, but temperatures all the way through the week are likely at or above average. average high this time of year right around 50. we will have the afternoon showers lingering into tomorrow evening. clouds lingering wednesday, then giving back to sunshine for thursday and friday, with temperatures in the 50's likely starting the weekend with an

from concord. from the wzid traffic network i'm deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. ,sean: thanks. right now, lebanon police are on the lookout for a man they say attacked a woman while she was walking on a trail. erin: the attack happened around 5:40 last night on a trail off loop road, near dartmouth-hitchcock medical center. ray brewer joins us live in lebanon now. and ray, can you tell us how the woman is doing this morning? ray: she appears to be doing all right. police telling us that suffered only minor injuries, and declined medical assistance. now, police are trying to find the man who attacked her. police say it appears this attack was at random. around 5:40 last night, the 23-year-old woman was attacked while walking on a trail near dartmouth hitchcock medical center. she says the man came up behind her, threw her to the ground, and physically assaulted her. the woman fought back and the attacker eventually ran off -- fleeing down the trail toward the parking lot. he was driving a darker-colored car.

shortly after 11:00 last night at a house at 69 east road. when crews arrived, they say that there were heavy flames coming from the building. the house and everything inside it was destroyed. officials say the home was vacant at the time, and no one was hurt. several hours earlier, crews were called to a fire at a home on mount dearborn road. these flames broke out around 1:00 a.m., and the homeowner was asleep at the time. fortunately, the homeowner was able to escape unharmed, but the house was destroyed. sean: also new this morning, a group of hikers from fish and game officers say yesterday afternoon, a woman slipped and fell on an icy trail and injured her arm. the injury slowed the group as they were coming down the mountain, and as darkness started to set in, they decided to call for help. at the time, the group still had nearly four miles to go before reaching the bottom. fish and game officials say the group admitted they were not prepared, and they will likely be billed for the cost of the rescue. fish and game officials say a massachusetts man died while

bean's purchase. officials say 59-year-old james norton suffered a medical emergency while he and his group were coming down the 19-mile brook trail on sunday. they had just left the amc's carter hut. a national guard helicopter went -- was sent to the scene, but norton passed away despite efforts to revive him. erin: hudson police are warning people to be on the lookout for sick animals. they say they've seen a 44% increase in sick wildlife calls this year, and have responded to 13 reports since late september. involved foxes, and officers believe the animals may have distemper. they say wild animals with distemper appear to be tame. but they want pet owners to be aware that the deadly virus can easily be spread to cats or dogs through ticks. quick because the last fox that we had was covered in ticks, and

this disease can be spread very easily. erin: so far, there are no reports of any sick animals acting aggressively. hudson police are asking anyone who sees a wild animal stumbling around or acting lethargic to give them a call. sean: the fish and game department is encouraging the public to help report wildlife crime. officials say anyone who is aware of crimes like poaching or trespassing, littering, or theft can call operation game thief. calls are also encouraged for things like shooting an animal out of season or hunting without a license. operation game thief has a 24-hour hotline. the number is there on your screen 1-800-344-4262. , it is confidential and rewards may be paid for tips that lead to an arrest. erin: newly elected members of the new hampshire house can begin filing legislation today. oftentimes, more than 500 bills are filed each year. every measure gets a hearing and a full vote on the floor. returning lawmakers have already started submitting bills. among them are proposals to raise the minimum wage and expand gun background checks. the legislative session begins

sean: the donald trump transition continues. the president-elect is naming his first key appointments and he's also opening up about the kind of leader he'll be in his first post-election interview. nikole killion is in washington this morning to tell us what the president-elect will be doing today. nikole: today, president-elect donald trump spoke with china's president, who congratulated him and called for cooperation between the u.s. and china. mr. trump: i've never done anything like this. election victory from nearly a week ago sink in as he sat down for his first interview as president-elect on cbs's "60 minutes." lesley: are people going to be surprised about how you conduct yourself as president? mr. trump: you know, i'll conduct myself in a very good manner. nikole: though many continue to protest his election he appealed for calm. mr. trump: don't be afraid. we are going to bring our

on the lookout for the suspects involved in what they call a flash mob attack. investigators say at least four people were injured yesterday when a group of teenagers started attacking people for no apparent reason. one of the victims was an off-duty police detective who suffered a fractured eye socket when he tried to intervene in an -- in the attack. police were able to arrest two 16-year-old suspects on assault charges. erin: the company that makes splenda is now suing dunkin donuts. the lawsuit comes after dunkin substitute this year. the suit claims that the chain now offers a chinese-made off-brand in yellow packets like -- that look like splenda. the company says it sent investigators into more than 70 dunkin donuts restaurants and found that some employees falsely indicated that splenda was used in its products. the company says dunkin donuts' actions are damaging splenda's reputation, and it now wants compensation.

the line last night against one of the best teams in the nfc, the seattle seahawks. member those guys? this was a rematch of the 2014 super bowl, which, of course, the patriots won that game. in the third quarter, the patriots were down 19-14 when legarrette blount took it in for his third touchdown of the game making it 21-19 new england. in the 4th the seahawks took the lead after russell wilson made his third touchdown pass of the game. he had a great night. the patriots had a chance in the final seconds, 4th and goal, but tom brady could not connect with a questionable play. a lot of people talking about that. seattle ended up winning 31-24. the patriots fall to 7-2. >> we just gotta do a better job. you know starts with me. , coaches, players, i mean we just -- we just gotta do better. sean: of course they got to do better. up next the patriots play the , san francisco 49ers this

49ers. erin: is that how you win, just do better? the bruins were after their third straight win last night skating in colorado, first period david krejci fired one to the far post. his second goal of the season put boston in front 1-0. in the final minute of the game dominic moore threw on in the empty net from center ice and the bruins went on to win it 2-0. tuukka rask made 21 saves for the shutout. the bruins will be in minnesota on thursday. sean: to the race track now. the final two spots in the final four were up for grabs in phoenix yesterday. matt kenseth was trying to keep position on the restart, when he came down the track into the 88, and spun into the wall, ending his shot at advancing to the final round. joey logano took the lead on the second attempt at a green, white, checker finish, and held on for the win. this one automatically qualifies him for the final kyle busch four. finished second, good enough to get him into the final, so it will be jimmie johnson, carl edwards, joey logano, and kyle busch, racing for the sprint cup championship in the season's final race, next weekend at homestead.

heavier downpours a possibility late in the day into tomorrow night. as the heavier moisture steps away, we are left with clouds and if you later showers initially on wednesday morning, as we start to dry out. there could be a few breaks later in the day, but that should be it for that system. as that pulls away, quiet conditions for the end of the week. we head into eastern areas of the state, closer to the seacoast, there could be upwards of a half-inch to maybe 3/ an inch due to the heavier downpours. right now, it looks like the system tries to arrive sometime on sunday. for the time being, temperatures in the lower 60's in concord, getting into the upper 50's to near 60 in the lakes region. sunshine and a few fairweather clouds into the afternoon. tonight, increasing clouds after midnight. scattered showers around tomorrow afternoon and into tomorrow evening. that pulls away with lingering clouds wednesday. and then we are in the low and mid 50's for thursday and friday.

erin: welcome back. updating our top stories -- sean: right now, lebanon police are searching for a man they say attacked a woman on a trail. here's ray brewer. ray: police say the victim appears to have been chosen at random. the attack happened at about 5:40, on the trail near dartmouth-hitchcock medical center. a man came up behind her, threw her to the ground, and physically assaulted her. the woman fought back. the attacker ran off. the woman was not seriously inju back to the scene of a major brush fire in albany this morning. the covered bridge fire was first spotted on saturday. so far, it has burned more than a hundred acres in the white mountain national forest. sean: police in pelham are looking for two men they say attacked another man with a fire extinguisher during a home invasion over the weekend. investigators say it appears the attack was targeted, and they do have suspects. erin: hudson police are warning people to be on the lookout for sick animals. they say they've seen a 44% increase in sick wildlife calls
