throughout the morning. >> good news is the survivors on board, and eight crew members were on the plane. we'll continue to follow that breaking news story. the other one back in this country we're following this hour. overnight, the wildfires in tennessee, dozens of buildings have been destroyed or damaged, and there's mandatory evacuations for much of the city and the surrounding area. the tourist community is a gateway for the smokey mountains national park and for the dollywood theme park. reside there's capacity for emergency calls. >> i know it's hard to potentially think about losing a home or a place that you worked your entire life, that you built or established, but we're dealing with a situation here that is very dynamic. it's changing every moment. the wind is not helping us. the rain is not here yet. we're dealing with the worst possible conditions imaginable.

a strong storm system moved through the south including tennessee expected to help battle the wildfires in the region. another system expected later this week, but neither ends the drought that's plagued the southeast. in the meantime, mike pence says a number of important announcements are coming today. >> donald trump holds another meeting with ro for secretary of state, and spent an hour with trump yesterday, and tom price, an outspoken critic of obamacare, is expected to be appointed to lead the department of health and human services. meanwh meanwhile, the recount effort is moving along in wisconsin where green party member jill stein raised $3.5 million to pay for it due today. here's abc's david wright. >> reporter: the campaign everyone thought was all over is suddenly back for an encore.

>> reporter: wisconsin election commission now gearing up for a recount requested by green party candidate jill stein. stein is challenging the vote in pennsylvania and michigan, three battlegrounds hillary clinton lost by a combined 100,000 votes deciding the election. >> this is an election in which there has been hacking and allegations of tampering all over the place. >> reporter: during the campaign, u.s. intelligence agencies concluded russia tried to undermine the hacking team clinton and the dnc. it's one of the reasons thousands of supporters urged the clinton campaign to join the recount effort. the clinton campaign says it's not uncovered any evidence of votes tamp everied with and don't expect the results to change. during the campaign, it was donald trump who often complained the fix was in. >> it's a rigged system. it's a rigged election. 1.8 million dead people are registered to vote.

about the recount calling it a scam and tweeting out hillary clinton's own words -- >> we must accept the result and then look to the future. >> reporter: trump went on to make astonishing claims. even though clinton's lead in the popular vote is now more than 2 million. trump now insists he won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally. he's also alleging serious voter fraud in virginia, new hampshire, election officials across the country outraged. >> i know it's false, but it's hard to combat, you know, facebook and twitter or the president-elect. >> reporter: in california, the secretary of state called trump's allegations of voter fraud absurd adding his reckless tweets are inappropriate and unbecoming of a president-elect. one clinton campaign lawyer

hurt as many as he could. >> reporter: a campus officer confronting him. >> he yelled, the guy didn't stop, charged the cop, and cop was forced to shoot >> reporter: one minute after the attack begins, the cop fired the fatal shot that took down the suspect seen here on the ground surrounded by officers, authorities identifying the suspect as a student at osu, and the school newspaper said this is his photo. >> everybody was running in any direction they possibly could, and luckily, it was just a single stall and was able to lock myself in there. >> reporter: campus now on edge as authorities start hunting for a possible second suspect. the university tweeting, run, hide, fight. watts hall. sending text alerts to the community. >> starting to get a text there was a shooter on campus, so they locked the building down, had us up to the third floor. >> reporter: students barricading themselves inside classrooms, piling up chair

wounded. >> i need a medic as soon as possible. severe bleeding out of some of them. >> reporter: severe patients rushed to the hospital, one in critical condition. >> police cars, the most seen in my entire life. >> reporter: fbi agents arrive with tactical units as well as swat and a bomb squad. this terrifying warnings, law enforcement said par campus because their loved ones could be in hiding, a ringing phone could give them away. then late morning, the all-clear. >> try to keep everybody calm, they did a good job. i love my students. >> reporter: as authorities continue to investigate the crime scene, they now believe the sole perpetrator at the scene was the student behind the wheel of this car and are praising the campus officer, now identified as officer allen who took him down.

less than a minute and he ended the situation in less than a minute. he engaged the suspect, and he eliminated the threat. >> reporter: and that officer is 28 years old and has been with the campus police force for less than two years and authorities say his quick action may have saved lives, abc news, ohio. one more note. invest gapters are paying attention to the suspect's facebook post before the attack. he said here, quoting, i can't take it anymore, countries, especially the muslim, especially the uma. that's the muslim word that refers to people. he says, we are not weak, we are not weak, remember that. law enforcement said the attacker was not known to the fbi before yesterday. neighbors say he was always polite and attended daily prayer services at a mosque. overseas now where syria government forces are making major gains in the rebel-held city of aleppo. government troops control nearly
