sean: good morning, everybody. thanks for waking up with us. i'm sean mcdonald. we could see slick roadways due to rainfall and falling temperatures. mount royal academy in sunapee has a two hour delay today. and the new england classical academy in clermont will not open its doors until 10:15 this morning. it is freezing temperatures causing problems. kevin: country to lower 30's in southern spots. everyone is below freezing initially. this precipitation is either wet snow in elevation. improvements should gradually improve after freezing rain. weather advisories posted through 10:00 this morning. not everything you are seeing is reaching the ground. what you see the best chances in southwestern areas of the state early. warm air and precipitation will

wmur's ray brewer is here now to explain what happened, and how it is affecting other children at the facility. ray: sean his angels learning , academy closed down voluntarily after the incident, but that left 30 families scrambling to find care for their children right away. it was back on november 18, a man calling police, saying he had spotted a three-year-old child alone, walking up the ramp to route four from route 155 in lee -- a very busy area. while other witnes with the child, the man went and checked with the nearby daycare, confirming that the toddler had somehow wandered off. the child was unhurt but the , state bureau of childcare licensing and police are now investigating. and the live and learn learning center nearby was only able to accept nine of the families. >> we have a waitlist of people waiting to get spots, and to have to tell a parent, "i can't take your child," and they look at me and say, "what am supposed

violations for his angels learning academy, though state investigators did find a choking hazard over the summer that has since been fixed. now it is not known if the , daycare plans to reopen, or if the state will take any action because of this incident. in the studio, ray brewer, wmur news 9. sean: well the death of a , two-year-old girl in berlin has been ruled a homicide, but this morning no arrests have been announced. an autopsy yesterday showed that madison dana died from blunt impact injuries on sunday, just the hospital. police continued gathering information at the home on york street yesterday. the ag's office says it's possible the little girl suffered. >> blunt impacgt injuries, it's more than just a fall. it is more than just a glancing hit. you're talking about, how do i put this -- a measure of force that is so strong that you're

internal injuries with it. sean: a neighbor says the child's mother claimed she fell out of a bunk bed and hit her head on the floor. but investigators say that madison's death was caused by another person. a mother from salem who overdosed inside a store in massachusetts with her young child by her side is free on bail this morning. mandy mcgowan faced a judge yesterday after turning herself in. she is charged with child endangerment. video of her overdose last month went viral. her two-year-old daughter in and trying to wake her mother up. her attorney says mcgowan is now in a drug treatment program. >> she has entered a program. she is 67 days into that program. to now hold her on $10,000 cash bail in jail, when she is clearly not going to be able to post that, sets are back in these circumstances. sean: mcgowan is due back in court in january and she must submit to random drug testing. her child is in state care. right now, police in manchester are looking for the man they say stole a purse from a woman's

getting something out of her purse around 5:00 last night, near the intersection of granite and main streets, when a man pulled the purse away and ran off down clinton street. classes will resume at ohio state university today, a day after a student allegedly drove his car into a crowd, and then attacked people with a butcher knife, wounding nearly a dozen before he was shot and killed by an officer. now investigators want to know if it was a terrorist attack. officials are looking at posts on social media. janai: a threatening announcement before a terrifying assault. >> fire department this is osu. , we have a vehicle that struck several pedestrians. janai: according to law enforcement officials, a mere three minutes before the first call for help, abdul razak ali artan posted to facebook, "i can't take it anymore, america. stop interfering with other countries, especially the muslim ummah. we are not weak.

>> be advised, we got a man with a knife running around, cutting people. janai: the fbi digging deeper to learn what pushed the somali immigrant overboard, leading to the attack in his adoptive country's homeland. doug: starting to get a text there was a shooter on campus. so they locked the building down. had us all go up to the third floor. janai: artan was recently profiled in the ohio state university campus newspaper, "the lantern," blaming the media become radicalized, and are looking into recent isis propaganda urging followers to copy the vehicle attack that took place in nice, france, killing 84 people. and just two days ago, the terrorist group posting this video, instructing followers how to use a knife to attack non-believers. matt: certainly, the authorities need to treat this as a potential terrorist attack. janai: in all, 11 people hurt, one critically. police saying it may have been worse, were it not for the campus police officer who was in

kevin: it is tuesday morning, november 29. a live look at the charter trust building in concord. 30 degrees and light precipitation moving in. it has been in the form of a couple o western parts of the state. other areas, either sleet or freezing rain. slick highways a possibility for the morning commute. we will have the details in your forecast coming up. sean: we do have a couple of school delays as a result of that. local second graders are stepping up to help three families who lost almost everything in a fire. students at gossler park elementary school in manchester decided to help after hearing about a fire back in august that displaced about 20 people on spruce street. most who lived there are refugees from bhutan.

judy: it's really heartwarming that at such a young age, they know they can still make a difference, and they're being so kind. kamal: the generous kids from gossler park initiated this kind of event and programs. tika: we see this as a community when we grow together, and when somebody has a problem, we extend our helping hand. sean: staff and parents also chipped in, and combined, they were able to raise about $1700. little more mobility, thanks to support from the community. nine-year-old brayden christmas can't talk, and he is confined to a wheelchair because of l-1 syndrome. his parents have been lifting him into their minivan, but as he gets older, that was getting harder and harder. so friends and complete strangers raised enough money to buy them a wheelchair-accessible van. >> i know people are giving. we were just overwhelmed with the amount of giving that people

paid. the state attorney general's office says that doctor marshall baldassarre reached a deal with investigators. he has now issued refund checks to more than 1600 patients, but is still trying to reach 200 others. he is also facing a fine. if he is unable to track down any patients, that money will be donated to charity. well people along the seacoast , now have a new choice for macaroni and cheese. mr. mac's is opening its new location on lafayette road today, marking their second location in new hampshire. small macaroni and cheese, and there will be other door prizes and giveaways. yummy, mac & cheese. there are new efforts underway this morning to design personal flotation devices for lobstermen. researchers with the northeast center for occupational health and safety will pay fishermen this winter to wear different types of vests, to determine which ones offer the best comfort while not getting in the way or tangled in net lines. currently, only 16% of

you hopefully, a more comfortable one will raise that percentage. kevin: you combined the lobster with the mac & cheese. sean: often done a restaurant's pleasing. did that make you hungry? kevin: yes, it did. developing and southwestern parts of the state, a little bit of moisture traveling northeast. it is not a take much on area roadways to cause an issue for higher hilltops. wet snow initially. for others, sleet or freezing rain. you are seeing that play out in dublin about an hour ago. that parking lot was dry. it now has a shiny sheen to it. a wintry mix eventually going over to rain. southern areas first. the north country in the afternoon.

evening. the next system arrives on its heels tomorrow afternoon. freezing rain advisories as well as winter weather advisory's. all of those posted through 10:00 this morning. you see the first band of moisture making its way through. not all of this is reaching the ground. a little bit of dry air. temperatures may slide back i a degree or two. any kind of form in the pink means it could be wet snow. they could be freeziai that is likely our reality, going from southwest to northeast. it will take several hours to change to rainfall in central parts of the state, and probably not until early afternoon up north. southern areas, that is likely the most freezing we will see. all of this centered around the morning commute in certain areas. not everyone across the state will see that today. highs late this afternoon and

anywhere from the 30's in the north country to 40's elsewhere. a building southeast wind will be around certain night, making it not quite as chilly. we will likely not see any freeze as the rainfall moves away tonight. a bit of a break tomorrow morning. more rainfall piles in tomorrow afternoon. it looks like a wet evening commute tomorrow, with pockets of heavier rainfall a possibility. a much-needed break later in the week. we talk friday and the weekend, we over to rainfall for the afternoon. rainfall most focused toward the afternoon and evening tomorrow. should settled on thursday, with partial clearing thereafter. could be mountain snow showers on friday with a northwesterly breeze. that is the air mass we will have in place. a chance monday or wednesday -- the map is battling out whether we will see rain or snow from the next system.

is closed this morning as police and the bureau of childcare licensing investigate an incident involving a child. authorities say a three-year-old was found walking alone on a busy road earlier this month. they say the child wandered away from his angels learning academy. ray brewer joins us live in the studio now with the latest. ray? ray: sean the daycare in , question voluntarily closed following this incident, giving parents just a matter of hours to find a new place to send their kids. on november 18, lee police say a three-year-old child was found walking alone on route 155, heading up the ramp to route four. the speed limit in this area is 40 mph. several witnesses stopped and stayed with the child, while a man checked the nearby daycare -- his angels learning academy, and confirmed that the child somehow got out. johanna booth-miner owns live and learn early learning center about a mile away.

started calling her last week, when they found out their center was shutting down. after taking in nine of the 30 families that reached out to her, she had to turn some away. johanna: we have a wait list of people waiting to get spots. and to have to tell a parent, "i can't take your child," and they look at me and say, "what am supposed to do?" ray: the new hampshire bureau of childcare licensing confirms the center shut down voluntarily. live and learn opened its doors children to get comfortable. johanna it has been so amazing : to walk around the building, and these children fit in like they've always been here. ray: no one answered the door at his angels, and our requests for comment were not returned. booth-miner says she hopes people realize this is not something that happens every day. johanna: this was a terrible mistake and oversight, but it is not to be sensationalized. ray: childcare licensing is

whether or not the state will take any action. licensing records dating back to 2012 show no major violations at his angels learning academy. but in june, the state found a choking hazard with a mat that has since been removed. in the studio, ray brewer, wmur news 9. sean: ray, thanks. we are learning new details about the death of a two-year-old girl in berlin. the medical examiner's office has ruled the toddler's death a homicide. an autopsy shows that the lile dana, died from blunt impact injuries. emergency crews were called to madison's home on york street on sunday afternoon. she was rushed to the hospital, where she died. now, the attorney general's office is trying to determine how she suffered those fatal injuries. one neighbor says madison's mother told her that the toddler fell. >> i seen my friend ashley out here crying. she turned around and said that

the hospital. she fell off a bunk bed and hit her head off the floor. sean: investigators believe this was more than a fall. so far, no arrests have been made. we're also learning new details about a case in which two people were charged after police say children were found living in filthy conditions in a manchester home. court paperwork for samantha grenier says her son was restrained to a bed for six hours or more during the day, as well as overnight, usually while unsupe the maternal grandfather of the two children, duwayne erickson, says his heart is broken over what is alleged to have happened. his son-in-law, 26-year-old james grenier, faces child endangerment and reckless conduct charges, after police say they found his two-year-old girl and four-year-old boy in extremely unsanitary and unsafe conditions. police say the boy was found covered in feces and urine, and the girl naked in her crib, also covered in feces.

charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal restraint. >> i am very sick over it, and -- this, i did not want to happen. i can't even go through with what my grandkids went through. sean: samantha grenier is scheduled to be back in court next monday. new on "daybreak," two people are facing charges in connection u-haul trucks. nashua police say the trucks were stolen from the u-haul on northwest boulevard during two separate incidents back in september. following an investigation, police arrested 35-year-old michael nadworny for allegedly stealing both trucks. they say 26-year-old chelsea osterman helped him out. she is expected to make a court appearance later today. eight people are homeless this morning after fire destroyed their house in charlestown.

fire, and then in a few minutes, the whole place was burning. >> the place was engulfed. it was -- i knew it was going to be a total loss when all was said and done. sean: the fire broke out early yesterday morning at a house on ox brook road. an 18-year-old and her 14- and 11-year-old sisters were trapped on the second floor, and had to jump to safety. they were treated for smoke inhalation, and one of them may have a broken arm. a 37-year-old woman was also rescued from the burning house. the cause under investigation. wmur has learned that new hampshire democratic party chairman ray buckley will announce his candidacy today for chairman of the democratic national committee. in an email, buckley confirmed to fellow party leaders that he will run. he said the dnc needs urgent reform from top to bottom. a ribbon-cutting ceremony is being held today for the new david t. barrett marine patrol headquarters in gilford. the facility, located on dock

for new hampshire's boating community, as well as law enforcement services. you can also go there to pick up boating licenses and mooring permits. the ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. that is this morning. a holiday tradition in bethlehem is benefiting military families in georgia. this is the 12th year of the trees for troops program. nearly 600 trees from new hampshire and vermont were donated by local businesses and tree farms. the trees were loaded onto now being shipped to military families at a base in georgia. >> i am doing this because it is really great to have the veterans served, because they protect us. so we have to -- we are going to have to repay than somehow. >> to know that i am making a true copy, or a troop's family happy, is really nice.

people on board, including a brazilian first-division soccer team that was heading to colombia for a regional tournament. authorities say at this point, only five people survived. they say the plane declared an emergency due to an electrical failure before it went down. the fbi is trying to determine a motive behind a violent attack at ohio state university. police say a student drove a car into a group of pedestrians yesterday morning before stabbing several people on campus. 11 people were injured before the attacker was shot and killed by police. now, we're hearing some of the 911 calls that were made during the attack. >> franklin county 911. caller: yeah. i'm on the ohio state campus. there's been a -- i think there's some type of terror attack. quick slide? caller: because the guy ran across through a crowd of students.

>> the fire alarm went out. a guy in a honda civic ran through the crowd. he had a knife and he was running down people. my god. sean: all of the victims are expected to survive. investigators say, at this point, they cannot rule out terrorism as a possible motive. health officials in texas say they are dealing with their first case of zika virus. they say a woman living near the mexican border tested positive for zika last week. officials say the virus was likely transmitted within the traveled to an area where zika is circulating. dictionary.com has unveiled its word of the year. and the word is "xenophobia." the website defines xenophobia as a fear or hatred of foreigners, people from different cultures, or strangers. the website says searches of xenophobia spiked between june 22 and june 24, as britain voted to leave the european union, largely over immigration

well if you watch a lot of shows , on netflix or hulu, you'll want to listen up. you could soon be taxed for streaming video. the topic is now generating a lot of attention after the city council in pasadena, california announced a 9.4% tax on streaming video. they're calling it a utility, so it can be taxed like water and electricity. one councilman says the so-called "netflix tax" was designed to make up for lost revenue from people canceling their cable tv. turning now to sports the , celtics were on the road in miami last night, taking on the heat. boston was trying to make it four wins in five games. the heat kept it close in the first quarter, but the celtics pulled away. isaiah thomas led the way with 25 points, and handed out eight assists, while avery bradley added 18 points. six celtics players finished in double figures, and boston went

roadways. the precipitation will start filling in as the day moves along. it will be mainly rain late morning into the afternoon. the southern half of the state, the wintry mix continue through a portion of the afternoon, before eventually getting into the mid-30's. the high temperatures probably not realized until 8:00 or 9:00 this evening, as temperatures gradually warm on a southeast wind through the day today. pockets of heavier rainfall in time for the evening commute. tomorrow, a brief break, and another round of precipitation, mainly in the form of rain, with temperatures in the 40's late tomorrow afternoon, continuing through tomorrow evening. all told, could be an inch of rain fall out of these systems making their way through. maybe a small accumulation up north this morning. otherwise, it is rainfall. partial clearing thursday. near normal temperatures for this time of year starting on friday. partly sunny skies for the weekend.

busy area. since then, his angels learning academy has closed voluntarily, but the state and police are still investigating. sean: we are learning news details about a homicide in berlin. authorities say a two-year-old girl died after suffering blunt impact injuries. now, the attorney general's office is trying to determine how those injuries happened. so far, no arrests have been made. a salem mother who overdosed inside a store in massachusetts with her young child by her side is free on bail this morning. mandy mcgowan faced a judge she is charged with child endangerment. kevin: temperatures at or below freezing. any moisture out of the clouds early this morning, as soon as it gets to the area roadways and the untreated surfaces, it could be slick out there. you are numerous reports of slick highways in central and western parts of the state. from there, we warm into the 30's and 40's today. that will lead us to rainfall for the afternoon.
