shelley: learning the name of the man shot and killed in manchester overnight. what the victim's daughter is saying about her father tonight. mike: the first of two storms moves away overnight, but more rain is on the way . when the next system arrives in a timeline ahead. shelley: the changes that put exeter holiday lights display in jeopardy. and how the power company is working to find a solution. >> no one covers new hampshi now, wmur news 9 tonight. shelley: new tonight, authorities now investigating a homicide in effingham. this after the shooting death of man in manchester this morning. good evening. i'm shelley walcott. tom: and i'm tom griffith. this is the third homicide investigation in the state this week. the attorney general's office says a 63-year-old man was shot in the chest yesterday and later died at the hospital. wmur's siobhan lopez is live in effingham tonight with what we know right now.

office, the victim is identified as 63-year-old robert dishman. he did i the hospital suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest. investigators say dishman was shot during some kind of incident on ams way around 11 : 00 yesterday morning. its unclear if that's dishman's home, but we spoke with the next door neighbor who says a man named bob lives at that address. he tells us he saw a heavy police presence there yesterday, and was surprised to hear someone was shot. >> that's just crazy. i don't know. i've heard him yelling a few times, but i don't know what it was about. i did not think much of it. siobhan: no arrests have been made at this point, but the ag's office says based on their investigation there does not appear to be an ongoing threat to the public. anyone with information is asked

siobhan lopez, wmur news 9. tom: we now know the name of the man shot and killed in manchester this morning. tonight the attorney general's office saying 51-year-old robert shatney died in his thorton street apartment. shatney died from a gunshot wound to the chest. and as wmur's andy hershberger tells us the victim's daughter , is now looking for answers. andy: authorities say the 911 call came in at about 12:30 tuesday morning for a report of shots fired at an apartment on thornton street in manchester. thornton street where they discovered a deceased adult male. he appeared to suffer a gunshot wound. that male was determined to be a resident of 231 thornton street. >> i kind of just wish it was a bad dream and i would wake up. sorry. andy: amanda shatney is the victim's oldest daughter. >> it's a horrible situation. my dad was a loving, caring guy, did favors for anybody.

andy: police were on the scene all day as news of what happened slowly spread through the neighborhood. >> i'm just surprised that we didn't hear anything. i think that's the most surprising thing. kind of scary too. >> i just can't believe it. this neighborhood is really pretty quiet. i mean sometimes there's issues over at that house. i'm shocked. i can't believe this. is in it's early stages and are asking everyone in the neighborhood to be vigilant, lock your doors, and report anything suspicious to police. >> i haven't figured out a way to handle it. my emotions right now are really numb. i'm waiting on some answers on who and what and why. andy: andy hershberger, wmur news 9. tom: two vermont men are going to prison after pleading guilty to drug charges in connection to a deadly overdose last year. prosecutors say daniel fogg was dealing the drug out of a

fogg sold some heroin to francis mayhle who then gave it to 23-year-old dakota kilburn who died from an overdose. today fogg pleaded guilty to selling heroin with death resulting and mayhle pleaded guilty to conspiracy to sell heroin and dispensing the drug with death resulting. shelley: switching gears to talk about the weather. a cold, rainy day in the granite state, even starting with north. live look tonight in meredith and hampton beach. temperatures are well above freezing. chief meteorologist mike haddad is here. mike: we are tracking more rain. beneficial rain as the ground is not frozen in southern new hampshire yet. good news for those traveling out and about. many parts of the lakes region and points south. that is right around freezing in

showers are falling onto a relatively solid surface. notice a of moisture gathering down to our south with system number two of the week ready to move in wednesday. not in the morning. we will be cloudy but rain-free and temperatures above freezing. here we go. from the cloud cover into some rain as we go through the afternoon stretch. could become quite heavy. we will take a look at how much more rain to expect when that system clears and the rest of the week in a few minutes. shelley: tonight, the owners of a laconia vape shop say they feel violated after someone broke in and stole dozens of items this morning. video footage shows the burglar going through the store and taking vaporizers. and now police trying to figure out who did it. wmur's mike cronin is in laconia with the details.

suspect tried to avoid detection but was caught on camera. >> i just can't believe that this could happen to a small business, to happen to us. mike: laconia police are investigating the burglary at great northern woods vape shop. just after 5:00 this morning an unwanted visitor could be seen on video surveillance clearing out a shelf. 40 vaporizers like these, as well as liquids and cash were stolen. altogether, store co-owner kaleb of merchandise. >> they were just playing with the cash register, trying to get the cash register open, went behind the desk and was rummaging through all our paperwork. mike: the burglar never broke through the front door instead , going under the building. >> so this is where they entered here through the bulkhead. mike: then through the basement the suspect entered the shop , through this door. >> this is where the wires were cut. mike: that took care of the

>> i don't know if they knew what they were doing or not. it seems like they did, because the alarm did not go off. mike: jackman says video footage shows the person in the store for 13 minutes before that was shut off, too. the family has run this business for about five years but never have had anything like this happen before. >> gut-wrenching heartache. this is something that we've worked so hard for, for so long. have taken measures to further improve security. while they plan to replace the stolen items they hope someone identifies this person. >> it hurts that someone would do this to us. this is going to be a big hit. mike: police are actively investigating and are asking anyone with information to give them a call. mike cronin, wmur news 9. tom: fish and game reminding and now warning that a loon found

fish and game says the bird was found on bradley lake by a construction crew working in the area. loons are a threatened species in the state, and 65% of loon deaths are caused by humans. fish and game says this is a critical time to protect loons as they are also being threatened by climate change. shelley: the town of exeter is known for its holiday light display, but this year an unexpected problem is threatening to keep the the lights off. for more than three decades, this is the site that has attracted people from all the town's holiday display of lighted garlands hanging from polls, trees, even town hall. a deked-out christmas tree in the bandstand at the heart of it all. >> this is the 30 year celebration. it is our 100th anniversary of the bandstand. shelley: this year, electrical code issues could pull the plug on this annual tradition. electric company unitil installed new poles over the summer, changing the overall

tom: ohio state university students returned to class today as the investigation continues into a student who went on a rampage. now isis is claiming responsibility. abc's kenneth moton has the latest from columbus. kenneth: it was back to class for an ohio state university community on edge. >> i don't think campus is as packed today, but there are definitely people out. there is uncertainty in the air. kenneth: the talk of the campus? 18-year-old abdul artan, who is accused of slamming his car into a crowd of people walking on the sidewalk near the engineering hall before slashing victims with a butcher knife. heroic university police officer alan horujko shot and killed him. osu student anderson payne was stabbed. >> initially it just felt like someone punched me in the hand, you just get that dull pain in your hand, then i looked down and saw that my entire hand was full of blood. kenneth: local and federal authorities searched the teen's

posts. five months ago, the somali-born honor student jumped across the graduation stage at an ohio community college. by fall he was at osu, upset , about the treatment of muslims. he posted on facebook minutes before the attack, i can't take it anymore. this osu professor was also one of the 11 injured. >> i would like to see what all the circumstances are that lead to him to doing this. it. student organizations, including one for somali students, coming together with the community on campus tuesday evening to show they are buckeyes strong. as investigators try to figure out if the motive was terror related, isis has claimed the suspect was a soldier of the islamic state. however, the terror group did not say if it directed the 18-year-old to carry out the lone wolf attack. kenneth moton, abc news columbus ohio.

dead after a dormitory fire in turkey. turkish officials say the fire may have been sparked by an electrical problem. it happened in at middle school dormitory for girls in southern turkey. one teacher and 11 students were killed and 22 others were hurt. tom: firefighters continue to battle wildfires in tennessee that have now killed the fire three. spread quickly last night, being fueled by hurricane-force winds. the flames reached dollywood but were stopped short of doing much damage. over 14,000 people have been forced to evacuate the tourist city of gatlinburg. a community and try to protect and serve others when your own property and everything that you've worked for is burning down. tom: and as one new hampshire fire crew returns from battling wildfires in georgia, another is getting ready to leave. they will spend the next two weeks in the south. shelley: switching gears to talk about are very rainy weather. mike: beneficial. it started out slick but when

the ground is not frozen in southern new hampshire. if we can add an inch or two, not completely get rid of it but we will see that deficit dwindle. time lapse photos in warner. we had a bit of a wintry mix. snow, sleet, freezing rain. you know the story if you were out between 7:00 and 10:00 a.m. right now it is all wet. the around the mount washington valley, northern part of the lakes region. watch out for some slick spots in those areas. otherwise it is just damp roads. fog to contend with and lingering showers. they will continue up north for a couple of hours before it dries out. in southern new hampshire, it is mainly quiet. a couple of light sprinkles on and off until about midnight or

not much sitting back to our west. no more rain into the morning hours tomorrow. how about the temperatures? last night they were in the 20's to around 30. right now, 32 around 40. the wind is quite strong onshore and the ocean temperatures sitting at 51 degrees. that keeps the temperatures up. we are cooler now and we will fall another two were three degrees. advance into wednesday morning. cooler weather in the rockies. this is seasonably cool. look off to the east. mississippi valley. that is where we see the divide line. 50's, 60's, and 70's. we will not see 60's or 70's, but 50's not out of the question, especially during the day tomorrow. mid 50's on thursday.

what about the timeline for that next batch of rain? system one is about to move out. a lot of clouds filling in, but early tomorrow morning clouds quickly thinking and all of this juice in the atmosphere has to through new hampshire tomorrow afternoon to about daybreak on thursday and that could come down at a good clip. we could see maybe an inch and a half in some areas. we will put a dent in the dr night and friday, we may see the extreme drought squashed all the way down into massachusetts. temperatures overnight tonight. not a big fall. they will hold steady around 40. a slow climb into the low to mid 40's under overcast skies. the rain fills in in the afternoon. varying in intensity. some of it coming down at a good clip.
