the united states. this morning we have new information about the security plans complicating matters for the police in the midst of all of this. the u.n. general assembly begins today. katherine creag is on the east side. kat, all of the security with the u.n. general assembly and on top of that preparations for pope francis. >> reporter: right, yeah, security, traffic issues. today is the first day of the general assembly, just a meeting today, but it really ramps up, really gets more intense next week when all of the world leaders are in town. and it's precisely at the same time pope francis visits new york. so what does this mean for keeping everyone safe? commissioner bratton, mayor de blasio, they met with official alzheimer's from the nypd, fbi and secret service to talk about security but to also show us, members of the media, the types of weapons and protective gear that will be used. the pope arrives next thursday and also in town nearly 200 world leaders including president obama. the pope will visit the 9/11
