filed by the family of a teenager killed by a police officer in michigan. it all happened during a traffic stop and most of it was caught on the officer's body cam. the family says their son did not have to die. nbc's rehema ellis has more. >> reporter: the tragedy unfolded moments after a routine traffic stop. >> i pulled you over because you flashed me. >> reporter: last february, 17-year-old devin gilford was pulled over by officer frost. the incident captured on the body camera of the officer. >> you had your lights on. i'm not lying to you. >> reporter: when gford refused several reque s for documents, the encounter escalated. >> get your hands behind your back. >> reporter: in the scuffle, sergeant frost first fires his stun gun.

college. he heard gunshots. he started runnint g. he made his way back to the classroom where 26-year-old chris harper evans was targeting his victims. he said i could see one student through the door. she was screaming and covered in blood. i motioned my finger over my mouth to be quiet and motioned for them to stay down. and i yelled to the guy in the parking lot, go get the cops. the shooter opened the door to my left. he leaned out and started ooting. he was no nonchalan like he was playing a vidd game. the shots knocked me to the ground and it felt like a truck hit me. he shot me again and hit my finger and said that's what you get for calling the cops. i laid there in a fetal position unable to move and responded, i didn't call the cops, man. they were already on their way. he leaned further out of the classroom and tried to shoot my one. i yelled, it's my kid's

yay, queue the ban jod it's time to ask produ e pete. this week he went apple picking. >> good morning, how are you? a couple days ago i go up to naldson's farm in hackensack, new jersey to pick some apples.anso let'svtake a look. >> field trip. >> so i told you i wanted to bring you to the orchard to see th , but you know what, years ag uwhen you came to an apple orchard, you had these huge trees, and when you went to a you-pick-it, they had to use ladders and everything. this is their new trees. look how these trees are full of apples. this is the new empire right

you can stand on the ground at a you-pick-it now and get these tremendous apples. when i see this, i fall in love with this. 's unbelievable. this is what the new orchards are, a lot of fruit and very, very small. plus, here at donaldson's farm, they know how to grow thing. that's the wonderful thing. this is anothe, apple i like. this is the wycef apple. absolutely terrific. and see the abundance of fruit that's on here? it's absolutely grnat. we're going to talk a little more about apples, but i wanted you to seeythis is the new thing, the new farm. it's unbeli able. >>th wow, pete. >> i'm tele ng you, it's unbelievable. it's almost like a vineyard with grapes now. soen the trees are very, very small -- i talked to grig donaldson and he said to me, you know, it tikes about two years before they start developing apples and then the third year they can start picking them, but the volume is tremendous that they get.

they hang to the ground. they have these wires that hold e trees up and everything, and it's almost like a vineyard. abersolutely terrific. and when you go apple picking, you don't have to get on a ladder and fall off. my new discovery was an empire apple. this was between a macintosh and a vintage. this is what we call a keeper. macintosh tend to get soft toward the end, but this is what we call a keeper. a blondie is almost like a golden delicious, but it eats like a gallow when you bite into itenbut very, very sweet. they're only out for a couple months, but they're really, really good. this is what we call a cameo. i brought four of my favorite apples, but there's 50 or a hundred different varieties. this is what we call the cameo.e now, the cameo apple, the parenthood from the cameo apple we just don't know. what it was, was they found

these apples gro on a farm bewaeen the red delicious and the golden delicious, so that's what they think the cameo is.a probably one of the most popular right now. this yo is a cross between a mccowen and a hon ovey gold, and this is getting to be the most popular apple. when you look at these apples, this is going to be $3.99 a pound, this is going to be $1.99 a pound. tng as the apples get more and more of these, supply and demand equals price, so as you get more and more of these -- when you get these apples home, the first thing i want you to do is stick them in the refrigerator. >> what? >> refrigerate apples buzz ecause they hold the s gar in, they hold the freshness in. i had such a great time up there, and you see how these apples grow. i'm so used to these big, big trees, but this is the new thing. if you go out and around and gu apple picking, it's out there.
