our biggest concerns for trle velers on the roads. here you see along 40 and 25, you're looking at snow eventually turning over to those icy conditions, and especially the bridges and the overpasses, they freeze first, so just really slow down as you go over those overpasses because it freezes on the top and the bottom ue erneath as well. now, if you're heading through chicag or detroit or st. louis thais today, look for rain showers that could cause some delays and where the ice is a little farther to the west. slippery conditions still an issue. on saturday it's not just the rain but also some fog. ain, that causes delays at airports. major huby like new lerk city, some of those rain showers and foggy conditions causing some delays, and then you go back still lthrough texas and oklahoma. that's where we're look for ice to still be an issue. now on sunday the ice and the snow, it's allowed a little bit and we'll see mainly rain and duced visibility becaung of the rain and the fog and thisd rain is going to stretch all the way through parts of kentucky and virginia, stretching over into virginia, too, where soggy travel is going tonight biggest thing on the roads and thati

those new security measures were put in place over the summer, and the most disconcerting part may be the entire first family was home at the time. the secret service is investigating this morning after this man identified as joseph caputo jumped over the white house fence draped in an american flag flag, clenching a bindner his mouth. he was apprehended after taking a first steps but all unfolded while the first family enjoyed thanksgiving inside. some witnesses told the "washington post" they heard caputo say, let's do this, before scaling the nearly eight-foot fence. >> freeze now! >> reporter: this moment captured on instagram captured the terrifying moments when the crowd was told to scatter and the white house placed into lockdown mode for more than three hours and the surrounding streets blocked off. for witnesses it was unnerving. >> just a move, move, move. crazy, i know it. >> reporter: this markets first

this storm dropped snow earlier in the week across parts of northwest and northern california, as much as 20 inches in the ski resorts of northern california and then yesterday it was rain, freezing rain and snow and across the plains. in kansas city they got the holiday celebration in and it temperatur whes in the upper 30s and nearly two inches of rain and heavy rain hit the dallas-fort worth area and a sw strand driver. he himself was later rescued and is now in the hospital. dallas has had over 4 inches of rain, and it's now their wettest year on record. if you're traveling today in this part of the country, watch out for freezing rain and flash flooding. the flash flood watch in dallas continues until sunday morning. erica. >> mike seidel for us this morning, mike, thanks. let's head over to north carolina where the hunt is on for a rare plant that is worth a lot of money, and as nbc's ker sanders explains, it's leading to a big problem for police.

hadn't notice it had and tarek didn't treat when he did, how bad would it have been? >> it would have been discovered eventually since he had a visible lump there that they weren't concerned about but the great news about thyroid cancer it's incredibly, incredibly treatment depending on the stage but thyroid cancers has great five-year survivals so one of the move treatable cancers we have. >> not everybody is in the public eye to have someone spot this for them. >> unfortunately, some of the symptoms you may not be aware of. the cancer will start off as a little nodule you can't even palpate or feel or a doctor can't even. most of them are probably found incidentally, people are getting scanned in the neck for other reasons, arthritis in their next or carotids and they find it incidentally but some of the symptoms you would notice, lump in the throat, difficulty swallow, hoarse voice, a dry cough, where the thyroid, is any swelling or abnormality there
