almost fell, that she was yanked. it doesn't look anything like that in real time. not even in slow motion. looks like there was contact. you have to figure out whether or not the contact was a defensible contact. if he thought she was making contact with mr. trump. i know she was warned twice before by secret service that she shouldn't get as close as she was to mr. trump. those are the -- >> wait a second, you're saying mr. lewandowski might have been reacting to what he perceived as a threat against mr. trump? >> 100%. that's one of the things that we have to investigate. not only that, but we also have to investigate what she said to the police. if you read the police report, it doesn't match what's on the video. the police report was saying that she was pulled so hard that she almost lost her balance. >> she said immediately following, someone grabbed me tightly by the arm and yanked me down. i almost fell to the ground but was able to maintain my balance.

do you see anything on theputes that? >> she didn't almost lose her balance. in real time, it's a half a second. it's an incident that i don't believe corey thought was anything. i don't think anyone that was present thought was anything. there were police on the scene that she never reported to, never said, hey, this is what happened. there's a lot of things i think are in dispute here. >> obviously, someone else will decide whether there is misdemeanor battery, but the verdict is in on one thing. corey lewandowski lied, didn't he? he went to twitter following the event and said, she was delusional, that he never touched her. in fact, that video shows him touching her, and she was not delusional. isn't that a verdict that's in? >> it does show that. now, the question becomes, you know, when an incident happens that i don't remember or i don't recall, in terms of like, if i run into somebody at a heat

going to remember that like the person is going to remember that. they may say, i was pulled down, almost fell to the ground. >> with all due respect, he says he never touched her. >> correct. >> he clearly reached out with the intent of grabbing her and pulling her back. the video does not lie about that. >> no, the video shows contact. what i'm saying is, in corey's mind, the next day, if someone says, hey, i was pulled -- almost pulled to the ground, and you don't recall that incident, you don't recall that individual, if you look at the video, corey isn't looking at her. doesn't make any reaction toward her, doesn't look at her face. all he's saying is the hand. >> last question. there is another video tape at another event, mr. lewandowski briefly grabbing a protester by the collar and pulling him back. why is corey lewandowski putting his hands on people at campaign events? >> well, corey is an ex-new hampshire trooper. he went to the police academy.

if he sees a threat or sees something he feels is unnormal or something that is irregular, he thinks he can take action. >> isn't that the job of the secret service? >> it's not just the job of the secret service. everyone is responsible for mr. trump's security. >> all right. bradford cohen, thank you so much. >> thanks for having me, matt. we also had a chance to talk to ben shapiro, the editor at large of brietbart at the time of the incident. he quit in protest when he felt the conservative website failed to back its reporter. >> i know you're close with michelle fields t reporter in question here. how is she doing? how did she respond to the fact charges have been filed, and what did she think of the video? >> she was happy the video came to light. she'd always maintained she was grabbed by the arm, yanked and bruised, and that's what the video shows, despite what the trump followers have been saying

one of the reasons she hasn't been doing on-camera interviews is she never wanted to be a part of the story. she wanted an apology from lewandowski and the trump campaign. instead, they decided to lie and smear her, then decided to lie about lying and now they're lying about the lies they lied about. we're through the looking glass in this story. >> if she were to get an apology from lewandowski, would she be willing to drop the charges? >> probably insufficient. it's up to the police to decide whether the charges are merited or not. a battery took place under florida law. regardless of what anybody thinks about the severity of the incident, the real story is the trump campaign's obviously stupid decision not to admit something has gone wrong, apologize and go after it. instead, deciding to go after michelle and lie about the incident. donald trump is suggesting that michelle fields assaulted him. lewandowski, like the heros of

gabe gutierrez is at the airport in cyprus for us. gabe, good morning. >> savannah, good morning. is suspected hijacker faced a judge, who ordered him held for eight days. faces possible kidnapping charges after a bizarre six-hour standoff right here at this airport. >> reporter: it was the selfie seen around the world, an alleged hijacker posing with a passenger. >> he asked him to take a picture. >> reporter: seif eldin mousse sta fa -- hust urks h mustafa has a criminal record. his suicide belt was fake, making it through security. the authorities saying he's not a terrorist, he's an idiot. the flight took off from alexandria, bound for cairo,

eight americans on board. among them, noha saleh from new york. >> i texted my husband and said, i got kidnapped. >> reporter: she said the flight attendants were calm and didn't tell passengers about the hijacking until they landed. >> at this moment the people started to really panic. i stayed like shocked for 15 minutes and i keep saying, are you serious? >> reporter: the hijacker kept the flight crew and men with foreign passports on board. one of the pilots scrambled out the cockpit window. the hijacker surrendered, but not before a flight attendant helped the passenger, british health and safety auditor, take the picture. i'm not sure why i did it, he told the "sun" newspaper. i figured if the bomb was real, i had nothing to lose anyway. >> this whole incident has raised new questions about egyptian airport security, six months after isis claimed it

for the motive behind all this, it's still unclear. authorities say the hijacker demanded to speak with his ex-wife, who lives here in cyprus. >> to be continued. gabe gutierrez, thank you very much. turning back to our top story. the new and nasty turns in the presidential race. >> donald trump is with us now on the phone. mr. trump, good morning. thanks for calling in. >> good morning. >> let's start with the very basics here, okay? first of all, you have a corey lewandowski tweet right after this incident happened, saying very directly, i never touched her. then you have a piece of video which shows, rather clearly, he did touch her. would you acknowledge that corey lewandowski did not tell the truth initially about this incident? >> well, let me go a step further. she touched me. she grabbed me by the arm at least twice. >> we can talk about that in a moment. let's do the basics first. he said he didn't touch her, and the video shows he touched her. is that not a lie? >> savannah, i really don't know.

she grabbed me by the arm twice. she -- i pushed her off. you could see that very clearly. she said that she was jolted backwards. her exact words, she was jolted backwards. he somehow grabbed me tightly by the arm and knocked her down. >> mr. trump -- >> she made up the story, savannah. she said she was yanked down. this was before she found out there was a security camera on her. it was my security camera. i supplied the security camera and the tape. >> let me just ask you one thing -- >> wait a minute. said, i almost fell to the ground, but was able to maintain my balance. i was shaken. campaign managers aren't supposed to forcefully throw reporters to the ground. that was her statement. >> can i jump in here? >> she wasn't thrown to the ground. >> let me jump in here though. you are saying she forcibly touch you, suggesting you're the one that should file charges. >> maybe i should.

calling bull blank on ms. fields. he tweeted that she was delusional, and he tweeted that he never touched her. the video tape easily and plainly shows that, in fact, he did grab her and did pull her. whether you want to debate whether she almost fell down or not, he didn't tell the truth. if you're president of the united states and a member of your staff, your chief of staff, goes to the american people and publicly doesn't tell the truth in the way that corey lewandowski hasn't told the truth, would you put up with it? >> well, i don't know if it wasn't that. i'll be honest with you, when you look at what happened, it was so minor, that he might not have even thought about it. to be honest with you, when you look at this, it was so minor. people are saying, what is this all about? we have people in the middle east chopping off heads and drowning people in cages, and he brushes her.

probably to get her hand off of my arm. so it was so minor. he might not have even realized it took place. then he was informed later on that it took place, and he might have not known, even frankly, what happened. >> mr. trump, i'll ask you a general question here. if you look at this video tape and then you look at the video tape from another event where he is seen to briefly, briefly, grab a protester's shirt collar and pull him back, the simple question we've asked others, why is your campaign manager putting his hands on people at your events? why is he allowed to do that? >> because this protester was an agitator. take a look at the horrible, disgusting sign that that protester had. take a look at the protester's hands, around a woman's neck in front of him. he barely touched him, also. he had two fingers on the shirt and then took them off and security took the guy out. he was an agitator. he was a bad guy. he was an agitator and, frankly,

welcome to my house we're back with our start today spring forward series. all morning long, "today" contributor jill martin has been giving a cluttered bedroom a 40-minute makeover. that's what it looked like in the first place. now it's been completely revamped. we're ready to check it out. good morning and good to see you. >> good morning. >> was it a big challenge? >> i think spring cleaning is overwhelming for so many people. i wanted to give an outline. something to do in 40 minutes in your house to whip any room into shape. to get you started. we have the help of our plaza today, which is amazing. >> nice. one of the places all the

closet. what did you do? >> we de-cluttered. we showed the before and after. it's super dramatic. look at the after shot now. you saw what it looked like earlier today. this really can be done in 40 minutes with just a little prep the night before. so this is the new closet. here's the deal. we had a little help earlier. you can get rid of 75% of what you already have in your closet. you know it's a real story. you've done it recently. >> maybe 30%. >> we only wear 25% of what we have. these are a few criteria to do instantly. this is a great shirt. if you don't wear it, it doesn't belong in your closet. if you don't wear it, even though it's great, do you keep it or toss it? >> toss. >> that's exactly right. >> so cool. let's make a deal here. monte, monte! >> anybody have a toothbrush? no. okay, this is a great shirt. doesn't fit. if it doesn't fit, even though it is a great shirt, keep or

it's 8:49. we have today's food. this week is all about recipes easier than you think. we have siri daly here. be betrothed to carson, as well. >> we are making girl scout cookies. we bought 150 $150 worth of boxes. they're going to run out and you'll want a homemade version. we'll make tag alongs, the chocolate and peanut butter ones. >> let's look at the grid. chocolate, peanut butter, flour and sugar. this is powdered sugar which has been creamed. >> great. >> we'll add the extract. vanilla. tiny bit of almond. >> how much more difficult is this than the average cookie? these are easier than you think. >> they're easier than you think. this is basically a shortbread cookie i'm making, which is very simple.

prepared in advance. then throw it together when you're ready. here is flour and salt. we sifted it together to make it nice and smooth. i'll throw it in here and make a mess. >> look at you two working together. >> just on what -- >> low. until it's combined. >> oops. >> way too much. turn it off. >> not a race car. >> sorry. >> we want to chill the dough. important for shortbread cookies. you can also make -- that's distracting. >> i tur alned it off. turned it off. >> you can make it into a disk so you can roll it out. >> easier to cut frozen like that? >> yeah. try cutting one to show it's easy. over here, we have a cookie cutter which you can do it this way. >> nice. >> we'll bake them about 12 minutes in a 350 degree oven, un until they get brown on the edge.

nut butter and vanilla. >> any fancy peanut butter? >> creamy peanut butter. favorite creamy peanut butter. roll it around so it has a dome at the top. >> gotcha. >> then over here, i'm going to take two forks. this is my trick for dipping in chocolate. let it go in and -- >> the whole thing. just like the girl scouts do. >> look at that. >> use the other fork to get the excess off. then you're in the messy. >> well done. >> i do lick the fork afterwards. there they are. >> let's try the finished product. >> what are we making back here? >> samoas, my favorite as a kid. the cookie base is the same but we have coconut, caramel and chocolate. over here, we have caramels that

this morning. >> i did. >> we'll add a little milk to the caramel to make it creamy. then we're going to add toasted coconut, which i toasted in the oven at 300 degrees for about ten minutes. i stirred it halfway because coconut can burn. we'll add the coconut to the caramel mixture. >> in the mixture, okay. >> carson, you didn't mention you pitched you could dress up like a girl scout for this segment. >> savannah turned it down. >> anything for ratings for my sweetheart's segment. it was a dumb idea. >> our caramel mixture is here. we used a smaller cookie cutter or piping tip to get the -- >> doughnut looking thing? >> yeah. spread the mixture. you can try this, too. >> see, this is a little pastier. higher degree of difficulty. >> it gets thick and gooy.

good morning. 8:57, 38 degrees on this wednesday morning. it is march 30th. i'm darlene rodriguez. massive fire's left dozens homeless in bushwick, brooklyn. it broke out in one building on dekalb avenue and quickly spread to several others. by the time it was under control, five buildings were destroyed. 11 people were hurt, including 4 who had to be taken to the hospital. we're told one of them is in serious condition. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. we'll check the weather right now. today mostly sunny, breezy, high of 59.
