another sign that prince george can't help being royally adorable. today, saturday, april 23rd, 2016. from nbc news, this is "today" live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. >> welcome to "today another on this saturday morning. i'm craig melvin. >> i'm chanel jones along with dylan dwyer. >> isn't it nice to put kids in all white? it is adore able. you get the gifts, you get robes they never really wear. this little guy, i think the song from lion king, "i can't wait to be king. >> adorable. >> steams the show wherever he goes. >> so cute. >> we will get to a little more on prince george in a minute. let's get to our top story the investigation into prince's untimely death.
7:03 am
this morning, investigators are not saying a whole lot about what was found. nbc's ron mott is outside prince's recording studio where his body was discovered, ron, good morning. >> reporter: hey, craig, good morning to you. anyone expecting to get some clue into what led to this tragedy is pending with respect to yesterday's autopsy. of course, all that means is more waiting. this morning, funeral plans for prince remain undisclosed, his family taking custody of the body, transported in this van after a four-hour autopsy that produced no official cause on manner of death. but the lead investigator appears to put one area of speculation to rest. >> there were no obvious signs of trauma on the body at all. we have no reason to believe at this time that it's under the investigation. >> that investigation is expected to proceed several more weeks, authorities say, before a final report on what happened is released. in the meantime, rumors filled

investigations, i would give overwhelming odds that tragically this is a drug death. when you rule out foul play, when there is no history of any kind of significant disease, heart and lungs. when you rule out any kind of intervention, foul play, anything of environmental nature, you come down to an autopsy which is essentially negative and that probably means drugs. there is a rumor, calm it what you will, that he was taking percocet. percocet contains oxycodone and as id aminophyns. oxycodone, oxycontin is one of the biggest drugs in this epidemic sweeping the country. oxycodone is a powerful semi synthetic an fal geesic. it presses into the brain and leads to depression of the heart and lungs. it is just as potent as morphine
7:07 am
almost as potent when taken orally and acetiminophin. that adds to it. but that is a part of the picture. so i think that this almost certainly is going to prove to be a drug death. >> a week ago, dr. wecht, there was this plane coming from 300 miles trgs plane descended at a rate indicative there was some sort of medical emergency on board him we know there was someone not responsive on board. his reps say that he was treated and released for flu-like symptoms. does that add up to you? what does that tell you? >> if that's part of the clinical medical history, obviously, this was such a
7:08 am
required a claim of an emergency landing, et cetera. it could not have been a cardiac condition, right, or a cerebral problem or a pulmonary embolism and he was discharged and i understand he couldn't get a private room so did not want to say. so the fact that you had that claim, an mortgages situation, the treatment, evidently a response, because i think then he went on to give another concert, whatever. so, again, that fits into the drug pick. i cannot think of any medical pathological condition that would give you that claim of a scenario with those kind of incredible ups and downs in such a short period of time, other than drugs. he had an acute drug episode, they probably treated him with narcan and he got better as you always do, then he took the drug again. most regrettable. >> bottom line, the was so sudden. >> we will get a lot more

report comes out in a few weeks. >> thank you. to ohio now, where a massive manhunt is under way for the shooter or shooters responsible for the horrific killing of eight people from the same family. the only three spared, children, police now say they think the family was targeted. gabe gutierrez has more developments. good morning. >> reporter: craig, good morning. overnight, investigators worked four crime scones and they worked their throughout the night. they now believe one family was clearly targeted and they've interviewed 30 people so far, but no arrests. this morning, the search for a killer or killers is intensifying across the rural pike county, ohio. >> we do not know whether we are talking about one individual or two or three or more. we simply do not know that at this point. >> reporter: sheriffs deputies got the first 9 blempb called u call before 8:00 friday morning.
7:10 am
dead if four separate homes. another chilling detail, the survivors, three children, ranging if age from four days old to three years. >> it's heart breaking. i mean, you know the one mom apparently was killed in her bed with the four-day-old right there. >> reporter: authorities say none committed suicide, leading the sheriffs to warn redents that at least one killer is on the loose. >> there is the person or persons out that are armed are very dangerous. >> reporter: so far no suspects and no motives. investigates investigators say the family was targeted. >> we are praying for the family. we are trying to lift up the family. we will do everything we can to lift up them. >> reporter: ohio governor john kasich is calling the tragic beyond comprehension. >> well, there is eight people dead execution style, what can you say?
7:11 am
seen it coming. so of the victims were in bed, investigators say, suggesting they were shot in the head while they were sleeping. >> never have we lost so many people to a murderer or murders in this county, never eight people at one time. >> reporter: authorities say the killer or killers can be orlando and dangerous. they do not believe there is a larger threat to this commune. instead, they are offering protection to members of the family who again they believe to be the intended target. >> this is an awful story. gabe. thank you. to politics now, where both donald trump and hillary clinton are hoping to land knockout blows on their opponents on tuesday. five states will vote. both front runners are hoping for clean sweeps w. refollowing both sides, let's begin with halle jackson. good morning. >> reporter: hi, chanel. good morning. this morning, a handsful of donald trump fans are lining up to see him speak if bridgeport,

primaries, looking for a knockout. now, calling on his rivals to drop out. if front of a fired up crowd, donald trump caught up and tripped up. >> we want south carolina. and we want new hampshire -- and we want connecticut. >> reporter: not connecticut, not today at least. if he wins the majority of the delegates there, his task getseseier. he will need to win half of the coming delegates to lock up the nomination. >> there is no path for victory for cruz, he should get out. they should both get out. they should. >> reporter: trump plans to focus on foreign policy. while he told "for kunis" magazine he's not going to rebrand. his top adviser acknowledges the party insiders, trump can take on a different persona privately than the one privately there
7:13 am
that all of this is just a show. >> that he doesn't believe anything he is saying. he is telling us he is lying to us. >> reporter: ted cruz taking aim in pennsylvania. he focussed to kick off delegates. john kasich focusing more on rhode island and connecticut. both getting back up from the stop trump movement. on defense now, after pitting out new york. >> as we move out west, we move where the numbers are as strong for the movement. >> that doesn't mean we will ignore the northeast atlantic. >> he will focus on indiana, a new poll shows cruz in striking dance of strump u trump. game on in the hoosier states t. cruz campaign tells us they expect to pick up 40 delegates in indiana. the next big battleground state for the gop, but the republican national committee through all of this staying on the side line, reince priebus telling member, politics is a team

rally around the eventual nominee. >> thank you. let's turn to the democrats now. bernie sander's along shot bid for his party's nominee might become more difficult after this tuesday's primaries. kelly o'donnell is following the democrats. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning, craig. in this final turn towards tuesday's five-state ground, there is a lot of ground to cover. hillary clinton will stop here in central falls high school and bernie sanders holds rallies in maryland and delaware. sanders says the race is not over yet, while clinton is showing signs she is looking towards november. >> reporter: in scranton, hillary clinton added an upbeat campaign. she played up some pennsylvania nostalgia. >> so this place has a lot of not just memories, but special meanings to me. >> reporter: clinton goes into

in pennsylvania. >> i will work my heart out for the people here in northeastern pennsylvania. >> reporter: while she took her usual jab at bernie sanders, clinton hits gop front runner donald trump as out of touch. >> he needs to get out of those towers and actually come down and talk with people and listen to them. >> reporter: tuesday has somerset built-in advantages for:these states hold primaries, not caucusings, where sanders has often one. they allow only democrats to participate. sanders draws big support from independents. >> let's make sure pennsylvania has the largest voter turnout in the history of the democratic party. >> reporter: also in pennsylvania, joe biden's birthplace, sanders hit clinton by the vice president's interview with the "new york times." >> don't take mr. sanders aspirational approach over mrs.
7:16 am
>> reporter: flampgd by andrea mitchell, sanders qualified his willing ins to campaign for clinton if she wins the nomination. >> we need to find out what her platform is. what the views are that she is going to bring forth. to what degree she will adopt many of the ideas that are extremely popular and i think very sensible. >> reporter: and as the voting comes to states where joe bind has roots, he makes clear he is staying future tral but comments on sanders' style. sanders acknowledges it could be a tough test. but he vows to carry on. >> kelly, thank you. president obama held a town hall in great britain this morning, saying he is proud of his health insurance overhaul and for helping turn the u.s. economy around.
