instead. more weather and traffic on the 4s. now breaking news in afghanistan where an american was one of two people kidnapped. it happened last night near the american university of afghanistan in kabul. a senior official at the university tells nbc news the two victims with an american and australian professor going home after evening glasses. they were abducted by five gunmen wearing military uniforms. there's been no immediate claim of responsibility. breaking news, problems for delta air lines is causing major headaches for passengers around the world. tracie strahan is at newark airport right now. what happened? >> reporter: we saw first hand exactly what's not working upstairs in the terminal. we saw passengers trying to check in on the computer terminals not able to do so. that's causing lines to grow worldwide. many passengers took to twitter in the early morning hours to

systems are down everywhere. hopefully it won't be much longer. we have reached out to the airline to see what is going on. we have yet to hear back. it appears to be a widespread computer outage preventing passengers from checking in and flights from being able to take off. at newark liberty airport it's causing lines to grow. >> they didn't tell us anything. i didn't get an e-mail. it to check me in. usually we get an e-mail telling us something is wrong. we didn't get anything. >> reporter: every passenger we saw trying to use though computer terminals at the delta terminal, you saw that buffering circle that caused a lot of unpleasantries. we even had a man show us his delta app, and that's not

information. >> and they're probably not even writing the paper tickets yet because it's only 4:33 in the morning. >> that's the other problem. it's still early in the morning and a lot of employees are not sure what's going on. >> thank you very much. police in westchester county aring look for the gunman who fired the shot that killed a 79-year-old man. surveillance video showing the moment when manuel ayala was hit by a stray bullet in new rochelle. he's the man in the he was sitting in his usual spot on a milk create on union avenue and 3rd street saturday night when he was hit. that bullet came from across the street. mr. ayala was not the intended target. >> it was a wild shot. lucky shot, came from over there over to here. good 75 feet away. >> he was a nice person. kind. he got along with all the family.

a possible hate crime. it happened saturday night at the 1 train platform at 110th street in morning side heights. police say the victim was on the train with his partner and argued with another rider. when the train reached the station, the suspect made anti-gay slurs, stabbed the man with an unknown object. the victim had puncture wounds to his torso and chest but he's expected to be okay. on staten island, a pro donald trump side burned down outside a home investigators are trying to figure out if this was done on purpose. sam pirozzolo woke up to his giant "t" sign in flames this was about 1:00 a.m. yesterday. the fire is under investigation as suspicious. pirozzolo said he has built displays in the past, he said a bigger and better trump display will go up this week. >> i'm like, my god, my sign is burning. tuesday we're putting up a

75 in jackson heights. 77 in dyker heights. the ac is humming in all of these homes. 74 in chelsea. 71 now in staten island. warm start for you, but not muggy. when we look at the dew points, in the 50s. that's comfortable. that's a nice thing to have as we head into august. look at the satellite and radar, quiet around the i low pressure off to the south. you can see this band of clouds to the south of new york city. that's where that will stay throughout the day. monmouth county and ocean county, clouds will linger for you there. clouds throughout the day. dry through the evening. temperatures in the 80s, near 90 at some spots, but not humid. so it's a pleasant heat.

and the gowanus. here's what it looks like out by the prospect expressway. the gowanus not moving along too nicely. all lanes are quloezed down eastbound on the bqe between hamilton and atlantic avenue with an overturned truck out there. in addition to that, you can see delays in this area. the east tube of the hugh l.carey tunnel is closed. you will sit through this to get otherwise, just road work out there. fdr drive shut down, this will be shut down until 6:00 a.m., between 96th street and 61st. head over to the west side highway or local streets to get around this. not seeing major delays out there because of this. alternate side of the street parking rules are in effect. we'll have more weather and traffic on the 4s. police are looking for the shooter who opened fire on a brooklyn sidewalk. according to investigators, the man in this video shot two men

morning near the corner of marcus garvey boulevard and monroe street in bedford-stuyvesant. the victims were critically wounded. friends and family held a benefit concert for a teen who lost his leg in an explosion at central park. the family did not allow cameras to record him. golden was visiting central park for the 4th of july holiday when he stepped on a hom made explosive. his d strength since being released from the hospital. >> his strength and composure and positivity through this is just amazing to me. so he's helping me. he's helping me get through this as well. >> police are still investigating how that explosive ended up in central park. demonstrators are back on the streets of chicago protesting the fatal police shooting of an african-american teenager. the city has released nine dash

handcuffing that suspected car thief last month. none of this footage shows the moment that 18-year-old paul o'neill was fatally shot in the back. the officer involved turned on his camera after the shooting. an investigation is underway. a fast-moving wildfire is burning through over 1,000 acres in southern california. these intense flames are from the pilot fire burning in the san bernardino national forest. hundreds of firefighters are several air tankers. a number of evacuations are underway. the fire started on friday but no word on what sparked it. there are no reports of injuries. walt disney world taking steps to prevent another tragedy at their florida resort. workers are putting up rock barriers on beaches at the seven seas lagoon in orlando. the plan was put into effect after a 2-year-old boy was snatched away by an alligator earlier this year. that rock wall will replace rope

october. an investigation is underway into the death of a young boy on the tallest water slide in the world. caleb schwab, the 10-year-old son of a kansas state lawmaker died yesterday while riding the ride at schlitterbahn water park in kansas city. the slide is more than 17 stories tall and sends riders down in rafts three at a time. officials have to the released details about the boy's death. the park w today as the investigation continues. an autopsy will be performed to find out while an athlete died while competing on long island. lifeguards said they noticed 69-year-old vincent flex in distress as he was swimming in narrows bay. he was taking part yesterday in a triathlon. mr. flex died later at the hospital. he was mount kisco in westchester. still to come, good news for
