>> that's right. i hear them barking already. this is the time of the year when the heat and humidity tends to rule, and it's about to kick in in the next 24 hours. we're going to have this oppressive humidity with us through the weekend into early next week before we see any relief. heat and thunderstorms will build starting on wednesday, so it's not just the heat and humidity, but we'll also have heavy downpours in the area as well. it's going to feel like that south florida heat, that tropical heat that's kind of smothering. that's what it's goingo between 95 and 100 degrees. it's nice out there right now, mainly in the 60s from ramsey to wayne. 71 in jamaica and 65 in muttontown. look at the ocean temperature off of sandy hook. it's almost 80 degrees. i guess that warm-up here in the ocean, we start to keep an eye out for any tropical development. we don't see any now, but there's plenty of tropical moisture to our south that's been sitting along the gulf coast, spinning here and
12:22 am
eventually the winds will shift here and tap into that tropical moisture, and that's why we're expecting the big change. for tonight, it's clear, mild, down to 73 in the city with 60s in the suburbs. tomorrow warms up a little bit more. we're up to 88 degrees. today we were in the mid-80s -- or yesterday actually. so the heat starts to climb tomorrow. now, it won't be quite as oppressive yet, but we'll start to feel the difference in the humidity levels for sure. 9 just about everywhere, evening at the jersey shore and long island, you'll still be in the 80s as well. here's a look at the shore cast for tomorrow. if you want some relief, that's the place to go. ocean waves 2 to 3 feet. watch out for rip currents along the shore area. no storms tomorrow. the weather looks really, really nice. but we'll see the thunderstorms starting to build across the area on wednesday. they'll be on and off. they'll be spotsty. not everyone will get rain at
12:23 am
so that's going to continue through the week, even into the weekend. we'll have that pattern, that typical summer pattern, and then the 90s hit us, feeling like 100 over the weekend. just oppressive. and the relief comes on tuesday. we've got to wait that long to get it. >> all the way down to 81. >> exactly, that will be nice.
