. right now an overnight fire rips through a home and takes two lives in new jersey. we're on the scene. oscar, what do you have to say about the charges? >> plus, a man charged in the murders of two local religious leaders prepares to judge. and the new jersey olympian who has yet another reason to be all smiles. the heat and humidity comes back up a little bit today. it backed down briefly today. but still a hot one. we have the heat advisory northeast sections of new jersey, down the coastline and the five boroughs including the city of course. feels-like temperatures could reach mid and upper 90s. the bigger picture shows, more significant line of showers to the west. eval and this evening. look for another hazy warm humid day. high temperature close to the 90-degree mark. >> say good morning to lauren scala. good morning everyone. you can see all green on the maps. we do have accidents on the roads this morning. glenn glen cove road and -- you can see minor delays through

ilt, that shuts down two lanes. there's a vehicle fire there. more weather and traffic on the 4s. thanks, so much lauren. it's 4:32 right now. the man who police say killed a local iman is preparing to face a judge. oscar more he will was charged last night. katherine creag is in queens with more. >> reporter: good morning to you, darlene. you saw in the video the suspect led out of the station house. we expect to see him at the courthouses later today when he will face a judge for arraignment. according to the nypd, they have bags of evidence linking the suspect to two crimes, a hit and run and also a double murder. oscar more rel is the suspect. security cameras captured video of his suv striking a bicyclist. that took place moments after an

and killed saturday afternoon. detectives, we are told, traced back the suspect's suv and license plate to his home on miller avenue in east new york. that's where they cornered him. police say they tried to get away. detectives from the fugitive task force approached the car and he rammed the detective's car several times in an effort to get away. he was placed under arrest without further >> reporter: sources say they recovered a weapon they believe it's the same one used in the murder of the imam and the imam's sis tachblt a huge prayer service yesterday. so many mourning the loss. something else recovered by investigators, clothing that matches what was seen on the suspect who killed the imam and his assistant. back to you, darlene. katherine creag, thank you.

investigators on the scene of a fatal fire in belmar. that fire breaking out about 9:30 last night. flames swept flew the two-story house. several fire departments were called to the scene. two men were found dead along with a dog. it's not clear if they were trapped in the flames or died trying to get out. today in massachusetts, vanessa marcotte will be laid to rest. she's the google account manager from new york city who was murdered while jogging. her body was found a week home. she put up a struggle with her killer. so far, no arrests have been made. now to the floods in southern louisiana. a seventh body was pulled from -- the rain may have stopped but search and rescue operations do continue. some areas got more than two feet of rain in 48 hours creating some of the worst flooding the state has seen. in ascension parish south of

be competing at the olympics. it also reads, dream big. >> super nice. allyson felix made u.s. olympic history running in the 400 meters and barely edged out by miller from the bahamas. she dove over the finish line. felix was trying for a record breaking fifth gold medal. with the silver, she's the most decorated woman in track and field history ahead of jackie joyner-kersee. the bronze in the olympic 3,000 meter steeplechase and became the first u.s. woman to win since that debuted in beijing. >> the updated medal count. the u.s. continuing to dominate. 74 medals over all. the most gold, silver and bronze of any country. followed by china and great

highlights. newark star boxer returning to the ring and also beach volleyball showdown there. you can read up on the highlights all ahead. the mother of a u.s. volleyball player had her suitcase and everything in it blown up in rio. cindy lloyd said she was running late to see her daughter's match. she dropped the suitcase off at the cruise ship but was left unattended. norwegian cruise line apologized and will reimburse her for everything that was lost. >> they don't want to take any chances. still to come, more information about the olympians who were robbed in rio. why some believe the athletes were set up. monkey on the loose. one walmart worker's parking lot run-in and where that animal came from. >> a monkey there. we're going to have weather and traffic on the 4s.

out east, temperatures in the 70s. generally in the 70s as well. dew point is an indication of the comfort level. when we have dew points in the mid-70s, that's tropical to marginally awful feeling out there. as we go into the evening hours, look what happens. goes to 77 by 9:00. very, very uncomfortable from later on this afternoon i with a front approaching, a good chance of seeing showers and thunderstorms. look what happens to the dew point tomorrow. by 4:00. it's in the upper 50s. that falls back into the ice category. we get a break for the middle and end of this week. early on this morning, couple of lighter showers. most dying out. lower end much brooklyn, that's moving east along the south shore of nassau county. few lighter showers off ocean county. that's the warm front sitting

that's going to get on through. future tracker shows a break of clouds. if the clouds hang tougher, we don't get 90. see an early round of showers and thunderstorms between 3:00 and 5:00. the significant line comes in between 7:00 and 9:00. that could contain potentially severe thunderstorms and still another round overnight to midnight or so. then it starts to dry out. a fair amount of clouds early across the hudson valley, mid to upper 80s across most of long island. by tomorrow, the showers and thunderstorms threat is out of here. temperatures warm in the upper 80s. it doesn't cool off. not a strong cold front other than lowering the humidity for thursday and friday. still upper 80s to near 90. the return of afternoon showers

the return of lauren scala. >> let's talk about the roadwork out there. there's plenty of it. we'll start with route 17, which is shut down southbound between midland avenue and the garden state parkway. not a delay yet. i'll let you know if one grows. the cross bronx expressway, it is a slow ride eastbound. construction by eastbound and westbound by westchester avenue. that one seems to be moving better. all lanes are shut down until 5:00 a.m. between 95th and bypass this. heading to long island, sunrise highway closed between deer park avenue and -- you can see a slow ride through here alternate side of the street parking rules in effect. the next weather and traffic update on the 4s. >> lauren, thank you very much. angry queens residents say they'll protest every night until they open a homeless

demonstration in mass tess. they argued with a commissioner in town hall. the city is promising around the clock security. residents insist the location is wrong for a shelter. >> where do they go during the day? >> my elementary school is located around the corner. >> they want to put 200 people with no jobs or nowhere to go sitting here all day. >> the homeless shelter is needed there. officials are wli consider alternative locations within the community. they will remember a staten island teen who took his own life. another wake is scheduled for daniel fitzpatrick. according to a letter he left behind, the 7th grader hanged himself because of bullying at his school. his family claims holy angels catholic academy did not do enough to stop classmates from picking on him. >> beautiful, kind, compassionate young man.

we don't want any other families to have to go through this. >> school officials insist they did everything in their power to stop the harassment. >> they hosted a bullying prevention training program and suspended certain students. fitzpatrick's funeral is set for tomorrow. today is the funeral for an elderly woman who died during a police demonstration. mary noll ton was participating in a seminar where civilians learn more abo officers do their job. a police officer accidentally shot and killed her during a shoot, don't shoot demonstration. the gun used in that demonstration was not supposed to be loaded. after two nights of unrest in milwaukee, it was calmer last night. police say they made six arrests after some heated confrontations. there was also a 10:00 p.m. curfew for those under the age 18. the mayor is calling for the release of a body camera.

traffic stop and raising a gun. a police officer fires two fatal shots. another legal setback for bill cosby's defense team. an appeals court rejected the attempt to reseal testimony that cosby gave back in 2005 about having extramarital affairs and getting quaaludes to give to woman. court ruled documents are now public knowledge and that can't be nearly 9,000 firefighters are battling eight large wildfires burning across california. overnight, police arrested and charged one man for arson. they say he's responsible for the clayton fire which caused over $10 million in damages and destroyed more than 175 homes in clear lake. the suspect is charged in connection with several fires over the last year. also, we're finding out that an american tourist is among the dead from a powerful earthquake in peru.

in a hotel and it fell on top of him essentially. the 5.4 tremor struck sunday. four people were killed. many lived in an adobe i home that crumbled around them. former police chief in rio de janeiro says the armed robbery of swimmer ryan lochte and three teammates may have been a setup. the cabbie may have been in on the robbery early sunday with lochte and his teammates. they were riding back to the was pulled over by a group of men posing as police. one of the men put a gun to his head, their wallets and cell phones taken. nobody was hurt. police in ohio looker on the lookout for a monkey spotted in a walmart parking lot. >> apparently the monkey's owner did not want to leave it in a hot car. the monkey had a run-in near the shopping carts before the owner

waving for help. the caller is at the water's edge. >> that went out yesterday in asbury park after the lifeguards ended their shift. a man was in distress. three other people swam out to save him. they ended in trouble also. firefighters and police had to pull everybody out of the water. >> just looked exhausted. he just barely hanging on. >> we got three or four days of weather l heat. >> just down the shore, bradley beach, one swimmer vanished at after the lifeguards were gone. that person is still missing. lots of people in new jersey somerset county can drop their flood insurance now that new protections are in place. we've seen the raritan river inundate communities many times, especially in bound brook. yesterday the state announced the green brook flood control project. it should stop the flooding.
