>> reporter: michael, you can still smell the smoke from this fire hours after it happened. as you mentioned, police still guarding this ohm on the 200 block of 14th avenue. take a look at this destruction. from front to back. this home completely burned. burned from top to bottom. all of this happening around 9:30 last night. let's show you the massive emergency response that came here to try and battle flames that broke out, last night. mayor dougherty from belmar actually says that two men were killed here. he says units from belmar were assist fd from avon, spring lake, wall and neptune. he called all of the firefighters heroes. it took about two hours to get the flames under control. in addition to the two fatalities, there are reports that a dog was killed here as well. as we bring you back live, the cause of the fire, of course, under investigation.

connecticut and mid and upper 70s across long island city. the warm spot at 79 right now. we are at a slight risk for severe thunderstorms. severe storm prediction center puts us here. that's the areas in yellow. any of the thunderstorms that pop up this afternoon could have the potential of a slight chance of reaching severe levels. that means wind gusts could exceed 50, 60 miles an hour in cases. you have to watch it closely. keep a careful eye to the sky. any warnings or issues. 90 the expected high. if we make it to 90 -- first half of the night will be stormy. i think the window really greatest chance from northwest to southeast for storms today, about 2:00, 3:00 in the afternoon for the distant suburbs north and west and 7:00, 8:00 on east. the wind goes more northwest. going to really notice the dew points come down, the humidity drops in the afternoon. may not feel that way early on, but it will get better throughout the day.

watch out for storms. there could be an early delay with this one. most of storms it looks like will be out of here close to game time. might be a delay, though, temperature about 85 to start. upper 80s on thursday. a little stickier in spots. especially further south of the city. for the most part, it stays dry. we're still near 90 again on friday. but the humidity stays fairly low. over the weekend, the humidity creeps back in. that means showers and thunderstorms creep back in through hopefully better by the middle of next week. little after 6:17. let's get the latest on the commute from lauren scala. >> thanks, chris. an accident investigation on truck routes 1 and 9. kai simonsen is live over the scene of the accident. this is by hack en sack avenue. it looks like the truck was traveling southbound and ended up on the northbound side of the road. this is going to be out there for a while. an accident investigation.

the scene of a fire last night. the mayor of belmar matt dougherty says belmar fire officials were assisted by crews from avon, spring lake and wall, as well as neptune and called them all heroes. it did take about two hours to get the flames under control. a short time ago, we spoke to residents who saw it go down. >> it was a lot of smoke and i could see the fire engines put it out. >> the s years ago, a lot of people put a lot of money into rebuilding their homes. it's a shame that this happened. again, this is one of the homes that they gutted and they rebuilt pretty much rebuilt from the ground up. >> reporter: in addition to the fatalities, a dog died inside of the fire as well. police are now at the scene, replaced the fire officials that were here. the monmouth fire marshal will

welcome back. 6:45. weather and traffic time. our headlines. we're back to the heat and humidity today. another steamy one. however, there could be thunderstorms later this afternoon, up like yesterday into the evening hours. some could reach severe levels fl we'll have to keep a careful eye to the sky. improving tomorrow. the hit humid will be the trepd towards the end of the week. heat advisory in effect for nearby counties in northeast new jersey and all of central and southern new jersey for this afternoon. from noon until 10:00, the feels-like temperatures could get into the 90s. close to 100 in some parts of the area. the dew point, that's a good indication of the comfort or discomfort in this case. by 6:00 this evening, the dew point in the city expected to be 78 degrees. that puts it in that awful

tracie thank you. now to katherine creag with the latest on the arrest in i the murders of a queens imam and his assistant. kat. >> reporter: darlene and michael, we expect a courtroom to be packed when the suspect is arraigned later today right here at this courthouse. when he was let out of a police station late last night he didn't say anything to the police say security cameras captured video of that suspect in his suv striking a bicyclist. that took place moments after an imam and his assistant were shot and killed in ozone park queens on saturday. detectives traced back the suv and license plate to his home. they found a lot of evidence we're told and the suspect -- back to you darlene and michael. find out what's going on on
