labeled a persistently dangerous school by the state. there are racial disparities. ps 199 is 15% black and hispanic compared with 84% at ps 191. city school officials say the zones need to be integrated. >> there becomes a perception in the community that one is the good school and one is the school for students of lower socioeconomic status. it's not a good thing for the community and it becomes a self-perpetuat >> reporter: tonight the community will meet to review the city's draft proposal which would move a section of the amsterdam houses into the ps 199 zone to achieve more diversity. >> why can't we just upgrade the schools and make them better? >> reporter: instead of moving the kids around? >> instead of moving the kids around. everybody is white and you're black, so you're feeling kind of awkward in the school.

the prosecutor apologizing to them, saying he wished it had not ended this way. then they came here to court to see 32-year-old jennifer stand before a judge and face murder charges and desecration of a body charges in the death of tarita. this woman dropped her off at a train station back in march, told police that's when she then police found her body in the back of this man's home. they found that body last night. they would not tell us what tipped them off, but neighbors had reported a foul odor coming from the backyard for some weeks. her body had been there since at least the 8th of march when she was reported missing. her family desperate to find her turned out in droves searching all over the neighborhood. she had a long-time friendship with jennifer sweeney, who was

late last night which trapped that child on the top floor. her grandmother had to be pulled out of a window. she suffered burns and the girl's mother along with another family had to jump from the building. they're all being treated at the hospital. in connecticut, police are looking for the gunman who shot two men sitting in a car. two men were parked on noble avenue in bridgeport last night when somebody walked up and opened fire. this happened across the street from the achievement first bridgeport academy and next to washington park. the m drove to the hospital. he survived, but his companion did not. police have no suspects. the urban area security initiative provides tens of millions of dollars to cities to help ward off terror attacks. without that funding, the mayor says new yorkers will be a lot less safe. false reports of shots fired

very comfortable. 88 the high in newark. most locations saw high temperatures below 90 degrees for a change and that was great news today because we certainly have seen our share of sticky, unbearable weather. a little less sticky tonight. hot and muggy conditions return on friday for the weekend. city island, you're at 82 right now. staten island, 84. it's 85 in oceanside and mid 80s in i monticello is at 73. 82 in morristown right now. the dew points are all in the 60s, which is a little bit muggy, a little sticky, but not the 70s, the awful conditions, the tropical feel, we've had over the past couple of weeks. close to 90 in long branch. feels like 90 in trenton, but that's not so bad. here are the high clouds coming

atmosphere. more rain showers back to the south and west. some thunderstorms over west virginia, virginia, headed in our direction. there's also a cold front approaching toronto just passing detroit with some storms. we will see an increase in a chance for some more showers and storms overnight into thursday morning. around 1:00 a.m., we'll see them approaching philadelphia. there won't be that many, but there could be some downpours in the area in and around the city around 7:00 a.m. during the morning commute. after that, it is just a spot shower here and there. the rest of shouldn't be severe. if you're going to the shore for tomorrow, 70s to the low 80s from ocean city to rockaway to bridge hampton. a moderate risk for rip currents and a low risk for lightning. i doubt you'll see very much in the afternoon. by friday, we're up to 90 again. upper 80s to near 90 saturday. we'll feel the humidity on those days. sunday looks pretty dry most of the day, but there'll be some storms on sunday night. then a stretch of fantastic weather monday into friday and
