in the hospital it happened on seymour avenue just after midnight. brian thompson is there with what we know so far. brian? >> reporter: mike, we're only about three blocks from police headquarters in newark. but they have been patrolling this area since the shooting trying to reassure residents they're on top of this. the shooter is still on the loose at this point. there have been six fatal shootings in the cityn little over 72 hours. now, in in particular case it was just after midnight that a gunman opened fire on two people here. according to a neighbor, the two were on the porch of this house waiting for a taxi cab. the man walked into the house and then collapsed dead. the woman apparently shot in the foot. this neighbor says she was pregnant and police have heard the same thing.

of manhattan. a man and woman entered that building through an unlocked side door yesterday morning. they allegedly swiped a computer tablet, a case of vodka and a suitcase full of clothes, then they took the keys to a van. they used the vehicle to make their getaway. it's a 2004 tan-colored honda odyssey. a long island man accused of killing his mother is expected in court this morning. 23-year-old dennis cullen is facing murders charges. he drowned cullen in the pool at her home last week. the prosecutors say that cullen confessed to grabbing her in a head lock and dragging her to the deep end of the family pool during an argument. accused of sexually assaulting two patients. larry jones assaulted both women while they were getting x-rays sunday. it's unclear if there are any other victims. we're told jones had worked at

over the past 72 hours or so, it's certainly not isolated. that's why police were on patrol the past several hours overnight, each putting up a roadblock a couple of blocks from the shooting scene as the gunman was still on the loose. police still investigating the motive. but apparently the victims, that man and the pregnant woman were on the porch of the home. one neighbor describing it this way. >> nine or ten i can't remember. as was coming down the street, i looked down the street and i heard the shots. but you couldn't tell that they was coming in this direction. i saw the young men get up and walk into the house and stumble. he walked into the house and later on you heard he's not breathing, he's not breathing. >> again, investigators say they do not have a motive at this time. that witness saying that apparently the gunman fired from across the street and up on some

"today in new york's" katherine creag is in the high bridge section with that story. >> reporter: kerry, the customers we've been talking with say some of the employees at this gas station, some of the hardst working people you'll meet. they're angry that one of the workers was threatened in this way. the suspect walked up to the victim and hand. he pressed that weapon into the pack of the worker and stole $200 in cash from him. it happened around 9:25 at night. sunday, august 21st. police just released that new surveillance video. the gas station where we are, it's petroleum gas on ogden avenue near west 167th street. the suspect has been described by police as being a little young, 18 to 20 years old, 5'11", 220 pounds. the suspect, again, got away with $200 in cash.
