refreshingly cool. i'm loving it. 62 degrees outside. winds out of northwest at 3 miles per hour. won't be as windy as yesterday. but it will be sunny and beautiful. temperatures in the 60s, 70s. eventually low 80s. feels more like summer. but the humidity stays low and just a great day for anything outside. the humidity will rise again. we'll look at that in the ten-day forecast. lauren scala is here with a look at your commute. >> sounds like a dramatic weather film. construction is causing delays on the grand central parkway. there it is. just as you make your way past laguardia airport in the westbound lanes, nothing is really moving right now. the bqe ramp is shut down. something to keep in mind. heading over to the alexander hamilton bridge, smooth sailing on the cross bronx expressway. two lanes are blocked by webster avenue. delays are minor through there. we'll have more weather and

in the hospital it happened on seymour avenue just after midnight. brian thompson is there with what we know so far. brian? >> reporter: mike, we're only about three blocks from police headquarters in newark. but they have been patrolling this area since the shooting trying to reassure residents they're on top of this. the shooter is still on the loose at this point. there have been six fatal shootings in the cityn little over 72 hours. now, in in particular case it was just after midnight that a gunman opened fire on two people here. according to a neighbor, the two were on the porch of this house waiting for a taxi cab. the man walked into the house and then collapsed dead. the woman apparently shot in the foot. this neighbor says she was pregnant and police have heard the same thing.

the hospital just a few minutes later. there is no motive at this point for police. president gunman apparently a little bit more than across the street according to this neighbor. they're still investigating all of this at this point. as for the other five killings that we've had in the city in a little over 72 hours, it came on a weekend when the mayor declared 24 hours of nonviolence. friday night, one saturday night, one night into monday morning and now monday night into tuesday morning. back to you, michael. >> obviously, they're concerned about all of that. thank you very much, brian. it's 5:02. a new look at a man wanted for air sex attack. fresh video of the suspect is just into the newsroom. this shows the map who struck back in april. that's when he tried to rape a

"today in new york's" katherine creag is in a hybrid section now with more. >> reporter: we talked with a co-worker of the victim who says it's always a concern about their safety. they're worried about who will come up to the gas s but they have to work and that's why they're there. that's what one worker was doing on sunday when a young man walked up to him, threatened him and pressed a knife against that worker's back. happened at 9:25 at night. sunday, august 21st. the gas station where we're at, petroleum gas on ogden avenue here in the bronx, the suspect is described as quite young, 18

that suspect got away with $200 cash. he grabbed it from the victim's hands. a co-worker says this about being concerned about all of their safety. >> have you ever had an experience like this? have you ever been robbed? >> all the time. >> reporter: the victim who is 48 years old, he happens to have the day off today, kerry. but he was actually at work yesterday, just one day after g robbed. actually, according to workers, he might swing over later to talk about what happened. police in bridgeport are hearing about -- officers are increasing patrols in the neighborhood where gunmen opened fire on a crowd of party-goers. most of the injuries are not life-threatening, excepts for a victim shot in the face and in critical condition.

"today in new york's" brian thompson is reporting that this was the latest in a string of shootings that started during 24 hours that were supposed to be

>> reporter: indeed it was, michael. this is a brute tull scene that happened after midnight. over the past 72 hours or so, it is not isolated. that's why police were on patrol. these past several hours really. even putting up this roadblock just a few blocks away as the gunman is still on the loose. police are still investigating the motive here. apparently, the victim is a man who died who had nonlife-threatening injuries were on the porch. one neighbor described it this way. >> i was coming down the street. i looked down the street and i just heard the shout. but you couldn't tell they was coming in this direction. i saw the young man get up, walk into the house and stumbling and walking into the house.

>> the fire started in an apartment yesterday. it trapped a mother and four young children inside a bathroom on the second floor. 12-year-old jaylen holloway jumped to the ground. it's 15 feet. she found an officer to help. before he could get a ladder, the entire family began jumping. >> trying to explain to the little girl in the window that a ladder was on the way, don't jump. i looked at the people who were getting the ladder, then looked up in the air and she was jumping already. caught two children and a one-month-old infant tossed from the window. amazingly everybody escaped without injury. cause of the fire is unknown. but it was a close call for that family. fortunately, jaylen and the officer were there to make the difference. >> indeed. it is 5:34. time for weather and traffic on the 4s. hello, raphi. >> good morning. it's a beautiful morning again. temperatures nice and cool. cooler than yesterday. in fact, it's the coolest morning in months in the city. especially north and west of town.

of manhattan. a man and woman entered that building through an unlocked side door yesterday morning. they allegedly swiped a computer tablet, a case of vodka and a suitcase full of clothes, then they took the keys to a van. they used the vehicle to make their getaway. it's a 2004 tan-colored honda odyssey. a long island man accused of killing his mother is expected in court this morning. 23-year-old dennis cullen is facing murders charges. he drowned cullen in the pool at her home last week. the prosecutors say that cullen confessed to grabbing her in a head lock and dragging her to the deep end of the family pool during an argument. accused of sexually assaulting two patients. larry jones assaulted both women while they were getting x-rays sunday. it's unclear if there are any other victims. we're told jones had worked at

over the past 72 hours or so, it's certainly not isolated. that's why police were on patrol the past several hours overnight, each putting up a roadblock a couple of blocks from the shooting scene as the gunman was still on the loose. police still investigating the motive. but apparently the victims, that man and the pregnant woman were on the porch of the home. one neighbor describing it this way. >> nine or ten i can't remember. as was coming down the street, i looked down the street and i heard the shots. but you couldn't tell that they was coming in this direction. i saw the young men get up and walk into the house and stumble. he walked into the house and later on you heard he's not breathing, he's not breathing. >> again, investigators say they do not have a motive at this time. that witness saying that apparently the gunman fired from across the street and up on some

showing the scary moments when a bold thief with a knife attacked. he walked up to a gas station employee in the bronx. you can actually see the knife in his hand. "today in new york's" katherine creag is in the high bridge section with that story. >> reporter: kerry, the customers we've been talking with say some of the employees at this gas station, some of the hardst working people you'll meet. they're angry that one of the workers was threatened in this way. the suspect walked up to the victim and hand. he pressed that weapon into the pack of the worker and stole $200 in cash from him. it happened around 9:25 at night. sunday, august 21st. police just released that new surveillance video. the gas station where we are, it's petroleum gas on ogden avenue near west 167th street. the suspect has been described by police as being a little young, 18 to 20 years old, 5'11", 220 pounds. the suspect, again, got away with $200 in cash.

welcome back. 6:44. the first phase of a multimillion dollar project to improve service on the long island railroad is apparently right on track. crews have completed a new track on the ronkonkoma branch between central islip and ronkonkoma. work on the final phase is under check as a matter of fact on that progress yesterday. they'll take until 2018 to complete all of the work. the mta says when it is finished that extra track improve delays and make it possible for an extra train or two to run every hour. time is now 6:44. time for a check of your forecast. great news there. great news in terms of the weather as well. you can see, we have another beauty of a day ahead.

you can see the hazards are on there. it's causing a bit of a backup just past laguardia airport. heading over to the queensboro bridge, things are moving nicely there on both levels and if both directions. midtown tunnel is also in good shape. heading over to the lincoln tunnel, it's about a 20-minute ride between the turnpike and tolls here on 495. at the holland tunnel, about 20 minutes as well. at the george washington bridge, about ten minutes into the tolls. you do need to move your car today. alternate side of the street parking rus there's an investigation in north carolina. authorities say a state trooper killed a deaf man after a traffic stop last week. according to the highway patrol, daniel kevin harris refused to pull over on an interstate in charlotte on thursday. troopers caught up with him in a neighborhood. investigators say there was an encounter and harris was killed. some witnesses say harris lunged at the trooper. other criticized the handling of

saying that harris was clearly physically impaired and that the situation should have been handled differently. the florida fish and wildlife conservation commission released the final report on the deadly alligator attack at disney world. 2-year-old lane graves was building sand castles when he was snatched from the edge of a lagoon by a 7-foot alligator. it also says that lane's dad reached into the gator's mouth in an attempt to free his son's head as a predatory attack and finds that the alligator may have lost its fear of humans. an ailing bronx veteran is asking for one thing. to return his service dog, no questions asked. surveillance video shows john tying up his pet outside of a wakefield supermarket. two minutes later, someone takes his pet. navarro is diabetic. his dog is specially trained to

police investigating a double deadly shooting in newark. one man is dead and a pregnant woman was hurt. we believe killed at this point as well. >> "today in new york's" brian thompson has new details near the scene, brian. >> reporter: a 25-year-old man is dead. the 23-year-old female companion was wounded but her injuries are nonlife-threatening. this comes as there's been six, six murders over t hours or so here in newark. the police have their hands full as does the prosecutor in the ex county. at this point, there is no motive. no suspect. but investigators certainly are looking at trying to find who did this shooting. back to you. >> all right, brian, thank you. move moving to the bronx where a bold thief was caught on camera using a knife to hold up a gas
