pluto, volcanos >> on air, online, wherever you are, "wncn today" starts now. >> all right, good morning, you made it to friday and we're so glad that you're with us for "wncn today", i'm mike gonzalez. >> at first i didn't quite believe it, i thought it was thursday, thanks for reminding me. i'm stefan chase, your morning news on traffic first. we've got kristin ketchell in for alyssa, good morning. good morning, mike and stefan, good morning everyone, it's friday, off to a dry start in the area. that will change this afternoon, you don't need the umbrella this morning, but you need it later today. nothing popping up on the radar currently but if we zoom things out, you will notice some wet weather pushing in from the southwest, that's going to make it in to the area after lunch time, providing us with steady rains, some of which may be on the heavier side at times in to early this evening.

robert kennerley at a home on huntly drive last night. wncn's emma wright joins us now live with an update, emma, we inside, pretty disturbing. >> reporter: police found two young kids in that home where the two allegedly made meth. neighbors tell us the area where this happens is normally a family oriented community and they say it's not something they want to see in the area. police spent much of the night investigating raleigh police said they got a search warrant for 3217 huntly drive, that's when they found it inside. godshall and kennerley facing several charges, including meth. list say those -- police say those two kids, 1 and 7, were taken to the hospital as a neighbors say they were renting the house and just moved in. >> the house had been vacant for some while, and i know the people beside it, i thought they bought the home, they were

did, and i don't know who lived in it. we don't want it in our neighborhood, if i seen it, i'd call the police in a heartbeat. >> reporter: police say this is an ongoing investigation, they hope to release more information later today. as for godshall and kennerley, they are both expected in court later this afternoon. reporting live from the raleigh police department, i'm emma wright, wncn news. >> all right, emma, thanks a lot. right now the search is on for a person who ran the durham police cruiser than ran off, at 5:30 last night at the intersection of university drive and vickers avenue. the car was stolen and the driver not stopping for police, he hit the police car with an officer inside, not seriously hurt though. happening now, a durham man facing charges after firing shots at an officer during a foot chase saturday night. siren townsend was arrest and burlington last night by u.s. marshals, he faces attempted murder, assault with a deadly

weather pushing in from the southwest. this will move in to the area later today, some of the deeper colors, some of those yellow, some of those oranges, that is some of the heavier rain which we may see this afternoon in to early this evening. starting off, a 38 in raleigh, in durham, 38 degrees in fayetteville, cooler in the sand hills this morning with temperatures in the 20s and low 30s, warmer in the triangle. so expect temperatures at the bus stop for the kids, in the 30s, 39 degrees mostly cloudy skies this morning, but this afternoon, they will need that umbrella. 52 with steady rain likely this afternoon, and in to this evening. so for planning your day today, expect some showers to arrive by lunch time. the heavier stuff hold off until later this afternoon and this evening. that steady rain moving in at 3:00 p.m., temperature at 50 degrees falling to 48 with more lane on the way as -- more rain on the way as we head through this evening. we dry out in time for the weekend, but there is the possibility of some rain and

accused of shooting his mother in the head. he walked in to the salon on ireland avenue yesterday and shot her. at last check she was in critical condition at unc hospital. students won't be able to take those hoverboards in to any dorms on the thrks c state university campus -- nc state university campus, the latest to ban with duke, and north carolina central. we've been reporting the problems that sparked the hoverboards for months, including fires started by defective batteries. local hospitals say they're seeing their share of injuries too, wake med treating more than a dozen people. and rex and unc having a bunch of patient as well. those things are dangerous, no matter how you utilize them. southern durham will vacate multiple wins because of an ineligible player. the district announced the move on thursday and that means the school has to forfeit the last regular season game and four playoff wins, district says a member of the team was playing

dps is investigating. johnston county may soon be home to a major infrastructure project that will impact the entire raleigh community. train company csx wants to develop a major intermodel terminal between selma and micro. it can change the way things we use everyday get delivered to stores. the new carolina connector would be east of sellman, the intermodel hub would connect trains and tracks. csx's construction is contingent on securing a $100 million worth of loan and fund for eth jobs expect tobd created, the -- to be created, also to land owners to secure the property they would need. new this morning, chinese appliance maker buying for $5.4 billion, ge has been running an auction for the business since federal regulators blocked a deal with a swedish company back

the move comes as the company shifts to focus on high tech products. and first time jobless claims spiked by 7,000 last week, but analysts say don't be alarmed. part of the numbers likely attributed to retailers letting go of seasonal workers after the holiday season. it was a blue christmas for best buy as far as sales go. the big box retailer says its holiday sales fell 1%. best buy blamed the drop on a lower demand for mobile phones and other consumer electronics. sears is planning to close more stores. the company won't give an exact number but says it will be a very small percentage. most of the closures will actually be k mart stores. right now sears owns 925 k marts and 735 sears. they say the closings come as more people opt to shop online. the top rated fast food chains and casual dining restaurants in the u.s. are out. subway is still the king.

showers moving in but the best chance hold off in the afternoon with some of that heavier stuff between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. this evening. that high temperature up to 52 degrees. this area of low pressure moving in from the gulf of mexico down to the southwest here and that's going to bring us the afternoon lane rains -- rains, some of which is on the heavier side but it moves in and out quickly. out of here by tomorrow, we dry out in to our saturday, partly cloudy, very warm for tomorrow with high temperatures pushing 60 degrees for many of us. a cold front does come in to the area on sunday, and that's going to bring us a chance for a few isolated showers, maybe a few wet snowflakes mixing in with showers. we'll keep you updated for that, but the pattern warm for seeing significant snow. a few flakes not out of the question for sunday. your futurecast here showing clouds increasing and rain arriving after lunch time. some of the heavier stuff unfortunately just in time for that evening commute. keep that in mind. you'll want to take it slow later.

we dry out by tomorrow, we are sunny and we are warm to start the weekend. looking at a high of 52 in raleigh, 51 in durham, 58 degrees in fayetteville today, tonight our rain comes to an end. mostly cloudy skies, the low temperature of 50 degrees as we head in to your saturday, we've got more sunshine on the forecast, partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies, cooler on suns for a chance -- sunday for a chance of sprinkles and much colder as we start next week. 36 degrees monday and tuesday with temperatures tuesday morning in the teens. colder weather coming in but here's the good news, if there is any, your morning commute's dry. nothing popping up in the way of major traffic incidents, here's a live look at i-40 and miami boulevard, you can see traffic moving smoothly in both directions there. if we switch things on over to your traffic, you know wun instant to tell you about -- one instant to tell you about, creedmore at strickland, avoid the area, watch for delays.
